As Surrey and others including BV have said, our time is now.

Mick was brought in for a top 4 finish and a flag in the next year or so, not to rebuild.

We're a few players short of a premiership list, but our core is at the age and maturity now where we need to strike.

The ruck, midfield clearance, and marking forward issues need to be solved with the players we have and with good strategy.

It needs to happen now while we still have The Great One, three number one picks entering their prime, a very solid back six (injuries permitting), and class scattered throughout.

If it doesn't happen in the next year or three it could be another 15 years until we get another realistic shot, given the draft and the emergence of the baby clubs.

we've got too many players who dont have the mental discipline and consistency in performance - they get it together at times but they just make too many errors at other times

If you're going to rebuild (Which is ridiculous IMO), bring in a young coach who will be there to bear the fruits.
The board appointed Malthouse because they believe we have a top 4 list. I havent seen anything to change that.
Lets face it, Malthouse didnt think the list needed a lot of changes when he had the chance.

the really good teams don't make too many elementary mistakes on the wrong side of the ground and allow easy/soft goals. Until we eradicate these lapses, we won't be winning or contending for premierships. Watch the last few grand finals and you will know what I mean. Mick will be building to this.

Hmmm, perhaps you should be more specific. Which mistakes are you talking about? I just watched GWS go on a 5 goal rioll against the current premiers. Plenty of mistakes made by the Sydney players. What are you expecting? Perfection?

Hope Malthouse can fix our centre bounce setup. If you get beaten every week in the clearances you'll be lucky to get off the bottom 4, let aloneness the top 4.

They've been very good for the past 3 years.
Suddenly we dont have a stoppage coach, we have a midfield coach who's been out of the game for a decade and its turned to shit. Stupid decision.
We need to rectify it straight away because we'll struggle to win many games getting caned out of the middle.

That's the most galling thing, got smashed in the centre al NAB Cup and nothing changed for round 1.

For me, this year is about Mick working out what he has at his disposal, who he need to dispose of and what he needs to bring in to fill the holes.

The players have a new way to learn and mick will work out who his a graders are and his core list of players to lead this and then will find the right kids to play the support roles. It might be we don't have the right ones on our list yet and he will have to find them via trade or vfl

For those who think a coach in his first year at a new club can come in with a completely new game plan to teach, with a playing group he hasn't developed nor recruiting for his style of play and take us to a premiership are delusional.

It's gonna take time. It might even take a tweak of his game plan but it will eventually click for us but it won't this year.

I'm expecting a radical change to our list come years end

Nailed it man

I reckon the first post that got this thread rolling was a good one if I do say so myself

We got rid of a few duds last year.
Not many
Mick wants to see what he has at his disposal
it will take time

I have been saying it for years
We have too many soft players
You cant have them in a top4 side unless they peform the freakish occasionally(Didak and only one allowed)
Mick will sort out it out.
That what I hope
Gibbs second half has been a long time coming but maybe he knows that unless he extracts the digit he will be a gonski under MM

Want Bell and Laidler in next week

Time will tell if it is ridiculous or not, no use wasting valuable time trying to flog a dead horse, if it comes to that, which it might.

You have missed my point completely. Not sure what you are getting at.

Never mentioned anything about perfection and if you read my statement closely, I am not sure why you would mention a round 1 clash between GWS and Sydney in 2013.

Simply referring to crucial and basic errors like giving up 50 metre penalty goals and coughing up the ball too easily like Duigan and Tuohy seem to do on a regular basis. And I wasn't just referring to Thursday night.

Did we miss out on a Midfield Coach (Cameron Ling) because we weren't offering enough money?

Well i can guarantee there is a sum of money you can throw at anyone and they would be rocking up to work wearing pink bikini.

AFAIC, Mick wanted Wiley to come in and be the man, it has nothing to do with money.
Lets face it, if money was the issue, we wouldnt have paid out the highly rated assistants we had under contract.
We need a contemporary midfield/stoppage coach who recently played as a stoppage/midfield player.

By all means retain Wiley as Micks off sider but lets rate the role with the respect it deserves. Getting a bloke in who's been selling electricity for the past few years isnt doing that.
The midfield is the most important line in the game. We should be putting decent resources into it. I liked the idea of McKay being football manager but if he doesnt show some balls here, its time to get someone who will.
