Couldn't have put it better myself. The last of our feared players left some 15 or so years. Too many nice guys now. It's time to start making opposition players second guess.

Main challenge he has is making sure our players are galvanized in playing to win all the games by playing as winners play.

And hopefully the players who don't buy into this philosophy are either not selected and then moved on at the end of the year.

What Mick needs to do is to get the side to play to it's strengths and play as a unit (and hope that we have most of our best side available). I don't follow the 'game plan is king' philosophy as each side is different. We'll never intimidate a side if it's all about mongrel and physical strength across the park because we are just not like that. We always seem to be beaten by a few individuals having a day out. There has got to be a message there, somewhere. Fans always respond by wondering why and wanting us to have players who can stop them. Do we do the same thing to other sides?

Why is it that we remember what individual players do to our side and yet we struggle with the 'team' aspect of the game, let alone some of our players giving other teams something to think about?

Yes, we need to play to a solid game plan but it needs to be one based on what individuals are innately capable of.

After what Ratts has done to their collective psyche we might have to go down again and get some.Scar tissue all over the place

Remember Surrey... 1 eliminational final win... and that was all....

Never won any huge meaningful games when the game had to be won.
And continued to melt when pressure was applied

and hard to find a captain after all that time.

Alot of players have known nothing but Ratten as coach....

Will take a superhuman effort to coach us to greatness after the Ratten castration of the players/

to think some people wanted more of him...

The players choking and going into their shell in big games goes way back. Pre Ratts. Hawks v Blues 2007 ring a bell. If Malthouse can change it with this group it will be a miracle.

He will get time to mould the list though. I would have started with some heavy trading this last pre season personally. I am sure he will go for it at the end of this year.

Not good news for the face painter types.

2007 we were super crap! cannot excuse five years plus of attempting to mould a side that you are hoping will win a flag and still can't identify leadership.

ratts was a terrible captain and this is the result.

he Was juddcentric. !

and Judd was a mediocre leader himself.
so not sure where you're expecting Steel to come from.

good sides have leaders and leadership on every line.

we can't even find a likely captain.

criminal!

Free agency will be interesting for us, we need to get in some more tough nuts who don't go into their shells.

Tonight was a total fail for the coach.

The Tigers are the weakest team we will face in the first 5 weeks. They are ORDINARY!

Total?

He made Gibbs a midfielder... something the previous two coach's couldn't.

This year is all about finding out what he's got to work with, he said as much after the game.

In saying that, there were some strange positioning last night.

He did revert to our old game style though. I never would have thought he would do that. He sold his soul.

Really game style means nothing though if he can't put together a group of players who don't fold like this group is famous for.

Hopefully he only looks at the 45 mins before half time and the undisciplined acts in the third. Identifies those who failed and have a history of failing and gives them a blast or a dropping regardless of how they played in the last 30 mins. There is a pattern and it often gets pushed to the side by an ultra attacking, almost comebacks in the last quarter.

All the guys wanting ratts out last year are now protecting MM and blaming ratts for everything.
All the guys that wanted Ratts to stay are attacking MM.

1st half of the game - Massive fail for MM
2nd half of the game - Pretty much Ratts style and we nearly won the game.

I think MM found out last night that his 2010 gameplan probably won't work in 2013. It definitely won't work without a couple key forwards taking and kicking goals.

Lots of work to be done, but have to give him time.
