Laidler Jamo Duigan
Yarran Henderson Lucas
Simmo McLean Carrots
Armfeld Casboult Robbo
Betts Hammer Garlett
Kreuzer Murphy Gibbs

Judd Bell Rowe Sub: Walker

Rowe can go fwd and back as well as back up ruck.

If we're too tall sub opne out.

Walks has had a horrid preseason and has been costly so can start as sub, if the fwds aren't working he could add x factor.

Unlucky: Ellard, deserves a guernsey but couldnt find a spot

One too many talls. Forget the sub, we can't afford to be caught on the back foot from the first bounce. Rowe hasn't shown enough yet for a round 1 game imo, so he'd be the one to go. I'd bring in tuohy, maybe curnow. The rest looks pretty good to me

Yep 2E for Rowe and I reckon that's about right!

3 more sleeps!

And I really hope we've got a plan in place for keeping Yarran at half back and not get sucked back into the goalsquare.

It was frustrating how passive we were with that tactic in the GF.

Agreed. Surely this can't be that hard. If his opponent goes deep, just stay around half back and swap opponents with someone we do want deep, tuohy, laidler etc.

Alternatively, start him on a wing or half forward and tell him to push back to the defensive 50. I actually think wing would be his best position. He can push into the backline to provide those line breaking runs and set up play, link up through the midfield on the outside of packs and push forward for the odd goal, without having to deal with the one on one marking contests that he obviously struggles a bit with. If his opponent goes to the goal square, send someone else to pick him up. Easy as long as the communication and leadership is good. I guess the question mark is whether he has the tank to do this, which might be the reason it hasn't happened yet.

Either way yaz is a special talent and provides something no one else on our list can. Hopefully we can work out how to get the best out of him because when he does break the lines it makes scoring look so easy

Also I spoke to a mate today who is a trainer for the pies reserves, and was obviously there for the northern blues game. He said Bell dominated the first half and spoken about a lot by the pies camp. They tried 4 different players on him without success. Although he did mention he was given first use by warnock who didn't really have any competition in the ruck. I think he's a lock for round one.

Also mentioned how good Scotland's foot skills were and that he just looked way too good for VFL level, which we already know but it really made me wish he was playing on Thursday

Agree. He should develop in the 2s & get a run when multiple inuries set in IMO.

I'd play Warnock in the ruck with Casboult & Kreuzer as forwards/support rucks. Warnock himself can go fwd if required.

Rowe will play. Very possible that Kruezer will ruck in rotations with Casboult & Rowe.

Wow. if that's the lineup they are going for it says one of two things (or maybe both);

1) They have conceded neither Hammer or Warnock can work as a resting forward (Hammer is a surprise, Warnock most definitely not)

2) They are not worried about Vickery against Rowe/Casboult, and believe that our midfield can rove to Maric when he is up against Rowe/Casboult. Gutsy call.

Is there another ruckman for Richmond I am missing here?

..^^^..

..i would guess that it will be Krooz vs Maric for the majority of the game, and the relief ruck may be up against either Vickery [i think there's a ? whether he will play], or the big O..

..if we play both of Bolt & Rowe, i don't think Knockers and/or Hammer will play.. ..we get too top heavy up fwd, and lose too much run across the ground, and lose too much defensive fwd pressure and our ability to lock it in deep..

Agreed. I think casboult is a lock and then it's either Rowe or one of the other ruckman, most likely hammer because he's better forward.

I agree I think Hammer will get the nod over Rowe. Rowe has some promise but is not quite AFL standard yet you'd think. Casboult is the one we need to really shine this season. Hampson looks improved from last year. Hopefully he gets a decent run without a darn knee injury.

If we play our best we should win. It all depends on what improvement Richmond have had and how conditioned we are. If we have the determination, then we have the personnel to put a good win on the board for Round 1, then sit back and hope North put a dent in the Pies.

Suggestion that D Martin is not 100%. Cotchin and Tuck are the two who can win it for the Tigers if we can't do a decent job.

What's Judd's fitness going to be like for Round 1? He was well undercooked in the NAB Final.

Time for Hampson to lose the "potential" tag.

I'm backing Judd for B.O.G. (just a hunch).

I haven't got time to comment. I'm off to the worry room.

Okay, final crack at it before Round One. Finally!

This is the way I believe MM will line then up

B: Tuohy Jamison Laidler
HB: Yarran Henderson Duigan

C: Simpson Carrazzo Lucas
Foll: Kruezer Judd Murphy

HF: Garlett Rowe Gibbs
F: Betts Casboult Walker

Int: White McLean Robinson Armfield

Emerg: Bell Warnock Curnow

Not bad but I would put Bell in for White.

I'd have Bell in myself Agro and probably for Duigan but I think MM loves having Duigan in defence and Bell seems to not quite there yet.

Personally I'd like to see Bell go and tag Cotchin, Delidio or even Tuck. Has the engine and his size and hardness would worry them.

I think White will play that swingman role. Gives a lot of flexibility.

Obviously you have hunch on Rowe being selected Psych...or you've heard MM say "you're in this week Rowey".
If he is I expect Rowe to be given a block of games.

I really want Bell selected for this game and every game this year (if form permits).
He's the big body (Kouta like) we need in the middle.

If we can have Kreuzer's and Bell's big arses in the midfield when the ball hits the ground, I don't think Cotchin and Martin will get around them.

Kreuzer vs Cotchin vs Murphy.....we win!
