Not yet, but he will be

My only question mark is his engine. Will have a good look today. Needs to play more midfield instaed of small forward.

Different types yes.. But there's only 18 on field positions, and as much as I like Lucas's speed, I get he feeling he won't provide a whole lot more in the medium/longer term that you can't get from a Buckley. In hindsight i reckon you could got what he brings (as first round pick) from a 3rd round FS... Still that doesn't mean he won't improve, and nor am I suggesting he's not contributing or that he should not be persisted with..

Reckon Curnow needs to have a specific match up. Can do a great tagging job, but his disposal is atrocious.
I wouldn't drop Simmo, but really hopes he has a shave (he improved a bit with the trim).

Betts in certainly, probably AJ out.
Wait and see what happens in the 2s, but wouldn't be shocked to see either Curnow or White dropped, as it seems like Mick wants to rotate the list.

He plays mid in the VFL, is a penetrating kick and hard at it. Question is whether his stature can sustain that role

Is Betts ok to resume this week?

I believe he is. Was close this week but given the long flight to Perth easy decision to give another week.

Betts obviously comes straight in if fit. Ellard is the other player that I think could be in the mix (especially if he has a good VFL game today) and I'm sure there will be a Hammer vs Casboult discussion at match committee (but I tend to think Hammer is likely to be safe for another week).

AJ stands out as the one most likely to make way for Betts/Ellard, but it's "horses for courses" and depends on match ups etc. If there's a specific job for him, he might hang on. Other players that could potentially be rotated out of the side for Betts and/or Ellard are - Curnow (did the job asked of him last night, but I doubt he will play every week), White (see Curnow) and Lucas (has improved significantly, but still needs to work on a few things).

So you think Buckley will have the size to be a centre square player?

Lucas squibbs it occasionally (10:25 left in the first qtr) but he is clearly better than Buckley overhead. That is one of his strengths. He has the size to be a centre square player if he keeps his head over the ball. Buckley can't play in the middle with is size.

Doesn't have the size at present, that's the main uncertainty.. But then again Kade Simpson wasn't a whole lot larger when he was at his best..

Early line up:

B: Simpson Jamison Tuohy
HB: Walker White Gibbs

C: Scotland McLean Yarran
Foll: Warnock Robinson Murphy

HF: Garlett Henderson Judd
F: Betts Rowe Casboult/Hampson

Int: Carrazzo Ellard Lucas Armfield

Think Betts will be back. The three amigos will run riot rotating between wing/hf/fp.
Warnock to dominate
Jamison on Walker.
White at CHB on Jenkins to hopefully release Henderson forward.
Judd forward and on ball
Ellard for Curnow. Curnow great defensive job last night but with ball aweful.
SPEED & FLEXIBILITY
Great midfield rotation which will run Crows ragged
Prefer Casboult over Hampson but probably wont happen
Armfield on Dangerfield
Will MM pick another kid this week?

Others pushing for a spot. Buckley, McCarthy, Menzel, Bootsma, Bell. Today's NB's game will be interesting!

I expect us too win and win well.

I think Curnow helps us in a lot of ways. He tightens us up at the stoppages. He gets to loads of stoppages and he runs hard on the defensive spread. More defensive than other players we normally throw in tight. Also gives us a chance to release players into more outside running roles rather than wasting their talents making them do grunt work. Downside is when he gets the ball in space it usually gets wasted.
I'd keep him in and hope and pray that he gets better with the ball. If Ellard can match his inside work and running he can take his spot.

Hampson was really good early on last night .
Curnow who I am not a fan of played his best game i think
Nothing wrong with Lucas
White was handy

Betts for AJ

Gibbs still plays his best acccross HB
And walker has been terrific down back
Rowe keeps getting better but needs to kick them when he has his chance

I don't see who takes Dangerfield and Thompson. Either from a run-with perspective, or letting them go head to head against Judd and Murphy.

We keep them quiet, we win.

I am a big Bell fan but this obsession to drop Lucas surprises me. He has been the most improved player on the list so far this year and what's more he is hitting teams on the scoreboard. He also gives us some genuine run and carry ability.

Lucas was better than Simmo last night.

I wouldn't drop either, Eddie is probably the only inclusion unless someone has a blinder for the northern blues.

Lucas won't be dropped so forget about it.

AJ out will probably be the only change.
