As expected.

MM won them a flag and built the team into what it is today. They should have more respect, but then again, would you rxpect anything less from the toothless, jobless and brainless Filth fans.

Casboult was a disaster tonight. Gave away two goals (well.. two straightforward shots at goal) through free kicks and was out marked several times. We'd be better off with Hammer as a permanent forward and warnock in the ruck. We are not good enough to carry someone as ineffective as him.... Learn the basics with the NBs.

Gibbs and Kreuzer were immense. Laidler and Bell out are even more bewildering now than before the game.

Didn't deserve to win (but christ it would've been funny if we had've  )

Laidler would've helped but the guy we missed was Warnock IMO. Just got killed at the stoppages in the first half. Plus our tackling was substandard

Good to see Maclean & garlett work their way into it after being very quiet early.

Overall I thought it was a pretty rubbish standard game of footy.

MM stil experimenting with positions obviously.

casboult will take ages..........
weve got Laids, Scotland, Waiter, 208, and Ellard and Rowe (not to mention Lil' Buckley and Menzel to look forward to) to play around with to see who will play in the september action.
thought Boots was commendable actually.
5-6 of our blokes played amongst the worst games ive ever seen them play..........
5 or 6 of their blokes were phenomenal
and we shouldve won on the last kick at goal but yazz wasnt the usual yazz tonight either - im sure the report wouldve thrown him too.

in mick we must trust

Bloody hell, 206 is still growing!!!!!!

This side is going to need a lot of reprogramming/restructuring to reach where we want to go.

Article on afl.com MM says he wasn't overly comfortable with the shoot out in the second half. Run the risk of being exposed defensively he reckons.

WTF? We weren't already being majorly exposed?

He was probably relating it to the future and that style of play not just the 2nd half....but yeah you have a point.

Exactly, was at the game and this boundry at all costs is a disaster.
It's not our go because we can't or won't cover the middle. Selections puzzling as well

At least he wasn't too stubborn to not adapt to the situation.

Betts in the middle worked very well. Gibbs will be an elite afl player by seasons end, and possibly our best player.

Same problems for three quarters that we saw against the Lions last game. We get hands to the ball no problem but our handballing is shocking. How many times did one one our players handball it blindly to a Richmond player? How many times did they get deflected or intercepted by a Richmond player? How many times did a player handball it into the space a teammate was in but had since vacated. At one point one of our players (Lucas?) handballed it to a teammate's back!

On the opposite side of the equation, how many times did our players tackle a Richmond player only to allow him to get the ball off to another Richmond player or break the tackle far too easily?

I don't have the stats for these questions because Ratts is no longer there, but I'd hazard a guess at "shitloads".

Our biggest problem is that turnovers are very very costly when teams station loose players behind the contest. When you are as clumsy and sloppy and arrogant with your ball use as we were tonight you get your arse handed to you.

It was great that the boys had a run in at the end and hopefully that will be a stark reminder that fancy circle work does not win you games - having the desire to compete and fight tooth and nail for every scrap is what gets you there.

And Shaun Grigg you are a class A cauliflower. Keep going that way matey - by the end of your career even your Richmond "mates" will hate your guts.

I thought I saw Pagan's Paddock in the first half

I said the same thing tonight, I am sure the game plan couldnt have been to have our entire team in the oppositions forward half.
Dont understand why Laidler didnt play tonight, surely was a better option than Bootsma or Duigan.
A good comeback and in the end should have pinched the win.
Hampson is a dumb footballer, and Yarran is very selfish.

Skills and commitment are what we lacked for 2 1/2 quarters of the game.

Mick did say after the game that he put players in positions they weren't comftable with in the first half. The changes made should be plan A from now on. I think it was a mistake to play Murphy in the forward line for so long. Hard to captain from the forward line.

If Robbo can't play next week bring in Bell. We need a hard nut.

Have a midfield of Kreuzer, Gibbs, Judd, Murphy, Carrazzo, Robinson and Mclean and get beaten 10 to 18 in centre clearances (CC).

The team evened up the overall clearance count in the second half but the game was lost in the first half.

As I said, all of those gun midfielders/rucks and get smashed in the CC.....a repeat of the NAB Cup grand final.

Obviously the coaching panel were unable to make the required adjustments after the NAB GF to get things going in our favour or to at least break even.

Overall clearances 41 to 33 but I'm sure I saw that at 3QTR time it was 34 to 18. Casboult to the ruck seemed to improve things in the 3rd QTR.

The midfield coach and senior coach need to sort this out ASAP.

Kreuzer was in good touch and the back line wasn't too bad considering the wave of inside 50s and also that their marshall and second best intercept player in the AFL was not there.

k
Kreuzer was our best midfielder till Judd stepped up.
k
Kreuzer showed intensity at the hot spot with body weight and muscle...I love the kid.

warlock fit and in form would have won more Taps.

warlock 1st ruck Kreuzer ruck rover and H
Judd rover......swapping with Gibbs unless Gibbs is on a wing

Warnock and Kreuzer both in the centre bounce.... Jesus. Keep bondi away from the coaches box.

KREUZER IS NOT A ROVER

Don't you just love the footy season? (sarcasm included) Instead of the first thing you think about when you wake up on the mornings after a match being something useful (such as family, friends, job etc) you think about the gnawing feeling in your gut knowing Carlton had just lost a match. Oh, that's right, that is why I feel sick again.

might as well list some "positives" and negatives.

"positives"

Walker- showed a lot in his defensive role. Took away the pressure for him of kicking goals in the forward line, he might even be a top 10 player in the team if he can keep that up. Based on that form I was wrong about what I said about Walker last week, but it is only one week.

Hampson can at least take a mark. That is a good start. Earned his spot for next week unless they decide to change the structure of the team.

negatives

Casboult isn't up to it and at times showed even a lack of interest in contesting. A sulker. That is not what we need.

Yarran for all his sublime skills can demonstrate such terrible skills. The gap between his worst and best moments in a match needs to be narrowed. At moments he can look sublime though - such team lifting moments if he can finish them off with good decisions.

I hope we get to see what players such as Bell, Menzel and Rowe are capable of soon.

p.s what's the bet Yarran gets suspended for his jumper punch that he withdrew speed on at the last moment (reversed speed of the punch) whilst when Barry Hall did exactly the same thing but didn't slow down his speed - he gets off. Just being prepared for the normal inconsistencies.

The 50 against Jamison was there.

The 50 against Hampson was tough.

The 50 against Duigan was flowering ridiculous.[/quote]

50 metres are a blight on the game. Duigan was already in "the protected zone" when the Richmond player took the mark. His mistake was not putting his hands up in the air. For that it cost a goal.

50 metres are over kill -whether paid to Carlton or the opposition I hate seeing them. I hated seeing the one given to Simpson as well for when his opponent went 1 cm over the mark. 25 metres at most.

Gibbs second half and last quarter was very good
Hopefully he becomes an influential mid under MM

Kreuzer as a mid
yes in my opinion
Hampson first ruck

Mclean can go so we dont lose too much pace around the ground

We have problems at each end of the ground. That will be our achilles heel this year

too many soft players still

we are a mid table team probably 6 players short of a really good side

hopefully under MM we can advance from this position

interesting times ahead

Yep, then he backed it up with a pathetic in-the-back tackle a minute later.
Meant to be a leader, and he gives up 2 goals due to poor flower discipline.

Laidler plays instead of Duigan, we win

First one shouldn't have been 50, he was running past
