I don't think that we will make sweeping changes after Round 1. Mick will back in his selections. However, based on performance last night I would make the following changes;

In: Laidler, Warnock, Bell, Dale

Out: Duigan, Joseph, Casboult, Bootsma

Kruezer to play as a permanent forward (which I've never been a fan of) and Warnock to help our mids win some clearances.

McLean & Garlett very lucky.

Swap Walker & Yarran back where they belong.

Kruezer to play Casboults role and Warnock to ruck?

I can see why you would want to do this but I say "No".

Kreuzer was good last night because he knew his role. He was a ruckman all night last night and did well against a man that SHOULD have gotten All Australian last year (Natanui???? Bullshit!)

The best thing about Kreuzer's game last night was that he looked confident and settled. He knew exactly what he needed to do.

I think the answer is to use Hampson better. He took some decent grabs...........

I'm surprised that people want Bootsma and Casboult dropped. Boots in particular was solid. Mick will back the kids.

Is Ellard still injured? He would be a good in for Joseph.

I’m surprised people want Walker back forward. Thought he was good last night and carried the ball well.

For mine, Kreuz stays rucking, Rowe comes in for Levi.

Wasn't Tex unhappy a few years back playing defence and was looking for a trade if he wasn't played forward?

i think he likes to place himself on the ground where he thinks he should be playing not where the coach thinks he should play.

Walker seems to have had a change of heart about playing defence - maybe a some stints back there getting a heap of ball will help him get some mojo back for some forward play

Agree. They weren't the main issue and they'll benefit heaps from the game time. Compare that to last year for someone like Lucas who was sub one minute magoos the next. Everybody, get used to this. Mick will pick the young kids, believe in them, test them, and develop them. Can't wait see more of the younger kids.

80 point game if you ask me Tommi. Loser may as well start sending their veterans off for surgery.

Huge game now. We can beat the pies but need to play 4 quarters not 1.
Clearances need to improve as well but we can beat them and probably will with MM's inside knowledge!

I like what you've done there dannyboy.

However, I think Hendo will play in defence for at least one more week because (a) MM is all about defence and Hendo is our best CHB; and (b) we may struggle to cover Cloke + Lynch otherwise.

As much as I would like to see Hendo forward in that important lead up role (at least until Waite returns), I reckon against the Pies it will be:

Walker Jamo Laidler
Bootsma Hendo Armfield
Lucas Judd Simmo
Garlett Gibbs Murphy
Betts Hammer Casboult

Kreuzer Carrazzo Brock

Inter: AJ, Tuohy, Yarran
Sub: Bell

In: Bell, Laidler
Out: Robbo (inj), Duigan

Obviously Gibbs can't play a conventional CHF role, but I think MM will persist with the 2 big men in the forward 50 and more mobile types like Gibbs, Judd, Simmo & Betts around HF.

I actually prefer your forward set up dannyboy and I don't think it will be too long before that's what we go with. Particularly if we can get a good match up for White or Watson in defence (and bring one of them in for Casboult or Hammer).

I reckon the club will err on the side of caution with Robbo, even though it's a 10 day break. There's too much scrutiny about concussions at the moment for them to go the other way.

Yarran is no certainty to get a game, but I doubt he'll miss through suspension. In fact the 3 guys I have on the bench (AJ, Tuohy & Yaz) are on thin ice as far as I'm concerned. If Ellard was fit I think he would come in for AJ or Tuohy. Even Collins or ROK might be putting pressure on these guys if they were available. Brock would want to keep playing like he did in the last quarter last night, otherwise Curnow may get a shot in his place soon. I thought Brock was back to his 2010-2011 form in the first 3 quarters. The idea of using him as Sub (ie. bring him on when the pace of the game has slowed down) has merit, but I would back him at this stage...for now. And I have my doubts that MM will drop Duigan, but a straight swap for Laidler just seems so obvious (to me, anyway)....

Could MM pull out a surprise and promote Temay, Buckley, Menzel, Dale or Cachia? (not sure if the last 2 can play unless we have an LTI?). And it perhaps speaks to how poorly most of us rate Davies the fact that he is not being talked about as an option at a time when our backline is unsettled and there is a need for a stonger body BP/HB in the team...

Is Warnock the answer to the midfield issues we have at the moment? Potentially. But I can't see Kreuzer or Hammer being dropped after last night and playing all 3 never works. I want to see Warnock playing with a bit of urgency in the VFL over the next couple of weeks and it wouldn't hurt his cause to clunk a few grabs in the forward 50 either. Ideally, I think we want Kreuzer & Warnock both in the side, with Waite forward. In some games we can also play Casboult or Rowe up forward (or Hendo, if Watson stands up in defence).

Walker seemed to play like a guy who was happy to be in the back half. Did some great things, particularly in the 2nd half.

Think there's a chance Simon White could come in for Levi to give us fwd and back swingman options - this is something we don't really have at the moment as Levi can't go back.

I agree Laidler for Duigan is a no-brainer but Duigs is MM's new Maxwell.

That's pretty sweeping.

Dale isn't even elevated.
