Give credit were credit is due club.
A good coach adapts and implements.
Malthouse is a cunning old coote and he has survived and flourished at 3 different clubs and over twenty years.
Two step forwards one step back.

 enjoy the journey

not true, sitting above his credentials as a premiership coach is the fact that he is a proven developer of young men and a leader capable of uniting a group
The list is good enough to win a premiership in our boards eye's and they rolled the dice.
They didnt roll the dice, they made a decision that was goal achieving rather than tension relieving
No excuses now. None at all. Anything less than a premiership in the next 2 or even 3 years and it will be a huge fail.
improvement in the development of the playing group and having an impact in other facets of the club are all worthwhile and necessary steps on the road to a level required to win a premiership. Considering the TRUE state of the group thats an outright PASS with honours. A premiership is the result of good processes, anything else is wishful thinking
ps. I'll also add he was very much chased by our CEO
One shouldn't expect anything less by a CEO

Don't buckle at half time for starters.

He use to leave Collingwood blokes on Fev to learn a lesson. Shaw left tagged out of a couple of seasons at HB. Lose games. He loved it.

Most of all he should have had it under control by now. At least understood it. Had a plan to deal with it. The fact he was shocked about it in the night granny a few weeks back was as big a shock to me than him throwing his coaching philosophy straight out the window at 1/2 time round one .

..i agree that he wouldn't leave individual players off the hook, but the team generally was performing as it was meant to, even if it was losing.. ..but our team wasnt even close to that..

..we've recruited too much cream, and not enough cake over the last 4/5 years or so.. ..the neccessary in gredients we like to leave to speculative picks, project types and late bloomers.. ..our list has been unbalanced for almost a decade now, and their maturing 'ages' is totally out of sync.. ..MM will help yes, but it will take more time than ppl realise.. ..and it's list orientated, which means there's little to be done but fix recruiting, and wait..

More blame for last year should have been placed on the players. I know that would have hurt face painter types like Moshe and others but it should have been. Ratts had to be moved on but so should the players that laid down week after week and then let the coach take the fall (like they hoped would happen like coaches before him). Big trades should have been made. We wouldnt have had to lose that much talent and if done well we could have sent a message to the playing list and added some steel with new players not familiar with the 2002 -2012 play/don't play book.

Malthouse thinks he can turn it around. Good on him its all about Mick.

Being shocked by the soft underbelly existed in the night granny doesnt convince me he did his homework. Tossing out the defensive mechanism he spoke about all summer being the backbone of our game style at half time round 1 is alarming. He has admitted doing it and admitted he won't do it again so there is a start.

The freo comparison is a good one but lyon never deviated. He started by making them so defensive they barely scored and then worked out from there. There was a theme.
Maybe Malthouse will start this week. He is now talking about 1 thing at a time. I expect a mass of Carlton players around and behind the ball this week and a low scoring game.

Will never like him at Carlton. To me he is there for all the wrong reasons.

Think you are on to something there, Club.

Players have lived a charmed life. Why didn't they ask about the Murphy "tackle"; the Gibbs' sidestep; Yarran's attitude? The non-existant midfield???

Had to smirk when MM said "it's not about one person ..."

Riiiiiight.

I think you're firing blanks there club. The club wasn't in a great position to make any trades with the Salary Cap structure and the word of Judd's deal being pulled by the AFL. This has been widely discussed. No big trades could really happen.

There was quite clearly a rift between coaching group and players last year. Who blames who? When Malthouse arrived he said he didn't care about what has gone before, that it's a clean slate and players will be judged moving forward. I'd be surprised if there was not internal frank discussions with some players though. Unless you are part of the inner workings of the club you can only go by innuendo or what is put out publicly.

I don't think appointing Mick is all about Mick at all. You could tell when he finished coaching the Pies that he wasn't done with coaching yet. Someone was always going to appoint Malthouse. Just so happens the Blues did.

In January I was at a function where a few current and past Collingwood players were present, and I couldn't resist a "Go Blues, Go Micky!" jibe. The view was unanimous that they thought the Blues will be right under Malthouse. That's not a bad endorsement. They might be wrong, but they played under him, so they'd probably know best right?

It might still fall in a heap. It takes a lot to be successful. But don't try and say that Ratten's position was tenable. It wasn't from before mid-way last year.

The constant over negativity and unhappiness of supporters is wearing thin. Get on board. Support the club and whoever runs out there and whoever directs them. If Malthouse can't get this group to the top, it's fair to say nobody can.

Note: this isn't a shot at you club29. Just a general comment. I do enjoy reading your viewpoints.

........and who cares if it is about Mick? get over yourselves.

Fact is he has been successful. Of course it has to be about Mick.......ask the players and clubs that have been successful about it all being about Mick. He is driven and has been successful over a sustained period.

Further, I don't get what the issue is with "throwing the game plan away at half time". We were losing, credit to him for trying something else. It worked.......and we'll benefit greatly from that process.

Although he said he doesn't want to do that in the future, so it'll be interesting if we are 7 goals down at half time to Collingwood whether he does revert to that.

I hope we're 7 goals up, personally :D

I thought we got a coach, not a soap opera. All this crap about him and Eddie is pathetic and shouldn't even be commented on.

Morning London Blue, .......or is it evening over there. Still snowing? Malthouse has no history in making it up as he goes along. It must have been a suprise to you to see him dump his plan?
I can't see how it would benefit the team and long term it isnt a sustainable plan. He has admitted that. Almost straight after the game and then again on On The Couch. Said he wouldnt do it again so he clearly had an issue with it.

Perhaps it is just a blip. A brain fade or something. Still worth discussing as id imagine deep down none of us would be happy if it continued.

I'm starting to wonder whether a loss on Sunday is the best thing for the rest of the season.

We beat Collingwood by 10 goals tomorrow, going by those comments by Mick OTC and in the papers, what's left to prove? He may as well resign. He gives off the impression he's Malcolm Blight without the golf swing to perfect without the motivation to stick it up Ed.

At the very least, we get a dozen extra weeks out of him wanting to prove he's still got it.

Concerning. 2011 GF all over again.

I can cope with that, because much of it is driven by the media. But I thought the No Limits Pt3 video where Mick himself brought his family into the "discussion" was unnecessary.

6 years of stagnation?
Were you out of town when we participated in the finals for 3 years after a wooden spoon?

Well said ... seriously ... people just have blinkers on when Ratten's name is mentioned. 3 years in the finals ... one kick from prelim.

I am not particularly fond of Tricky Micky as Carlton coach but I hope he has great success here. We won't have the patience that other clubs have had waiting up to 10 years for him to succeed. The so called master coach has what ... 3 premierships in nearly 30 years ... still ... if he gets us 1 at Carlton I will be happy.

Go Micky ... Go Micky.

faaaarkin 'ell who cares??????????

seems we're taking this pretty calmly...........

fact is we're struggling bigtime as is and we've just lost 25% of our goalkicking power for the next month (not to mention Hammer for the next 2, probably another 10% of scoring power)

no positive reports from the Ants regarding 208, laids, bell.... definitely doesnt sound like form to promote someone on

casboult/rowe key fwd line is the weakest in the league......... maybe melbs wins until Dawes gets back...........

prepare for a catastrophic time

now whats this got to do with Mick?

(besides the fact we're going to blame him for EVERYTHING)

I think his words were 'I'm pretty pleased with the list'

What did it have to do with Ratten when he had horrible injuries last year? Still beat the pies and tigers twice though, so let's see how we measure up this week eh?

Improvement in a playing list and depth doesn't happen over one pre-season, which was the biggest black mark throughout last year.

Malthouse publicly "Premiership potential list"
Malthouse privately "Flower"
