I would've loved to have seen all those invited board members over the last 1/2 dozen years actually challenge the incumbents at elections on the back of solid ideas and plans with substance. A transparent competition of policy if you like that involved the membership.

But the easy way was taken. Soft & arrogant, IMO.

there has been no apology.

And why would i believe guys who have been there for a long time in a pretty big number.. will get it right when they havent till now?
Usually... in a business like this.. they all get the sack .. and new anagement comes in to restructure...

Ask Mathieson what he does when he t akes over a pub....

Or ask around and see what Sayer did when he took over.....

Eddie had a real cleanout...

you cannot turn shit into strawberry jam...

I'll put my hand up first and say that I don't get overly engaged in these type matters.

1. Because previously I didn't think my say would count for anything.
2. Even if it did, my interest levels never peaked in the running of "our" club. My time really allowed me only the game-day.

The apology came by way of recognition of some of the errors of the past, even if it wasn't a knees-on-salt moment.
I'm not big on sorry's anyway. Just tell me you're going to do something and go out and do it. Show me the money.
This thread is about Ruffy and some initiatives taken up by the CFC. We'll see whether the lines of communication remain open and whether change ensues.

"Why wouldn't one get it right now when they could have before"?

I don't know for sure, but comes a time that you have to admit that the old way is now the wrong way. Happens to all of us at some time or another.
What is it exactly that we're pining for the board to do anyway?
I just want the operation to be profitable, forward-thinking, successful and respected. Can these people not deliver us this and if not who can?

youre a good man and a good carlton guy...

Look i really have a real problem with the unaccountability this board has shown.

The Ratten thing is classic.

Theyre tried to get Roos and Malthouse (knowing there are ??????????????? over Ratten)... they dont get either... so instead of having an analysis on the coach they have question marks on.. they sign him for a further 2 years.. com plete with the teak knive assistants...
Were flying by round 3 and there is a heap of backslapping...from there it goes belly up... half way through the year.. alot of guys want Ratts sacked.. but cant do that to a fave son.. and also cos they only just signed him up..
So we go through a shit season.... where a whole heap of things go pear shaped.. we limp to the end of the year... and promise Ratts he is coach till after season review.. meanwhile we already have MM.. and everyon e knows excet Ratts... but deep in his heart he does too...
Anyway they gotta throw him under the bus.. before the review he was promised mind you...and Sticks are the presser.. tells us what a fantastic coach Ratts is.. and how its the harderst thing he has ever had to do... stopping just short of a real sob for Ratts...
Meanwhile... we pay him out his assistants... and blah blah blah.....
.....VFL coach was part time.. (saving money there i suppose). but the sacked coaches brigade arent happy.. we try to come to arrangements with some.... conflict about the wording of the contracts with others...
.... hundreds of thousands of dollars pissed up against the wall in this one episode of poor judgemet all round...
.....Then we have DOC telling us... (And i want him to clarify what he is hes saying.... WE will be moving to the G...if we get 60,000 members.. its chinese whispers to him... hes saying it..or someone has asked him to tell us that...??

Well either way it s a ploy that has nothing to do with rectifying problems like the above going forward..... and it is about finding money to compensate the goings on... which could have gone into the debt or any other sector...

There is no clear direction this club has taken .. or is taking.. and yet.. DOC is telling us the direction we should take.. is sign up so we move to the G....

Now how does he know this when Germinder evades that question....???

So i anwer what i think is wrong with the club by giving one example only... i can go on and on....

And now i want DOC to clarrify the MCG thing....

Is this club policy????

If so why is DOC the mouthpiece????

If its not.. why is DOC using this as a membership signing game breaker???

We all loved the arrogance when things were moving along nicely, but now we hate it.
Arrogance is so passe.

Question:
What is the template for our board and how do all the links connect?

You can become arrogant / confident when youre good.
Were no good.. but we have arrogance that exists only in our memory banks.
When we becoem good we can be arrogant.

When youre dumb and arrogant youre laughed at...

Just getting bac to this MCG thing... i believe the club doesnt say it cos they dont want to be held to it on record.. we only like to go to record about winning 20 by 2020....

We say alot of things...... Moulton and Harrison were going to raise millions..
Smorgyville.
Floating the club to some kind of shares.. Marcus Rose brainiac idea....

But noone actualy does any basics ... start with a foundation.. put in the cornerstones.. and build something magnificent...

Its all donations and smoke and mirrors.. and now DOC muddying the waters some more... (There has to be 20 people who might buy a membership cos we sprook the G one)

Exactly why is that???

Give us reasons.....

"We dont move to the MCG- we lose our club forever"

Huge statement.. actually you go further than DOC...

Now facts and figures...

I'll tell you why Synbad.

1. Membership numbers not growing at Etihad. Won't grow. Our supporters don't like the ground and refuse to accept it.
2. Match payments. Non-existent and losing more and more by the season.
3. We are killing our players every year by playing more and more games on that ground.

Just my top 3.

The other question is, are we reaching out to supporters to become members because there's been a change in communications and we added a couple of new board members so we've realised the error of our ways, or did we realise we actually need 60,000 members to move to the MCG and start thinking '@#$%&! how do we manage that? We're not going to have to grovel to supporters again and trick them into thinking we actually value them'?

Supporters will run the other way the moment they believe they are having the micky taken out of them....

The CEO and the boaard needs to work hard .. and be smart... and turn the club into a club again.

How they do that??.. thats their job

Can ia sk why we have just as many boaard members as squad members when they cant get the basicss right??

Well we do know.. its nice to be on the board... even nicer if a flag falls from Mt Olympus and hits you on the head...
If you believe that might happen.... which is what we have been believing.. we have rocks in our heads.

Just look around at the competition.. and the people who have taken us to mediocre should be believed without question that theyre going to take us back up to the top???

George harris made Carlton from mid 60s on... not because he worried about what footy was like up to ww2.. but because he had a vision for the next 30 years and he was one smart ruthless and tough bastard...

And he worked very hard to make sure we got to the top.
Most of us on here only know a super succesful Carlton side till prior to a decade or so ago.. but it wasnt how it was for the previous 20 years.

The presidents honour board might show Harris and Kernahan....but

Harris was no Sticks....!!!

Chalk and Cheese - Essendon* and Carlton.

1. Their ground. Members acceptance.
2. Best deal and all merchandise, etc.
3. Huh .... anyone notice the injuries to Essendon* & Saints players during critical times of the season?

I'm not going to get into another discussion over this with you Synbad but enjoy CFC at etihad as another also ran if you wish but don't come in here crying about the club every 2nd then if you don't accept current situations for what they are then.

we won't get more than 50k at etihad, so this is an excuse by our club admin because they cannot get us to the G and are using the members/supporters as an out clause. Quite pathetic really.

nah mate - just calling it like it is.
Hopefully the admin is smart and can get us out, else we are flowered forever. Unfortunately will become just another AFL club with little resemblence of our past.

Youre complaining about what exactly Surrey?
Crowds???

You wanted us to play in front of 28k at PP

You even beieved the Pratts will build you a brand spanking new stadium.....

Our chance for all this was 20 years ago before we built the stand....ARROGANCE!!!....we had the chance at being anchor tena nt at the G and said no... we built the monstrosity instead.

Whats our debt???

We are another AFL club Surrey... sorry to break this to you... but the VFL died around our second last premiership year which is a long time ago...

Third.. we have more pressing issues than going to the G....we dont have the basics right.. so how will the G save us?

Fourth and most salient...were never going to get all of our home games at the G..... this is the bit that escapes you and DOC.. we might get two more played at the G.... hardly life altering stuff is it???

You see.. the improvement of the club will not come from going to China.. or playing 2 more at the G...

It will come first from within and how you treat your people.
Second.. wth inovation .. and with that will come success....

... and maybe an extra 2 games at the G for you....

If you guys beieve were gunna play 11 home games at the G- i have a bridge to sell you...

Like i said... Talk and tease...

Arent you sick of that already????

Geelong is a cashed up 28K. I'd take that!
Sadly I do agree with on that we are another club currently and will probably never be the club we were.
Sadly our kids will neve enjoy the Navy Blue club we enjoyed either. That is the saddest part and your right, Im over it and have been for a few years now. Unfortunately but certaintly frustrated by some of our supporters and club overall who don't and won't see it.

You're getting a little silly now Synbad. You know the answers. No conspiracies here - it is what it is. Perhaps you've repeated yourself so many times that you forget...or perhaps you don't read thoroughly enough. Tell you what...you either use the search function on this site and read my previous posts or you can text me. You have my number - stop playing funny buggers. No more circular arguments. The answers to your questions have already been answered.
