So far, getting MM has not reaped any visible benefit to me. We are still playing Ratten's game plan. When it looks good, it is good but defensively we are crap. The MM zone is too tight and allows players to run loose outside the packs and opens us up week after week.
Defending the kickout should be of the utmost importance but we have a zone that allows the opposition to run and chip goal to goal. The concept of slowing the game down or playing one on one for a while to break up the opposition game just doesn't seem to be in the plan.

We are not playing ratten's game plan - we move the ball on a LOT more quickly and cleanly under ratten - He was all about speed and attack -> its why our playing group includes more 'speedsters' than most other teams in the comp.

We arent playing malthouses game plan - that's sort of died off in the first couple of rounds (slow movement, waiting for numbers to build before kicking down the line/boundary to a tall etc

We are playing a bit of nothing atm - it will probably get worse before it gets better

And how bad was Hammer below the waist tonight ? Just was a joke around the clearances in that area. Bad kicking for goal also blew whatever hope we may have had.

Conceeded 7 goals in the second qtr for the second time this year, conceeded 7 goals in a qtr for the third time this year.

Only conceeded 7 goals twice in a qtr for the entire 2012 season!

hmmmmm

Leaking like a sieve.

Were copping the small mid swarm
our players arent working hard enough... and its the mids and smalls tearing us a new one as we dont have enough players who are both ferocious at the ball.. or work hard enough both ways.
Hunt kicked goals on Murphy
Carrzzo held Selwood but didnt do anything to hurt them.
H Taylor
Bartell

You have to go to dangerous spots on the ground...when youre tagging... going the opposite way.
Davies Carrazzo dont.

We run the wrong patterns....

We just dont work hard enough.. either too one way forward or too one way defensively.

The game has gone up another notch this year.. and our players are exposed

Yep. God help us if MM has actually implemented his defensive game plan.

Geelong scrap very well in defence, force the error, and score most of their goals from turnovers on the rebound. We had very few easy goals, they had many.

Still this is the third week we were in with a big show with 10 minutes remaining, when it looked like it might blow out.

I thought we played well, apart from those concentration lapses CK referred where we were scored heavily against.

We are competitive , but that's just not enough is it.

Where the hell should we play Walks? What the hell to do about Hampson? Surely we can't keep playing AJ and Davies. Can someone please teach Lucas how to tackle. What the hell has happened to Simmo?

Unlike BG72 didnt enjoy the game because I'm a sore loser.

Thank god I don't have to go to the footy next week.

Murphy did that at one stage and gave away a free kick for having the temerity to attempt possession of the football!

Can only watch from the lounge room, but yeah it was the depth of smalls that destroyed us again.

Reiwoldt and Cloke 0 goals, JPod 1, Tomahawk 3, yet we are getting big scores kicked against us.

Kept Selwood quiet and Chapman had little influence, just as last week we kept Pendlebury and Swan in reasonable check....

....but last weeks Elliott/Blair/Dwyer's were this week's Motlop/Christensen/Stokes/Duncan and Hunt's. Absolutely destroyed us in between the 50 metre arc's.

I didn't really know what to expect going into tonight. Think I've realised that 2013 is going to be a rocky season and we've got a lot of players who aren't up to it, either at all or just at this stage.

Lucas - obviously they want him to become a player and are persisting with him. But god it's painful to watch. Has cost us quite a few goals over the last 3 games (misses tackles, skill errors, decision making), and often puts the recipient of his disposal into trouble. I don't think a trip back to the 2s would be a bad idea.
Hampson - didn't look fit to play. (So, why play him?!) I noticed at the start of the game he was wearing no shinguard, so obviously the plan was to leave him up fwd and have Kreuzer and Rowe on ruck duties. Still...he just didn't look completely right.
Tuohy - I thought he was much, much better tonight than he has been lately.
Garlett - Curse of the puff piece, did not have the impact I'd hoped for.
Yarran - Thought he played pretty well. Is getting plenty of the ball and creating a bit too.
Buckley - Nice goal on debut, good for him to get 3/4 of a game and against a good side too.
Mclean - as per Tuohy
Rowe - Not too bad for second game against a good side.

Kade Simpson get a special mention. I don't know if it's the beard, or he's got the shits over not getting captaincy, or something else - but he has been simply horrible lately. Should be dropped.

I know we missed a few goals in the third but I actually think our goal kicking has improved this year.

Umpiring was stupid especially in the second quarter. Frustrating to watch the inconsistencies (again) and no doubt can expect more of it next week.

Geelong supporters used to be OK but they're insufferable now.

Three games in and two broken bones already - can we get some calcium supplements?!

Very harsh on Gibbs there Springsteen. He is injured. He does put his head over the ball and has been absolutely wasted in previous years by flower around on a half back flank because he could kick and read the play. Blame the recruiting for this. Drafting players without football nous and ordinary skills in previous years has cost us. You don't draft athletes and try and turn them into footballers. You draft footballers with athletic ability.
