Well Jeff Garlett shouldn't be too worried about that. Even though he did get run down by Fletcher as well last year. He should have run the boundary and he might have got past.
That's why he's there to run and carry and every now and then he's going to get caught.
I'm more worried about the shit kicking for goal in that last quarter. How many easy ones were missed?
Garlett should handpass in front of him if he knows he is getting run down. It is something he should practise at training - even on a wet surface. Wrong decision making from Garlett. Run yes, but be prepared to handpass if the guy is closing.
Umpires - one thing we know is that they will not pay pushing in the back in the forward line. Joseph got shoved out royaly by Johncock and there were about 2-4 incidents on both sides where they just don't pay it in the forward line.
Yarran - is he being wasted in defence?
Could they consider putting Walker in defence for part of a match and Yarran as a wing/hf for parts? frees him up.
Yarran just doesn't put enough physical pressure on his opponent, and I think he is more damaging when kicking goals. His goals are real team lifters.
Yarran - the goal in 1st qrt to Taylor Walker. Yaz had an opportunity to smother this, but instead hesitated. That split second hesitation cost him an opportunity to get close enough to smother. He won't tackle around the hips. Defensive pressure just wanting a bit.
Warnock- not sold on.
Hampson - perhaps.
The 3 man ruck set up - we tried this all last year. IT DOESN'T WORK. Please
do not pick 3 ruckmen ever in a game again. It defeats our run, we played better with Kreuzer in the ruck-no Hampson and Warnock. Can't have two/three specialist ruckmen in game (for the most part). 1 ruckmen and back up ruckmen/forwards is better. One of the players in the ruck has to be good enough as a forward...but tbere is no justification for 3 rucks in a match.
Great to see Lucas have a good game. That was the one positive for me out of the game.
