And I will bet London to a Brick they will sell it for about $500 million (plus) on the 2nd January 2025

If this is the case then Visy/Punt rd or another "boutique/stadium" is a must?

That buys the poorer clubs a lot more time to improve their books compared to another 12 years of pain at Etihad. Personally I don't think those clubs have that long to get it right, bullies and norf in particular.

I think you'll find the Dogs will play some games in Geelong. North will @#$%&! it up whatever they do...but it's irrelevant. They have a limited shelf life.

I wouldn't have called Etihad exactly boutique - but I bet the replacement stadium will hold at least 70,000 people.

If you say it's going to be at E-Gate AGRO, you lose a testicle.

Well there will be a shit load of new apartments at Melways Map reference 2E H5 in around 2026 so they are going to have to put the new stadium somewhere.

They'll probably 'do a Waverley' and build Casey Fields up as the new VFL Park. ....and around and around we go.... I'm over it.

Without looking at it closely, the whole idea of a 3rd boutique stadium looks like BS thrown up by the AFL to squeeze Etihad into selling or improving its deal.

Correct me if I'm wrong here:
Is it 10 years before the AFL can buy the ground per existing agreement?
$100m+ to bring a ground up to scratch?
Say 3 years before permits, contracts and re-building of Visy / Punt (ambitious)

So you'd have 7 years of benefit at a cost of $14m/annum, (which exceeds the handouts given to the poor clubs) after which time the AFL buys Etihad anyway for $250m. These costs don't take into account compensation to Carlton/ Richmond for the near-new training facilities being compromised, or the millions required to lease or re-locate the home clubs.

If the term was 20 years rather than 10, ok...but 10 years (7 really), it's another nonsense AFL story.

I think this is closer to the truth. This topic has a lot to do with the equalisation debate and Etihad stadium gives little return for most of the tennant clubs and most of the tennant clubs need help.
One of the solutions to fast track equalisation would be to control Etihad stadium.

That is a real issue.

We have a couple of Billionaires on the Board and Daniel Grollo who built the MCG and AAMI Park is also a Carlton man.

I would like to think that we have the brains, money and business connections on the CFC Board to look after CFC's interests and get some control.

If Sticks and Co can pull this off, they will become bigger than Carlton legends!!

 Also it will be 35K stadium not 20K the AFL is craping on about. :donk:

You are truly delusional (or trolling)...that article has nothing to do with this thread. Or would you care to explain to me - so I can get another laugh - what it has to do with Carlton? Tunnels through Royal Park....yep...that'll fix things!    Where they gonna park?

Surrey youre the man let me sng this to you......

"You belong to the city
You belong to the night
Livin' in a river of darkness
Beneath the neon lights
You were born in the city
Concrete under your feet

It's in your blood, it's in your moves
You're a man of the street

You can feel it, you can taste it
You can see it, you can face it

You can hear it, hey, you're getting near it, hey
You wanna make it, 'cause you can take it

You belong to the city, you belong to the night
You belong to the city, you belong to the night

You belong"

We need more go-getters around here.....visionaries....

Circa 1980s

Why would a stadium boss say that Carlton should concentrate on winning at his controlled stadium?

Would an MCG boss do the same?

I think we've been trying to win there regardless, haven't we?

As much as I wouldn't like to Essendon* get a free kick out of all of this, I think putting the funding into the Melbourne Airport facility for it to be AFL ready, makes the most sense from both a locale perspective for Bulldogs and North Melbourne, and hopefully the kick in the arse the state government needs to sign off on the rail link project out that way.
