I am a "supporter". Over the five and a half years of Ratten's tenure this was how I "supported" him.
2nd part of 2007: Great. One of my favourite Carlton players is coach, and don't take it too seriously because we're #nottanking anyway.
2008-2011: Well we're improving albeit slowly, but at least it's an improvement, and we almost stole a prelim final appearance. I know it's been the better part of 5 years and we have 3 no1s, a no2, a no6, a no9 and the best player in the country who just came off a better year than when he won the Brownlow, but give it ONE MORE YEAR. He's a Carlton champ and we DID slightly improve.
1st part of 2012: it's not as bad as it looks. You watch, we'll take care if this Port Adelaide rabble and the season will take off from there!
2nd June 2012, around 9:00 pm: ok, there's standing by your man and there's pure pig-headed, head-in-the-sand denial. This is not working, and as much as I want it to, it's clear he's lost the players. It's time for a change, and really from the top down.
Now, Club29 and other flat earthers. I'm willing to give MM approximately the same consideration (perhaps slightly less because he's not a past carlton champ) but also slightly more because he's demonstrated FOUR times that he can take a rabble and turn it into a silk purse (#mixedmetaphor).
You should hop aboard too. It will be fun!!
Others got on a lot earlier than that. " i cant see any any defined gameplan " . That started early. " Any improvement is organic " very early.
He may have got a bit of slack in the first 12 months but that was because the list was young and only just recruited. Malthouse has the list according to those who would not hear a bad word about the players last year and the two years before that.
If any coach had of stepped into the role last summer, trained up the team to play a certain way and then shat themselves at half time of the first game and reverted to a style that he had spent the summer trying to coach out of them to win a game and get plaudits they would be copping it big time here. Malthouse has gotten away with it and even got praised by some who over the years have not been kind to anyone let alone Ratten.
Moshe i don't remember you being someone for or against Ratten.
I went the players last year and the years before that about them choosing when to put in and their lack of mental strength. I said that Ratten had had enough time to drill that out of them so give someone else a turn. I said he put his faith in the wrong group. "supporters" on here would not hear a bad word about the playing group. Mismanged. Still looks the case now. Flat earthers.
The coach selling his soul at half time in the first game wont do much for our mental strength.
Moshe agree with most part except for the start (I didn't think he was the right person at the time) but also not as patient as you. Refer my last post.
Club agree with you also except for the end as it seems that he has managed to alter his game plan to suite the situation.
If we kept going the way we were it would have been a pathetic way to enter the season. With some changes and willing to adapt we restored some run and fight in a game we should have won but instead played a only a half of bland and insipid football.
