I feel that Mick has told Luke to work on a couple aspects of his game (defensive side especially) before he warrants any chance of selection.

Mitchell also didn't quite impress this off-season in the manner he did last season.
Has his head in the right place even though he may not have liked the snack in the mouth, but it will ultimately do him good.

Not unhappy for Mitchell and McCarthy to be shelved for the best part of this year, while training them up for next year. The guys have just turned 21.
They're both quality players and quality individuals. They'll be fine.

Good post Harker. For Mitchell & McCarthy, 2013 is about getting some continuity/consistency in the VFL. If they can both put together 18 solid VFL games each and 1 or 2 AFL 'tastes' I think that would be considered a success.

Mitchell is well behind Casboult, Rowe & Hammer at this stage. Let him develop his game at the lower level while the others get the chance to show what they can do.

McCarthy is an interesting one because I'm not sure what his position is going to be. My gut feeling is that he'll never be a genuine KP. He really doesn't play as tall as he is (if you know what I mean). Has played his best footy as a HF/Winger type, but can he play that role at AFL level? Can he make himself into a CHB? Mmmm. He needs another year, at least, working on his game in the VFL away from the intense spotlight IMO.

Last year of contract for both. If Port come knocking for McCarthy - I'd suggest we'd lose him for nothing. Big years for both boys. Hopefully Paddy in particularly can made the selectors notice.

I don't think that's right.

McCarthy, Mitchell, McInnes and Watson were from the 2010 draft and given 2 years as per standard.

Would have all signed new contracts last year...........tenure unknown.

Just had a slightly deeper look at the Adelaide squad. They are pretty much at full strength. Obviously they got a major rocket after the Geelong game and Sanderson has thrown down the gauntlet to the core group to show something.

If we get over them tonight it will be a very good performance.

This!

It's almost worth not winning this week just to avoid the spotlight.

But wait, that's match fixing... or tanking... Brock will need to just keep his mouth shut :)

With Mick at the helm this year there will be no way possible of avoiding the spotlight.

We will be a news item all year.

Win, and Mick's a legend, well done Carlton. Lose, and enjoy pissing yourself laughing at Carlton, will they sack Mick?

Hot and very humid in Adelaide at the moment. Will be very draining on players tonight. No need to play our experienced players for extended periods of time.

Port were interested in McCarthy last year, yet he signed on again.

It's a little odd that we've only been advised of a few signings last year and have little idea what was offered to:
Laidler, Watson, McCarthy, McInnes, Mitchell, Duigan and Curnow

At best guess the first 5 would have been given 2 years, with Duigan and Curnow only one (Curnows could only be one anyway, as last year on rookie list)

Their forward line looks far less menacing without Tippet, I'd back our team defense to limit the damage a Walker centric forward line can inflict.

Don't know where our goals will come from, hate the idea of using our rucks as key forwards, really think it was one of the main reasons we struggled last year. With Rowe and Levi rested, leaves a lot to ask of Hammer and Krueze. I'm hoping we only pay Hammer up there, with Walker out of the square and then try to win it through the smalls breaking free. Not the ideal set up, but a handy plan B.

Get on the phone. It doesn't take long to find out.

Even if they're not showing it, tell them that you'll come down if they put it on for you. Works for me just about every time.
