Possibly, possibly not, but he'd be ok on Edwards or Vickery (or do you forget him on resting rucks last year). Which means Hendo would go to Riewoldt.

Anyway, in Mick we trust, I get it. And I guess he's trusting in Jamo and Hendo standing up.

McGuane is their third tall. Shane 'Titch' Edwards is playing forward, not Aaron the ex kangaroo

Batchelor will go to Garlett and I'd like to see Armfield lock Houli down like he did Newman last year.

Get used to Bootsma like selections, it's one of the great things Malthouse brings to the table....undying faith in young blokes to make their mark.

Even if Boots goes crap tonight I expect to see him in the team for at least the first 3-4 rounds...early rounds for us aren't against Mickey Mouse opposition either which is the way Malthouse seems to like it

I'm tipping Caro has a thing for neck tatts!

Geez we were lucky getting Kreuzer for pick No. 0 that year!

Must say I'm surprised to see Joseph in the side and Laidler missing out - otherwise not too many surprises I guess.

The Tigers have a number of ordinary players in their side - then again so do we.

Just proves her knowledge of actual footy matters is very limited when she has absolutely no idea about her own team she barracks for

..Jamo will take jumping Jack, jacks prefers to play mostly deep FF style, and Jamo is our best deepest KPD.. ..Hendo will take Vickery, who is a fwd/ruck option, and is kicking around the 2m mark by memory, far too tall for Laids [or any other med] to stand.. ..just because it worked once, doesn't mean you'd always try it.. ..Vickery isn't much chop, but it's like last season when Rance [undersized] stood by Hammer.. ..sure Rance ate up all our crap F50 entries, but anything that came in high Hammer got first hands to cos' Rance just couldn't compete, same deal if Laids was beside Vickery.. ..if the ball comes in long and high, it's too easy to give away free's when trying to spoil such a taller opponent..

..i also think Laids may not be 100% ready for crash and bash role, and i reckon Doogs zoning off and helping back into packs and get in front of charging fwds will be his 'go'.. ..i reckon Doogs will play a lot this year, and will play a lot on 'heart'.. ..and being a leader, he'll sacrifice his game and body every week.. ..not saying others won't, but he'll be borderline reckless with his own safety.. ..and he's capable pushing fwd to link up and kick a goal every week or two.. ..he's played 2 seasons for us, was very good in his debut season, and injuries effected his 2nd year.. ..and yet somehow ppl judge his unfit year, over his fit year for his ability and standard.. ..Doogs will help stiffen up the backline.. ..and his kind of experience in such a 'young' back 6 is massive..

..terribly wet conditions today, will actually suit our new gameplan i think.. ..gain yardage, down the conservative outer wings, and marking targets to provide a contest.. ..not good marking conditions, but our runners ought to do well at their feet..

Well if it is Shane and not Aaron Edwards, I feel significantly more comfortable with the selection.

Still don't think Bootsma, on anything I have seen from him, warrants a spot over Laidler, but the height difference I thought I saw isn't there so good on him for getting a game and I hope he plays well and shows us why he's in the 22.

Great side for the wet conditions predicted.
Boots, eddie, jeffie, army are all suited to a wet 'ball on ground' type of game. Good side fo mine.

From my perspective there's no real matchup for laids against this mob, I also think he is a little sore and underdone.
Malty picks sides that are 100% fit. If Laids or Bell are at 95% he wouldn't carry them.

I honestly think we'll steamroll this mob tonight. I expect the bluee to be breathing fire!

..Boots is light on, but other than that he's got what it takes.. ..smart angles and on field positioning when allowed to, excellent closing speed and possibly one of our best spoilers.. ..and he might look young, but he's got that defenders' determination, he doesn't drop his head if he gets outbodied, or loses a marking contest.. ..reminds me of a young bob murphy..

Could it be that Boots (given what we heard about his condition starting pre-season, and getting a rocket from Mick) is being thrown into the deep end to prove himself to the coach and playing group? Otherwise I can think of no reason to have him in the team ahead of Laidler (if Laidler's carrying an injury, he shouldn't be named as emergency IMO), unless they think he would be better suited in the wet.

As for AJ ahead of Bell, baffled by that one, particularly with Bell's form in the 2's.

Bootsma is one player who actually did alright in the Nab Cup Grand Final. (I note a number disagree with me here so maybe I saw something different than others. Was at the ground, so maybe my viewing was obscured). IIRC there was one where he crunched a pack and got nailed. Got his spoil in. I thought it was Henderson (cos Boots has a similar noggin when its cropped short) but found it was Bootsma.

He's put on a bit of muscle. I'm all for giving him a go.

Just wonder what the deal is with Laidler as you'd think he's our third best defender (maybe even second best).

If we get smashed in the clearances like we did against Brisbane it'll cost us the game. I know there was a half assed effort in that Nab Cup GF but we still got demolished in the centre and that just got to be turned around if our "star studded" midfield are to get first use.

Maybe Mick is picking the right mix to match and, hopefully, overpower the opposition. Maybe keeping Laids and Bell up his sleeve come the harder games.

Perhaps Laids has a niggle that ALL of TC has been told about.

The more I think about the more I see the reasoning. He's good insurance for Cotchin or Nahas.

The other we need to watch is Edwards. Has the ability to turn a game and kick multiple goals. Touhy is probably his match up.

Like to see Jamo on Reiwoldt & White on Vickery with Henderson forward. If it keeps raining swap Bell for Hampson.

If we can shutdown one or two of their keys and keep a high intensity around the ball I think we will win well.

Eh? Am I missing something? I didn't think White was named...
