..would keep Krooz as main ruck, and have him play majority of the game in the ruck, Bolt can relieve vs lynch..

..would bring in white down back to free hendo for CHF.. ..and i think we need to stay with this set-up.. ..all this chopping and changing of player personal and positions week to week over the years is stalling our team, badly so..

However, that does not mean I'll be checking in at the WFR.

Nope..I'm quietly worried but confident.

To be fair, the WFR is closed until further notice.

Bell on preseason form, probably is going better than almost any of the mids, but he's got to force his way past AJ, Robbo and co?

Bell had some good patches in the pre-season, but I wouldn't say he was unstoppable by any means. Bell still has a lot of areas to work on, and while i really like the way he plays and think he'll be in the side pretty soon, the amount of love for him in this forum is a bit over the top at the moment. All pre-season he's been noted as a fringe player by most on this site. Some had him in their best 22, some didn't. But now come round 1 when he narrowly misses out people are outraged and think he has reason to leave the club? That's just rubbish.

Its more for the physical presence he adds to a team that lacks it and that it's almost impossible for him to be knocked off the ball at the stoppages and after the way we were smashed in the middle last week I think it's fair enough that he's considered a must for this week.

No doubt that is the strength of Bell's game & there is merit to him being included this week, but the calls for him to come in have just been a bit over the top IMO. I've stated earlier that I'd have Buckley & Rowe in for Betts & Hampson, but if Robinson isn't fit to play, Bell is the logical replacement there.

I thought we had the balance pretty right last week. Mclean, Carrazzo, Judd, Robinson and Murphy seemed like enough ball winners to take into that game. Any more and i think we lose our outside run. Unfortunately, the above guys failed to stand up (aside from some patches from Judd).

I wouldn't have had Joseph in my 22, and naming a tagger as a sub seems stupid to me. Having said that tho he does add more pace and defensive options than Bell, and i assume that's why he's there.

You are right that they were well down and if they had stood up the result would most likely have been different but I also don't think we had enough of them to do the work.

How many on-ballers do premiership teams have? Sydney had Bolton, Jack, Hannebery, O'Keefe, Parker, Kennedy and McVeigh in their team last year which is two more than we named in round one.

I don't think we would've smashed in clearances and contested possessions for the first three quarters (which is where we lost the game) against Richmond if we had've had anough ball winners in the team.

Personally i think these coaches have been watching soccer and attempted to superimpose soccer tactics into footy.
If you notice these teams like Manchester United... they absorb pressure and in given windows within a game.. they go all out attack for 5 or 10 minutes...... and i reckon thats what he used to do with Collingwood.
There would be stages within games where there would be a designanted offensive spike scoring in a hurry on the back of a defensive shield
So the game has these pulses of defence attack defence attack....
Often would be just before the end of a quarter ... or early in a quarter.

Very soccer

I agree as do many other AFL/ soccer fans. Good timing to bring that up.

Frustrate....deteriorate standard of game...create boredom....then open it up when the opposition expect more of the same in the fight for the pill in the middle of the pack...and bang ban gang...hopefully 3 quick goals...a gap...scoreboard pressure and load up again.

+1

Kreuzer's record on Jolly is quite impressive. Try turning negatives into positives and leave positives alone.

I agree in a way. I think they manipulated space like in soccer and choked things up becoming so horrible to play against that eventually (usually the end of quarter) the other team just couldnt stand it anymore and the pies then go bang. 4 quick goals. Almost for the oppositions own relief.

Remember though back then 2009 2010 the super press was just kicking off and no team knew how to deal with it and in those seasons teams still left 8 blokes in the back 50 to get the ball out against 15. Still trying handball it out as that is what the cats did up to 2009. Teams have since found better ways to deal with it although it is still effective.

Malthouse will need a new trick to go with his boundary hugging style. Lets see what he has.

89 of Collingwood's 103 points last week vs North Melbourne came directly from Kangaroo turnovers. Use the ball well and I think we win. Butcher it and we get smashed. They're going to be happy with us going wide. As soon as the ball gets kicked to a contest though and they regain control - watch them run and carry through the middle. We'll need to make their defence run. And then run some more. You can spread the Pies defenders out wide and create holes and that's where we need a half-forward like Matty Lappin who would repeat lead, repeat lead and more often than not wasn't on the end of it, but worked his opponent over.

I say no to tagging Pendlebury and Swan...but I would like them to be accountable when O'Brien pushes up. He presses so high he virtually becomes a forward-flanker/wingman. Jamo and Henderson have to start back.

I'm suspecting/hoping that MM's ego is so large he left something up his sleeve last week, so that he could roll it out this week :sly:

Extended bench...but makes sense if it happens. Not close though I wouldn't have thought.

Is this like the "You heard it here first, Kade Simpson won't play tonight" from last week?
