Another area in regards to fan interaction would be giving members an incentive to log in to the site every week.

Similar to TC's MVP. Perhaps a phantom B & F of the members? "Loyalty" points that can be acrued as you log in each day, which can be cashed in for something? Merchandise discount?

Their online renewal system is hopeless.

+1 for too many bloody hats. I just moved house recently. Reckon at the end of it, I threw out a boxload of Carlton hats, scarves and lanyards from eons ago. Shouldn't be too hard to work into the software a box that they've received a hat within the past X years. I understand the need to ensure that Carlton members are wearing gear that reflects our latest and greatest partners and sponsors, but Nike, Mars and Hyundai have been pretty much the status quo for a few years now.

The club should be commended for heeding the call to have interstate games shown at PP on the big screen. Hopefully they're tidy revenue raisers.

I think however there is potential to not only expand this idea, but also make the divide between these games being targeted towards families, and then also taking advantage of the number of Carlton pubs around Melbourne, to organise "official Carlton gameday pubs" also. The Great Northern and Percy's are obvious ones, as well as the pubs containing "our" pokies. I'm sure there are plenty of Carlton supporting publicans happy for the advertising on the website/mass emails, in exchange for discounted beers for members and maybe a pokie voucher or two on the night. Send down an injured player or an ex-Carlton great also?

I thought the Melbourne Stars did their season launch in Richmond very well also. Was well attended, organised and had a good vibe to it. Why not have a season launch in the city for one of our interstate NAB Cup games? Few beers, the game on a big screen, Carlton people, and of course a membership table.

I lost my favourite Carlton hat in a bar in StKilda after a game. It was a ripper hat with the logo and a small sponsor logo on the back. Nothing about membership years or anything. I htink I got it in a package years ago before they wrote the year of membership on it. Anyway I never did get it back, despite being the last person in the bar and ringing up at opening time to see if the cleaner had found it. I give hats to my mexican family. One cousin loves baseball-style hats and proudly wears his Carlton cap because itis unique here. Moral: You can never ave too many hats!

I think that's a great post and really worth consideration by the Club. Sounds like you and I have a similar membership profile going back in my case to the early 70's.
I also love the way you didn't spell 'arse' 'ass'.
Let's maintain the Queen's English as long as we can hold out against the Americanization of Australia.
Because you spelt 'arse' correctly I won't point out that algorithms has an 'h' in it. Hehe.

Wouldn't that be 'Americanisation' in Australia?[/quote]

I do admire your attention to detail, Moshe!
Yes it probably would be but I'm not in Australia. I'm Australianizing Mexico.

Thanks Donstuie,

Last night I listed all of the feedback received. Tomorrow I will be making an appointment to see Clinton Bown. Please let me tell you all - I understand. Notwithstanding the business of AFL football requires a strong business focus, we remain a "members' club". Each 10,000 members equates to approximately $1,500,000+. That means that 10,000 members can be the difference between making a profit and a loss. I acknowledge, having been on the board for the last 6 years, that as a Club, we need to embrace our supporters better than we have done. In all things, there must be compromises. The AFL controls so much of what the clubs can do. For example, I have three kids but can only have a family membership that comprises 2 adults and 2 kids. This means I have always had to buy an individual membership for one of my children. I have asked why? I don't have an issue paying the additional amount for a family membership of 5. However, our membership processes and indeed our website, are controlled by the AFL. If you go to another website (a friend of mine showed me the Hawks website the other day because it was about Rats introducing some new training methods) you will notice the background music is exactly the same as you hear on our videos.

I have no doubt that as we approach the end of the current Etihad contract, the Club will push for more games at the MCG (I am sure we would all applaud such an outcome). The AFL is contracted to play a certain number of games at Etihad. This will play a part in any negotiations for seasons beyond 2014.

I make no promises as to whether the Club will adopt some or many of the suggestions you have made but I can promise you I will take each and everyone up with Clinton and I will report back to you. Clinton "gets" it - he is responsible for achieving certain KPIs and membership numbers is one of those. I have no doubt I will get a fair hearing and look forward to reporting back to you all.

Cheers

Stephen

There's still a lot of disenfranchised ex members out there, all because of the club's enforced displacement of their family's seating.

Splitting up families is not a good idea.
There should be some sort of effort to get the seating right once and for all and move from there.

If all members and ex members are given an opportunity to be seated together within the Carlton family, I'm sure this would be the line in the sand many would be grateful for.

I haven't bought my memberships, so there's another 10 or more to add to the list.

If we can just win the first 3 on a trot with the new Captain and coach, and get the players to personally call all lapsed members, I'm sure we can get to 50K. It will take a effort, but a focussed effort, not adhoc attempts like the past.

10% up on same time last year, not throat slitting time by any means....we were talking it up last year too....

The first 5 weeks will be a guide as to whether 50k is reachable.
