Talks too much sometimes.

Said that we didn't run hard enough and think smart enough, but when quizzed as to why, says that it was because Collingwood are a very good team. :screwy:

Weak answer.

Coach's job to knock those habits out of this players?

Poor skills and poor thinking should not be put in the same category as not running hard enough.

Again, easy to say, but if players don't know by now that consistently running hard is a must-do, then we have no chance.

Mick said we didn't do it, but, when asked about it, didn't say why. Players not fit enough? Not willing enough?

This also raises the question as to the value of the press conference, where the coach will say one thing (or not say it in this case) in public, but of course will say things quite differently in private.

Seems a big emphasis on the rotations and how you cover for blokes when they come off.

I can imagine this is a tough thing to grasp, particularly when new guys come in.

I can vividly remember our backline struggling (at Subi) to figure out who's responsibility it was to do x or y when a player had to leave his man. Watson and a few others took a half to get it figured out.

And he was really pissed at the presser. Where I was happy with our effort to 3/4 he said the rot started in the 3rd quarter.

Thinking back we did tail off through the third.

I'm encouraged by his displeasure at the performance.

Just been through the tapes  and deciphered that the question dealt with Neil Mitchell, in relation to:

http://www.radioinfo.com.au/news/12300

Hope that helps.

BTW, Murphy must feel like a goose (or unimportant) to sit there for all that time and be asked one question.

Micks been great in the press conference. He was honest and hit the nail on the head. Thank god we have someone that understands what it takes to go from making up the numbers to being a real contender.

..agree, i think saome under-estimate the extent of our teams 'bad habits'.. ..playing faults are ingrained in some players, and will take more than an off-season to correct.. ..i fear some players are beyond it, and our list will need a mini-rebuild in some respects..

Lucas is already one player who has improved significantly in his 2 games under MM. Still needs to fix up other areas, but he is a big plus already. Right now, all I want is growth and development in our younger brigade. Say what you like about MM being the messiah who has to fix it up straight away. This group is mentally fragile and we will take small steps each game for a genuine assault on top 4 next year.
I reckon Yarran and Garlett are also showing glimpsess of improvement under MM. Thought they were good yesterday in Betts absence. Stepped up.
I'm also happy for Bootsma to keep getting a run (maybe on a wing would be good/defensive mid/defensive fwd????)
Love to see Dylan B play this week to give him a taste of it.
Maybe Warnock over casboult this week, although I'm not a 206 fan at all. He's not even one dimensional.

If there's one thing the Ratten years taught me it's that it's very easy to waste your energy analysing words and body language at press conferences, because 50% of what they're saying is the bleeding obvious, with 49% being total bullshit.

(1% is the occasional comment that really makes you sit up and take notice)

Has been some curious ones. But I'm not sure he knows who best suits his style yet. We have a lot of guys who look the goods when everything is open and fast paced, but shaky when its tough and hard.

How can a gun coach who has had a whole year to watch us and analyse us sign on to the blues after months of talks (according to those on the inside) turn up and not make a single trade and then only now discover the magnatude of our teams bad habits?

I call bullsh!t on that.

The only bad habit that is costing us is the one where we lie down when the game is truely up for grabs.

Where is the hard edge defensive style that is going to make us horrible to play against? Just a hint of it?

When i see something that any other coach in the land couldnt do i will give the guy some credit. For now though he is AVERAGE.

This press conference was average too.

He has the right/duty/obligation to assess every player on the list in the best way possible...that's on the field in the heat of battle.

Surely Brock was doing very well in the heat of battle pre season?
