It's not all that black an white club.
Give credit were credit is due club.
A good coach adapts and implements.
Malthouse is a cunning old coote and he has survived and flourished at 3 different clubs and over twenty years.
Two step forwards one step back.

Yes, I can see that you've done a complete turn around, Club. You used to think Ratten was the right coach but we had shit players and now you think Ratten was the right coach but we have shit players. You used to think Malthouse wasn't right for Carlton and now you think Malthouse isn't right for Carlton. You've done a veritable u-turn there.

I wouldn't be applying for any jobs as a boomerang if I were you. ;-)

Oh yeah. Maybe i haven't changed. Maybe it is circumstances that have

Now not shit players as such. More as a group shit. I am not blaming recruiting but the construction of the list has not come off.
We got some fine ingredients but together they make an AVERAGE meal.

I blamed Ratts for that many a time. Put his faith in the wrong blokes. Thought it was time for him to move on and let someone else try and sort out a recipe. Maybe get radical and trade a few of the players with habits of failing.

Not Malthouse though .........for f&%k sake. :donk:

club29, if you were in charge - who would you have replaced Ratten with at the end of last year? Sorry if you've already said elsewhere but I am curious if you had somebody else in mind who you think should have got the gig...

Hey redback, lets see how cunning he is, shall we.
I have a feeling we will be having this discussion again shortly.

I didn't have anyone in mind. I might have liked them to take a look at Rocket at the time. I like WIlliams also.

I can see why they went Malthouse. I just can't handle it. I know i am being irrational.
I will do my best to find holes in his work the same way others did with our other coaches. Round 1 he made it far to easy for me.

The truth is they went for Malthouse because he is a premiership coach. Nothing more, nothing less.
The list is good enough to win a premiership in our boards eye's and they rolled the dice.
No excuses now. None at all. Anything less than a premiership in the next 2 or even 3 years and it will be a huge fail.

ps. I'll also add he was very much chased by our CEO. Lets hope he has done something right in his 5 years at CFC.

Here to win a premiership because he is the best coach. Our CEO said so!

He's got a free pass for 2013 and beyond according to a few.

Yep he has to clean up rattens mess of a game style

So, just give the season away?

5 months to figure it out already.

Let's hope he can get them working together a little sooner than 2014.

He will eventually clean up Rattens mess.. but there will be no flag IMO.
The problem is who will clean up Sticks... who organises the mess from the very top?
Ratten was an amateur coach.. but the truth is ... he was part of an amateur set up...
coaches who were part timers looking after our kids etc.
Ruck coach who has been around for 6 or 7 years without any real success in his work
A recruting guy who would take half back flankers hand over fist and noone would question him about it.
Footy managers who sign up lamers for multiple season contracts.
CEOs who forget to lodge paperwork that could have cost us millions of dollars in the re development
a mid 40 k membership
Coaches signed and then dismissed and paid out .
A debt that is only under control cos of benefactors donations.
A bloated board
A team without leaders.
Unable to land the coaches we seek because of a lack of funds.

the club is just not what it used to be... caught up in a net of new age and not knowing what to do.....

Who would put up with that and expect to win flags???

.... and yet Stiicks will be around to usher in season 150.....

:screwy:

We are a long way behind flag winning form as an organisation.

I dont see flags in the next decade.....

I don't know what is sarcasm and what is honesty with this one. Truth is, we are a bit like St Kilda were in that we have a reasonable degree of talent but we don't gel enough as a team (I still think a lot of that is list mismanagement). I predicted we were heading in that direction quite a few years ago. Mind you, I'm entering this thread blind and that may be the theme all along.

It's all well and good to give Malthouse five years, if he keeps refreshing the list but we don't want to keep flogging a dead horse.

you want to see a premiership?
on what basis?
whats our recruitment llike?
whats our development like?
etc etc etc

Malthouse might bring stability and cullture and some belief... but we hardly have the organisation to threaten for flags/..

might happen "the bradbury effect' .. but highly un likely

Laugh at st kilda but they went a lot further in the last decade than we have of recent times.

2 GF's and 3 Prelims, better than what we have come up with.

What this club needs to do is pretend the club started in 2000... instead of 1864
Wining flags 100 years ago .... 40 years ago... and 30 years ago .. with our last flag around 20 years ago means JACK flower SHIT to anyone under 25.......

In this century we have been worst performed club of all.....

But are we really daring to believe were a powerhouse still???
In this century StKilda have shown us a clean pair of heels as has everybody else.
Our record has been the worst..... but dont worry..... Germinder said 20 by 2020

So we should believe it.

I don't, I wanted them to succeed for the sake of two siblings and a father who barrack for them, seeing as we weren't going anywhere fast. I was simpling comparing the degree of talent versus rate of success with both clubs. We have more missing from the mix than St Kilda did.

Why I'm less optimistic than I could be is that, even at this stage, it's obvious that something out of left field needs to happen in regards to our tall forwards. Give us time to get that right and Judd and Waite are gone or going.
