Nice move putting walker in the back half, super smart that

The move was fine, it was Walker's effort that was pathetic. Apparently 15 minutes of good footy gets him a pass from TC.

I was very keen for them to drop Duigan......but to bring this guy in for him was mind numbingly dumb for mine.

Was he that bad today? Or was it a bad match up?

I have seen Hird, Lyon, Sanderson and even Hinkley stamp their brand of football on a team from round 1 first year.

I sheits me no end to see the moaning and carry on, but it just gets too far when the facts are turned 180 degrees:

Hird? 1 finals in 3 years and that one final we bitch slapped them.
Lyon: Freo was struggling big time for the first half of the season until they learned Lyon's game plan.
Sanderson: Yes, big improvement first year and the easiest draw of all. How are they going this year?
Hinkley: Far to early. Won against the Demons.... nuff said....

Some people here really need to get a grip. I wont be surprised if we are 1 and 4 after 5, but I am sure we will improve a lot from there.

Mentally weak!

The same mentally weak squad that lost the Brisbane, Sydney and West Coast finals.....the same one that folded in the last half of 2012 to miss the finals

When we get to the crunch, the lack of leadership and ability to go that extra mile under duress really hurts us!

And it will take Mick a while to get rid of the rubbish and instill his own mindset into the group.

I think we were out coached in the last quarter Collingwood flooded their backline and out ran and out possessed us from there.

It is a long season and hopefully we run into match fitness as the season progresses but we do not look to be there yet which is reported to be part of the Malthouse blue print - healthy list peaking later in the year.

There were for me some signs that the results we are seeing now is a result of our off/pre-season preparation.
Sacking the midfield coaches, tackling coach and not tackling during training has resulted in us slipping back from being amongst the league leaders in clearances and tackling to what we are seeing now.

Hopefully we will make up some ground over the next few weeks and start performing better for longer and win the close ones.

Go Blues.

Is there such thing as a good match up for him?
He's not tall, fast or skillful. He doesn't stick tackles. He doesn't have a knack for finding the ball. I have honestly not seen him do one good thing in any of his 16 games. I have seem him make plenty of horrendous mistakes though (double goal in the WCE final anyone?)

For a game that was so close the reaction is way over the top. Had Armfield received the freekick he should have, when we were pressing to get ahead with 3 minutes to go - things could have been opposite. Same with last week. Had Yarran scored we would have seen an overflow of "the greatest comeback" etc. The team is still learning an d thats why we loose the close ones. Have a look at Freo last year. It takes a bit of time and it will click soon. It's just bad luck we have such a difficult fixture to start with.

I like this post....not all doom and gloom

Agreed.

It's a game of ifs, buts and maybes. Our fortunes will turn around.

Some good points Boris. Coll definitely put a few extra back and the onballers still kicked it there. There is no system to move the ball inside 50 and retain possession when the opposition resort to this tactic.

That's not the question we should be asking.

Why did we hire Mike?

I'm all for a change due to circumstance but we have lost to two teams that we beat last year and I still see the same fragile mentality and game as last year.

Might win the next 3 or might win none.

We do have some weak links but they need to be played to make sure of it.

By all reports the seconds where flint hard yesterday so I'll be interested to see who plays.

I reckon MM will blood a player or two every week. Next week it might be Cachia and Buckley but I would think Casboults days are numbered.

I'd like a call on us beating Geelong, WCE or Adelaide.

We'd be rank outsiders in all three. At least one upset necessary to not go down 0-5 to start Mick's inglorious reign.

I think MM found out today that Davies just hasn,t got what it takes surely he won,t get another gig. I reckon MM will give every
one a go to see who stays or goes at the end of season.

He seemed to be impressed with Buckley in the prematch interview.

Desperate times call for desperate measures perhaps.

Desperate times we are in?

I wouldn't go that far, but maybe it's that I've accepted that this is going to take some time and we were delusional thinking we had a side capable of top 4.

I said before last week we wouldn't make the 8 and I didn't see much today to change my mind.

Need more games into Bell, Bootsma and Lucas.

I think Rowe would be ahead of Levi in the pecking order after today. So most likely Hammer in for Levi next week.

Could it be that we realise the difference between very good and ordinary is a fine one and we just happen be on the wrong side of that? That can hurt worse than knowing that the only way is up.

Losing 2 from 2 to start the year is not ideal......and I'm an optimist!

It seems like the players lack situational awareness, it is the job of the leadership group to get the message out that the forward line is being flooded etc and for the other players to adjust and not fall into the trap.
