I think our development of players has been found wanting. Must remember we were never really ones for developing, we just used to buy what we needed. Does not matter whether you are an early draft pick or a rookie continued development is crucial. I believe we have failed somewhat in this area over recent years.

Someone on radio post game (maybe Carey) saying how valuable Collingwood's (& Geelong's) stand alone VFL team is for development.

Good point Navy Blue. Even though we still have our ties with Preston I'm certain we pretty much control the show.

What's wrong with Simon White? I thought he came through at the end of last year and is cherry ripe to play.

Some of the comments are mind boggling. Bootsma has played 7 games of AFL football. Not going to win the Brownlow, so sakc him!

Lucas has played 20 games of football and is improving, but he's not as good as Chris Judd, so sakc him!

Even Davies who has only played 16 games... fair enough he seems to be the worst of them and I've been critical of him also.

At least give these guys 40 odd games to develop - at least in the instance of the first two players.

mots has it right - development pre 2012 was terrible. Even during 2012 was rubbish. Last year it was time to sakc Gibbs, Garlett, Hampson and others I can't remember.

There are sure signs things are going to be better than they were under Ratts. The expectation of instant success is fraught with disappointment. This is the time to exert a bit of self control and patience. But I know for many people that is unheard of.

If you get to midway of the season and we're staring at a 1-10 type record then you'd be fair to question wtf...

Anyway thats my 2c... I just think the constant cynicism by some is tiresome.

..will again be up to the small fwds to kick a big enough score to win the game, our fwds of current set-up wont trouble their defenders..

Keep lucas bootsma boulter rowe - get games into them lets face it waite never plays and hampson over the last 3 years keeps getting injured
As for Bootsma shown enough in my view to hopefully become a good player - if we are going to drop him run the risk of stunting his development and in my view that was what was happening with Lucas fortunately Lucas seems to be coming out of that and has I reckon a lot of upside - showed real promise when first introduced but then allowed to stagnate

A good chance they will get the second also. Fingers crossed they don't.

From memory we kicked the first two goals from our past 2 games and that didn't work out as we hoped

As long as we don't get 6+ goals in front we should be fine .

Play Warnock. He was super in the Geelong game at the Dome last year before going off injured.

Until we go into games against top 4 sides with more than a "gut feeling" we are actually going nowhere as a club.

Could be a chance CK. I would not be rushing Hammer back after his appendix op. Nor sure if Cas and Rowe are the right mix.

Yeah, I know what you mean Agro. I have not been confident about us winning a particular game against top teams for over a decade. Maybe not sincel 1995.

Totally agree
These kids need ground time. The Kruezer/Rowe/Casboult combo must be given an opportunity. Rowe was a better oprtion in the ruck than was Hampson. Casboult is raw but can break packs. That's what he should be instructed to do. Crumbers then swoop.
Bootsma probably needs a winger role (swap with Simmo on a small forward) for a few games for his development.
Lucas has been the most improved over the first 2 games. Big plus for all our coaches.
Out: Davies maybe Brock?
In: Scotto maybe Buckley?

Then you'd remember the round 12 (1995) clash with Geelong at Princes Park when we got up by 3 points or the Round 21 clash at Subiaco against West Coast where we won by a point and Earl Spalding spiflicated Guy McKenna.

Until our club has that level of resolve, belief in themselves and intensity we are not going to be a contender.

Geelong now are what we used to be - and that's sad for us but great for Geelong.
