We will see how things pan out overall.

The argument of Ratts beat these sides and Mick didn't = Ratten better than Malthouse is simplistic and dumb.

Whilst Collingwood had a few out, and Jolly went down early, they still had almost 700 more games experience than us and were the 4th most experienced side playing on the weekend. Sydney the most experienced followed by St Kilda and Hawthorn.

St Kilda are shot.

Also consider it was Malthouse's 666th game as coach.

Great stats verbs.

I wish you told us before the game...that would have changed everything and I would have picked 8 winners.

If we play like that every week, we'll win more than we'll lose. It was disappointing not to get the victory, but Collingwood are a very good side and we are an OK side. I hate saying that, I don't like it one bit, but we need to face the truth. I'm perhaps less shattered about our performance yesterday than some posters because I reached 'acceptance' that we are years off a flag more than 12 months ago.

I thought the effort was fine yesterday, but unfortunately our opponents played smarter and harder for longer. Why are they better than us? Because they are a better managed organisation and have been for years now. Process comes before talent. It will take Malthouse most of his current contract with us to match the level of discipline and structure that he (and others) have ingrained into Collingwood.

When I think of Carlton over the last decade, the word 'resilient' is not one that comes to mind. Anyone who thinks Malthouse can come in and change that in 2 games is dreaming.

And if any poster says 'but we beat them last year' I will assume that poster gives us no chance this year against GC, Port or St K. I will also point out that they (Collingwood) finished 4th last year and we finished 10th.

Obviously it's disappointing to lose to the enemy in a close match, but some of the tripe in this thread is beyond my comprehension. There's lots of work to do....but didn't we already know that? Didn't we?

I still reckon we might make the 8 this season, but I'm less concerned about that as making sure that, before the end of the year, we see signs that there has been a fundamental change in the way our club goes about its business. There's already a few positive signs from where I sit....

Good post abns except for the part that we are 'way' off to a flag: who knows other than GC and GWS are coming...and we may get a few of their best from trades...who knows..other than we need a couple more guns....I expect for us to get better as the year progresses...much better

Great game. Bad result. The 23 minute mark onwards is a blur. Can't believe what happened. There wasn't much in it imo.

Still could've gone either way.

The foot straight onto the ball in the midfield is something every team does, we just happen to do it every time whereas Pies found a way across in the heat of midfield battle and find a team mate who ran forward.

Casboult was lost imo.
Simmo peaked 2 years ago.
Carrazzo isn't linking.
Love Murph but expected more from him...more of 2011 form.

Carried a lot of passengers and developing players.
Feel sorry for Davies...more sorry for supporters though.

I expect final 8 if not 4.

Bring on Cats

The sobering reality is malty has a very weak list.
Limited mops
An Ageing midfield
And an absence of talented youth.
Collingwood and Richmond on the other hand have improved their lists and yet we have been competitive. The test will be to win the the winnable games against average sides we lost to last year
However, in my opinion, malthouse needs every bit of 5 years to turn us around

Same story will happen this week. Blues in it until the death knock, a silly mistake will cost us and the Cats will take full advantage and win the game.

I've seen this movie too many times.

We are only 2 games into Malthouse's reign and some people are ready to "jump off the cliff ". Give me a break. I respect everyone's opinion but the amount of doom and gloom on this site has become a turnoff for me. I like most am frustrated at our lack of success over the past decade but there are a further 20 games to go this season so I am prepared to give it some time and reserve my judgement. Hopefully, we can start by winning next week.

hope Menzel is a gun we still need more talent in the side

good post ABNS a similar one to cecils which was also good

There is another small forward running around in the 2's that has been forgotten.

Kid can play.

Spot on, reckon Bucks will have the hunger and smarts, and I reckon McCarthy will be the one of the other 3 mentioned above make it, good kick, has strength and speed for his height. Other than Menzel there's another kid from this years crop of draftees that got plentry of natural footy talent
, eager to see TT develope as well.

We put a younger side on the park on average than they did which is the complete opposite to both wins last year. In the last qtr it showed. We ran out of legs. They broke tackles and hit packs harder than we could.

I hope we never have Brock McLean as sub again. He is not a fresh legs player - he's a plodder.

Nice goal.

And two hands for beginners.

Hope to high heaven that the team show total respect towards their captain.

There was that one good shepherd from Bell which helped Murph get his goal.

Not sure if Murph had to ask for the shepherd though.

He demanded the shepherd, wasn't going to get it, Bell was about to run ahead and create the overlap

Obviously very enjoyable viewing.

Yarran's miss though, just before 3/4 time, was a big one (but yes, maybe no bigger than any other miss).

:?: I'm assuming the players would, during the week, get to watch a package of both highlights (esp the 1%ers) and lowlights?

I also found it eerie seeing Carlton destroyed by J Elliot again

which is exactly what he did earlier on, when he then put himself under pressure and then wildly kicked the ball OOFT. protect the ball carrier! especially when its a line breaker like murph

[quote="aerodyte"]-From best to worst-

Walker played 15 good minutes and was back to his usual selfish antics after that. Completely unaccountable when he was given a job by the coach to move down back in the last. This guy is a senior player. Thank god 2011 gave him some trade value.

Ok, Let's unpack this,to post this tripe after a loss reflects poorly on you as a human.
You embellish your posts with such adjectives e.g. ,"unaccountable, selfish antics", etc.
Further, he was not"given a job by the Coach in the last",he was placed as a spare man down back in the second qtr.
Tell me-no tell anyone, when was the the last time any opposition player has kicked a bag on Andy Walker when he has played in defence,I know the answer,in fact tell us all when was the last time any immediate Andy Walkz opponent has scored any more than 1 goal on him?
He has had Hawkins,Franklin, Cloke etc.,plus Milne(1 dubious goal last year).
Now lets extend all this to its logical conclusion, if all six defenders were as "unaccountable and selfish",as Andy Walkz, the CFC would only concede a maximum, six goals per game.
Digest it.
