I think there needs to be some kudos given over to Wayne Hughes for the efforts he put in, getting Marc to CFC. A perfectly executed plan to sell the Club to Marc and his family has now given the Blues its next Capt.

Well Done.

We should probably acknowledge a couple of other things too!

1. John Murphy had issues with Fitzroy on departure and has held a grudge ever since.
2. Zoning. John's father, Leo, had won two best and fairests with Hawthorn in the 1930s so they wanted him under the father/son rule but he was zoned to Fitzroy.

Well done Murph.

All good, apart from the fact that Murphy is the softest captain we have had in a long time.....should be much easier to retain his services now.

Soft!! Got to be kidding. Not many players would have hit in hard to Dangerfield like he did and pay the price for it

PRECISELY!!! (Throw The Dominator and Barass in there aswell)

Looking at this photo I strongly believe if you put a Carazzo or a Simpson in front of that group it wouldn't feel right to me.........
as much as I love them, theyre just an ever so-slightly lower calibre for mine (as in 9.5's not an outright 10).

Club got this right.

Murphy fits just right

Give it to Murphy, his contract is about to expire.... ;)

Being captain has never been demonstrated to make much difference in keeping someone at a club.

The story was that he was sent a message via the runner that he needed to be harder at the footy (ie. playing soft footy) and his first contest after that message was the dangerfield one. 8 weeks out is not going to make him full of confidence when playing 'hard footy'

I must agree with the statement from Yazz although i think he'll do a cracking job and was the right choice

So.. you're saying that the right choice was to appoint a bloke who you think is the softest captain we've had in a long time? Just what makes it a good choice appointing a soft captain? I'm really confused by your post!!
