None of this test these unblooded players in games against GWS that essentially prove !@#$%& all. Round 1, 75k+, your spot in the side to earn, Joseph and Bootsma. Go for it. Prove yourself.

At the end of the game, if we're saying to ourselves "if only Bell and Laidler had played, we'd have won", we're !@#$%& kidding ourselves as to our expectations and how we view the side.

Go Blues.

Joseph?

In a team that is fairly open about it's need to learn a new game plan from scratch, and admitting that they're probably still a few weeks off learning it, the need for foot soldiers and players who are best suited to playing to instruction rather than instinct becomes even greater.

I don't think there's a player on our list that fits that bill more than Joseph.

Wow, you got that right.

Supporters with no idea commenting on team selection like its blindingly obvious and only the coach/selectors cant see it.

Laidler missed the NAB Cup final. He's obviously not quite right yet or we're changing his role.

It's a long season kids. Doesn't matter who's playing Round 1. Lets get everyone right and if they need a couple of weeks to get right, then let them have it.

You guys are going to have to get used to one thing. No one is irreplaceable in Malthouse's system. Players will fit that system, noth the other way around.

I haven't seen the team yet, just the comments. I don't care who's in or out and who's been named where.

You have to play your best side. Every extra 1% we can add could make the difference. I don't care what anyone says we are a better side with laidler in rather than Bootsma. Surely he is under an injury cloud or there will be a late change. Surely

Wouldn't argue but Laidler must have stuffed up big time to drop below Joseph in the pecking order. No contest as to who is the better footballer.

You wouldn't play Joseph ahead of Laidler, or Laidler ahead of Joseph though. If Laidler was going in that team, it'd be at the expense of Bootsma or Duigan, I'd have thought.

Plenty of players unlucky. A fairly good Bullants side on paper too.

Seeing Richmonds team it actually still looks pretty ordinary. After all the talk about them I expected a more impressive line up. They've got a few stars but also got some average players in there

Is it our best 22 players or our best side?

Sure Laidler is not fully fit or he would be in the team.

There is no way joseph should ever play in favour of Bell in any role or in any universe!

I couldn't see any of Crows NAB game, but surely Laidler must have struggled to miss selection both games since?

Surely?

Joseph?? FFS, haven't we moved on?

Nothing like that at all.

Walker can consider himself very lucky. He is being selected on reputation alone as a result of his one good season in his 6 plus years of a being a Blue. His pre-season was woeful.

Hampson also very lucky. If you can't kick goals this week Hampson I say adios for a few weeks and give some other blokes a chance. Just a C grade ruckman and a C grade forward. It would be better to bring in someone who is either a B grade forward at least.

I would have had

out: Walker, Hampson
In: Lucas (not the sub, but in the team), Bell and Laidler.

But que sera sera. Bell not in the team???? Very odd. He gives you a lot more options than a plonker like Hampson. (Back up ruck duties to Casboult).

I saw the game and thought that he was solid. It goes to show how little I know, because I thought our back line looked much stronger with Laidler back there and that we missed him in the NAB Cup GF...

I would have liked to have seen Bell in the team too. To a lesser extent, White is also a little unlucky.

Disappointed but not surprised that Hammer was selected ahead of Warnock...

Richmond side has a lot of very average players. Should win and win well.

One thing we have to realize.
When someone new takes over a side or organization things change.
New favourites, new teachings, new lessons and new beginnings.
MM has got time on his side and there is a method to his madness.
