Again can some-one tell me what the complete board voted for that night? Why would the MCG not keep us afloat with better $$$$?

They couldn't arrive at a decision Surrey. The rumor was that the vote was 6-4 to the 'G, but that's never been corroborated. Once everyone had the full story that included the full financial picture (not available at the first meeting), there was only one course of action available.

The offer of a five-year agreement for matches at the MCG with a further five-year option looked great. But Carlton couldn't afford to break its 'Optus Oval' contracts without any financial help from the AFL. My only problem at the time was the length of the Docklands deal. It should have been 5 and not 10 years, but unlike Ian Collins and the board - I didn't have the whole picture to base a decision on. The MCC were playing hardball and the $3 million just for moving was too good to ignore. Remember, in 2004 we were as good as broke.

Thank You Doc. Well put.

In summary;
We agree that the vote was for G. Tick.
We agree that the AFL gave us money to go to Etihad and not the G, therefore f****g us up long term with both memberships & gate returns. Tick.
We agree the AFL wanted us out of PP because they were not receiving any financial dollars from that arrangement and we were bloody doing well. Unforutantely, it wasn't very well management but that is a different story!

The only thing we don't agree on, is the even though Collo was the man in-charge of both Etihad and PP he wouldn't want us to move to Etihad and therefore had nothing to do with the deal from the AFL. OK - I can live with that if you can.

Thank You for being honest.

If people believe that a move to play a few more home games at the MCG will see a spike in memberships... well #%@^ me... if only it was as easy as that

Not all of us hate Docklands... no one I know refuses to buy a membership based on this

42k for a club like Carlton is shit... plain and simple... factors are varied

Maybe the events of the last decade mean that we ain't the superpower we once were... maybe once we come to that realisation we may be able go forward

"We are Carlton - flower the rest" just don't cut it anymore

It really wasn't all that long ago that Hawthorn were struggling to find members and now look at them? One of the healthiest clubs in the AFL.

Carlton, i feel, has lived in the past for a bit too long and due to some poor management and leadership we have been set back 10 years thus allowing the likes of Richmond etc to overtake us!
We just expect it to happen cause "we're Carlton........." - that shit just doesn't cut it anymore indeed Hornet! I'm with you.

We want 50k members? Well, it ain't gonna happen overnight and i think it's silly for the club to just assume it's going to happen.

You're still not understanding how close to the wall we were.

The whole point is we have a long term future now. Back when the Dome decision was made, with the lure of a $3m sign-on fee, out long-term prospects weren't so clear.

Yep, the "maybe" members will now be "oh well maybe next year" members.

Got a call from the membership dept.

Nice young lady asked for a few details and updated me on the progress of my members pack.

Thankyou membership. Good job .

Photo opportunity gone begging. Club should have got Kouta in the '43' and his three kids wearing '0' standing next to him. 'Tis ok though...Grace, Charlotte and Sophia Carrazzo sitting next to their Daddy in '44' presents the perfect opportunity in a couple of weeks. To keep the numbers ticking over, you've got to keep the PR ticking over too.

Still only marginally ahead?

Brandishing Mick around the club like he was our saviour hasn't really helped, nor has the "get us to 50,000 or we won't play at the G" approach.

Anyone else have any bright ideas?

What about

Get us to 50,000 & we'll stop brandishing Mick around the club like he's our saviour

I think the club has moved on from waiving MM around and saying 50000 will get us to the G .

To combat the apathy It's now " we ain't winning till we get 50k!!!l"

We are really crawling along at a snails pace now. The draw hasnt helped in only having one home game in the first 4 rounds.
I think we will struggle to get to last years figures unless a wealthy supporter buys a bundle.
