Good onya Murph...my kids are rapt.

You will be another successful captain at Carlton.

Should see Judd win another Brownlow and flag this year.

I love BIG NICK....so where was the stylist for that photo? Bad form imo...unless he didn't want a jacket.

Having a giggle at those upset with Murph being called soft...

He ain't the softest player out there but at the end of the day you just can't class him as a hard player.....Not far off Gibbs tbh....

Don't agree with you at all, but that's how you feel.

Murphy goes in and gets his own ball ...that's a hard at it player if ever there was one.

No one has any proof that Gibbs is soft or playing to coaches instructions.

He's led the clearances in his 2013 role under a new coach...ie gets his own ball...contested ball...that aint soft.

Perception is reality.

Soft is taking on Dangerfield head to head for a 50/50 and smashing your shoulder as a result?

The kid ain't soft in my eyes.

Ironic that Murphy's first game as captain is against the side that targeted him and ended his debut season in Round 13 of 2006 - with a vicious sling tackle with arm being held by Robert Copeland of the Brisbane Lions- who if he was wearing a blue jumper with number 5 on the back of it would have got at least 4 weeks for but who of course got off scott free  .

Probably cost Murphy the Rising Star award that year - but realistically had no chance with Kevin Bartlett on the judging panel.

Anyway it's payback time Murph so if those pricks at the Lions want to "live by the sword" it's time that they now died by it.

Great, right and long term choice. Smurph will excel in this role.

I would of preferred Carrots but in reality would of been happy with any of Murph, carrots or Simmo.

And Murph did a great job as captain last year, Brock's late goal overshadowed just how big a last quarter/last 10 mins to get us over the line against Richmond.

Calling Murphy soft is just really dumb.

He lacked hardness, was called out on it by his teammates midway through 2010, and changed his attack on the ball the next week.

Was AA in 2011, polled 19 votes in the Brownlow and won the John Nicholls Medal playing a contested brand of football.

Injured last year contesting a hardball with Dangerfield. Looked impressive as captain in Judd's absence last year for 4 weeks

I expect him to step back to AA this season and rise to the challenge of being captain.

I do expect he will be back to his 2011 best, injury permitting.

Especially with a support cast fit and firing.

Yeah, I agree. Just cos you have tattoos doesn't make you soft...... just makes you look soft.

I think towards the end of 2011, he started becoming a bit of a protected specie by the men in white, and started playing for it a bit.

I remember the game against Sydney at Etihad that year, he got a ridiculous amount of frees in that first half. Fast forward to some crucial moments in the Eagles semi when he played for the free rather than ball first were very telling.

If his media outings improve and spends less time tweeting banal tripe for mens' cosmetics or his t-shirt range, I couldn't care less.

Yep.

I was a critic of his early on....he dived and threw his head back quite a bit. Fast forward 3 years and he's not shirking a thing and staying in the contest regardless of what contact he's received. Credit to him, he's worked hard and he's a deserving captain.
