Not easy to totally change the way you have playing for the last 5 years in one preseason. This will take time and MM will weed out the players who won't or can't paly the way he wants them to. Gee I was rapped the way Gibba attacked the ball last night. We may finally see how good he is. He's been wasted in the last few years. Who said he won't get the hard footy. Anyway we couldn't win last night. Can't have Murph winning a Grand Final in his first game as the actual captain.

That incident in the third quarter with Rowe cleaning up a bloke in the marking contest with no real attempt at the ball - wonder if he'll be lucky to get off?

Crunching tackle, Rich was stunned but got back up. Might get a week!

I don't want too take last night's result too seriously but our lack of a key target up forward is still noticeable. Levi can look good at times but is not a game breaker at this stage. Not sure about Hampson. Desperately need someone like Luke Mitchell to come up. I won't even bother with Waite.

Agree on Hampson, he has no idea on how to take a contested mark, or even how to give himself a chance of taking it. He just stands and reaches back for the footy as it goes over his head, even if it is a high bomb, allowing any half-competent defender to easily knock or away. He'll never be a serious key forward option until he learns to do this better.

I reckon there were times last night where it was harder for him to miss the mark than take it, but he still manages to miss it. Hopefully a one off, as he has been improving.

Not worried at all about last night. Looked tired and our delivery into the forward line was extremely poor. Will take us time to get used to game plan and I thought we were leg weary.

Will be freshened up now for Round One.

A couple of points:

1. Murphy has had a poor pre season. Hopefully true form around the corner.
2. Two ruckman rarely work. Not smart, poor defensively and cause confusion inside 50. Also thought Kruezer thrived on carrying load.
3. Walker a worry. Should be more consistent. Doesnt do simple things well. Play HBF when Waite back.
4. Henderson still looks to be suffering from lack of pre season.
5. Duigan was a bit better than past few weeks.
6. Bootsma will get huge benefit from playing in such a game
7. Will be a lot better with Bell, Waite, Laidler, Scotland, Ellard, Garlett in side.
8. Lucas getting better and better
9. Midfield wont be beaten like that again.
10. I rate Brisbane fairly high and they have some real talent who were playing with confidence.
11. Like the way Gibbs is playing.
12. I am hoping Menzel, Graham, McCarthy, Mitchell are pushing into side by mid year.

It will take a while but we will be fine!

..individually i don't think the tall fwd's are that bad, the thing is playing them together without an experienced genuine KPF to direct everyone.. ..the over reliance on waite to be consistently on the park has stalled the club, and now we're left with two soccer converts who came late to footy [hammer/bolt], a state player short term 'fix' in rowe and a player like waite that by coming in and out of the line-up, leaves the fwd kpp structures unsettled..

..this has been my bugbear with the club for a while now, the reluctance to draft kpps until the situation was dire, and then be stuck waiting the neccessary 4/5 years for them to actually come good.. ..unless they're a rookie prospect, then we love 'em..

..it's too early for Bolt to carry the fwd-line, in regards to development and fitness and experience.. ..rowe i have doubts regarding his ability to play a season just yet, waite we know isn't durable, and hammer plays fwd like a ruckman.. ..the sooner watto come son and can release hendo up fwd, the better.. ..cos we can build our fwd-line around Hendo.. ..a rpoper CHF, experienced enough now, with good kpf craft.. ..we just have to settle him fwd, cos we're years behind in regards to kpf development otherwise, and the mids ain't getting younger.. ..we've got our list built a little backwards..

i know its preseason and all that but is hampson ever goin to do anything, some footballers have it easy. he has been at our club bc of his potential, the bloke could have 1 really good season and he will get another 3-4 based on that 1 season, he ends up playing 10 years with 1 good year, wish i was tall and fast

I must of missed Robbos tackle incident. Is he really in danger of a suspension?

And if I may ...

13. Our new coach demonstrated that he's not foolish enough to get a team up for a practise match at the expense
of a thorough preparation for Rnd 1.

Ain't that the truth -just look at performances of the team of the most recent premiership coach - they have hardly won a game this pre-season and were just beaten by probably the worst side going around in Port Adelaide today - lets see how they perform Round 1.

most important to me, was our coach's demeanour, and he clearly wasn't happy. that told me all i needed to know. it was obvious that the plan was not being adhered to.

Lost count of how many entries into forward 50 were shallow and centered. When you play along the boundary the last thing you want to do is give your opposition the chance to use the center corridor from the half back flank.
We need to carry the ball further instead of bombing from the wing.

Don't think we took last night serious but I'm pretty sure we got that wrong.

Our midfield set ups were atrocious at times and whats more frustrating, we didnt do anything to address them until the breaks. We didnt structure up to the strengths of our ruckmen and we allowed the Brisbane mids easy access to the ball. They gave us an enema in the centre square.
The midfield coach needs a kick up the arse and the players should have more scope to alter the structure mid game. If we're cleaned out at any 2 consecutive stoppages, a restructure should be mandatory.
Apart from that, there were lots of positives. Hendo was very solid, as was most of the backline. Lucas is continuing to improve and the ruckmen were good. Hammer dropped a lot of marks but he created plenty of contests and hit some bodies hard which creates plenty of ground bakll opportunities.

I understand we are trialling things but the forward line structure was terrible at the start of the game. Levi, Hammer, White, Gibbs, McLean and Walker. No speed or ground ball ability. Its fine for Mick to make his footprint on the team but its time to settle the side with round 1 up next. We'll be much better with Eddie and Jeff running through there.

He got a fair push in the back when he approached the pack that threw him off his stride. He would easily get off that one.

Obviously a pretty disappointing effort.
Smashed in midfield. Pretty underwhelming preseason from Murph so far. Carrots and McLean (and others) didn't have much impact.
Like last week, a lot of easy rebound goals kicked. I would have thought a strong defensive coach like MM would have been pretty annoyed last week. And even more, seeing it happen 2 weeks in a row.
And speaking of Rowe, can't see Casboult and Rowe in the same team very often. I know we missed Garlett, but not a lot of crumbing or defensive pressure up forward. Increasingly convinced that White will be our other tall, until Waite comes back, or we actually draft an athletic key forward.
I'm sure this will get better with time, but there was an awful lot of bombing it long to outnumbered forwards.
Not really working for Walker at the moment. Probably needs a change of role for a little while.

Positives:
Really pleased with Gibbs and Lucas again.
Thought Simmo never stopped trying. Robbo likewise, although his kicking was pretty poor.
I know our defenders had a lot of opportunity to have an impact, but thought Duigan had his best preseason game. Thought Henderson's form was better than it's been.
Even liked how Casboult continued to present, even though his opponent was best man on the ground.

It seemed week 2 the plan was to look at all the smalls, week3 to look at all the rucks ( no Rowe as Caz) , and week 4 was all the tall forwards together. We haven't shown our strutchere yet. No balanced forward line til round 1(hopefully)
