What a difference it makes when we have 18 "defenders" on the ground at the one time.

Our speed at half forward killed them (Yarran Garlett and Army)

Jamo / Hendo ... very solid performances

Well thought out from our coaches ... curbed Hurn and Gaff.

Very pleased for the players.

Need to back it up next week.

Was out tonight and didnt see the game. From what i can gather we got murdered by the umpires again.
Cant wait to see the replay.
Go Blues.

Nah, we got murdered in 2006.

In 2011 we got raped with aggravated GBH.

Tonight was just your garden variety indecent assault.

I don't think it was THAT bad. We got a few shockers. But I didn't think it was particularly worse than any other week. I do try to judge the umpires from a neutral point of view because all supporters always think they get reamed by the umpires. Not sure many will agree with me though

but i dont know if that means they still were not utterly shite tonight

umpiring has been terrible all year

Great team effort tonight, more like what we'd expect to see from a Malthouse-coached side. Hopefully they can build on this and improve their consistency even further.

Special shout-out to the WA Blues, would've been a most satisfying experience to be sure, and good work in drowning out the BOOOOOOOOOOOOs

In reference to Verb's domestic arrangements in another post today, I did not move from the one position on the coach for the whole game. Sole reason why we won!

I switched from wearing my Simmo guernsey to wearing my brother's Juddy jumper. Think my Simmo jumper might start gathering dust in the cupboard... sad cause it's served me well over the years.

Good win. Impressed by MM's reaction to the win too. I'm sure he was massively relieved, but he really kept a lid on it and I'm sure he's talking to the boys about next week already....

Lucas will be a seriously good player if he gets some mongrel about him

I havent yet seen the game and I agree with this SO much lol. He has shown the same thing in each game he has played this year - good skills, flashes of really good skills, and soft as hell when it comes time to tackle.

Needs to focus on his 'teamwork' skills i.e. tackling, blocking, getting the occasional contested possie.

Jamo/Hendo were excellent again. No key forward has kicked more than 3 on us this year.

Not bad considering we've come up against JRoo, Cloke, Hawkins, JJK and Darling.

Until tonight it's been the Mid/Smalls that have cut us up.

Off the top of my head I reckon they have only had about 5-6 goals kicked on them combined for the season.

I absolutely loved that last quarter. Ugly, desperate, give no ground footy. Compared to previous weeks where we have simply gone missing at crucial stages it was huge.

I reckon one of Malthouse's key messages sunk in tonight - they worked their guts out for each other and that was shown in the gut-running by Jeffy and Armfield to shepherd Yarran.

Speaking of which , I loved Yarran's last goal in the 2nd quarter where Selwood is busting a gut to catch him and getting nowhere and Jeffy pretty much just jogs past him to apply the shepherd. Poor bugger just gave up running after that.

I'm still very love/hate with Lucas. He is a bit of a turnover merchant and one of the worst for ineffective tackling - he let a softc*ck like Priddis break away from him time and again tonight. But then again, he runs his arse off, makes space and pops up with some very handy goals.

Another player with a potential upside is Sam Rowe.

You can tell he still doesn't quite think he belongs out there yet but when he gets some confidence about him and his place in the team he is going to be fantastic. He's very Jonathan Brown-ish in the way he goes about it - he has the strength to smash packs, bully defenders and has a pretty good lead on him. Keep him fit with his tail up and he will be very good for us. Could have had 4-5 tonight with better kicking.

The most complete team game I've seen us play in years. That's exactly why malthouse was brought in and we can only improve from there.

Ling said something clever about this - he claimed MM may use him just to lock down someone who may win the game for the opposition - someone who might be on their game and creating a problem near the end of the game.

That would be clever coaching

He did 1-2 things good, but most of the night his tackles were weak, handballs and kicks crap, he just seems out of form IMO - hope the goal at the end lifts him next week

Agree

Army was fantastic too - he has a team mentality and the pace to create fear near to ball carriers.

206 and Rowe were very good, Murphy came good.

Zach was good again, Scotland just keeps on keeping on, a favourite of mine,
Hammer good early

Loved the shepherding now for tackling practice for some

There needs to be an urgent umpiring enquiry about the game. WC only 4 more frees than Carlton. 22 v 18. Disgraceful. Eagles supporters in uproar.

Their frees were always forward of the centre though

good coaching tonight - but lets not get carried away; Worsfold loves sticking with his original game plan and playing one on one footy and MM dictated this on our terms. Wont happen against other teams who will adjust. Allowed us to stop their run and protect our backs, who finally stopped small/mid forwards kicking a bag this week.

That said; every player who had a role - did their job tonight. Carrazzo; Army; Tuohey etc

Jamo has been a rock this year. He is now starting to take defensive marks again, a sure sign he is playing confidently

Garlett was awesome tonight; in concert with Yarran; was the difference

Worried in the last; we looked spent. But we adjusted our game plan became more defensive and crowded the ball, creating a lot more stoppages. First I have seen this approach actually executed well. It was won us the game.
