My thoughts are that it is a great effort by the club to have this.

The poor turn out is really disapointing, those that like a good whinge but didn't go shows that they are more hot air than 'taking action' type people.

Thanks for the review doc

Too true. People are simply too busy this time of year. I imagine if they held it a week or two prior to the season starting, fans would get caught up in the excitement and jump at the opportunity to mix with various levels of management from the club and find out what’s going on.

Great report Doc, thanks for the info.

Was planning on going but got caught up elsewhere, sorry I missed it. Would love to hear what the Club took away from the night.

Your absence was noted Caz. To be honest - I think next time it might even be better to have an informal agenda. e.g Luca sends out invite and then fields some questions via his email that he can bounce off the group 10 days later. There is a lot of planning happening for 2014 (150th anniversary) so they're keen for supporters to brainstorm ideas and throw them out there.

Look - pure and simple, I want my club to be an MCG club. There are some apathetic supporters out there. I'm probably one if I look hard enough in the mirror. I might look at things a little differently than the average supporter, but how's the guilt trip going to be when in 10 years time I'm nearing in on 50 - taking my kids to the footy - and we're still playing a home game against the Cats at Etihad? So in essence - the time to act is now. The club need to sell that message. How they do it is up to them - but I'd lay it on thick. We want Carlton to be an MCG club. The only way to do that is convince the AFL that we're too big for Etihad. 60,000 is the magic number. Yep - it's a numbers game.

I have a family, friends, I work (you know that Synners) - so did the other people who attended. And it's not really Christmas. It's sacrificing a couple of hours on a Tuesday night.

Some spend hours on here making post after post after post, yet can't spare a couple of hours for something that is supposedly so important to them, why am I saying this? Because it get tiresome reading the same complaints on here over and over yet not using this opportunity to address the club on them.

Well done to those who did go though.

People making the same complaints on here over and over again - get tired of having to make them because the club never do anything about them.

If the club havent got the message after 10 years - then one focus group on a Tuesday night isnt going to sort it out.

The Club needs to demonstrate it is listening to its members - and in particular it needs to demostrate its listening to its supporters - it will only be then that those supporters may convert to membership.

As was said earlier a Premiership is not the solution to our problem - its only solving our problems that will lead to a Premiership.

Nah...I work smarter, not harder. Early logon from the home office...Siesta at 1pm...back at it again around 3...4pm. 4 day working week.

It wasn't just about media. It was about communication and communicating. If you want them to communicate better - then you have to come up with a wishlist of how you' like to be communicated to (as opposed to excommunicated for us Catholics). Some of it might be doable - some of it might not be...but until you ask it directly - you'll never know. Now - the guy who annoyed the hell out of me for years (Ian Coutts) is gone. I do hold some CEO's responsible for not realising that the club needed to get its act together in this department and the decision to give him the arse has come at least 5 years too late. But it's happened now and there are (seemingly) blue skies ahead. You have two choices. Contribute or complain. I've complained for too long.

Let me get this straight.
People dictate what i do with my time.
How i spend Christmas as well as Easter.
I must punch into TC.
And it's not about the media going forward.

Also some people have the luxury of working smarter not longer.
But the rest of us must do as they do .

Personally i couldnt be buggered going cos of a few reasons.
Im sure Doc and Co flew the flag.

Geeeez some people.

Whether you like it or not - you're the biggest advocate for change on this forum. I don't think anyone wants to dictate what you do with your time, but if you're passionate enough and want to see some changes made - I'd encourage you to write your thoughts down and send them on in. There's a window of opportunity there with Coutts gone. There are plenty of changes that need to occur. Let's get the ball rolling externally to what we do on here or over dinner.

The membership slogan of 'We Are the Navy Blues' for 2014 is a bit meh!! Wasnt that the slogan from 2008 that I still see rolling around on the side of Visy trucks ?

It's not the slogan, it's what you do with it. If you create a campaign that really makes people feel like they can be part of something exciting, meaningful, etc... it'll work. If it's just those words with 3 carlton players standing with their arms crossed looking all blue-steel, it'll do nothing.

"Side by Side" is a bit meh too. But it's what you do with it that counts.

All a slogan can really do is simply and meaningfully represent what the brand stands for, and promises. It's the total expression of that slogan, through the way the brand behaves and interacts with its audience, that is the important thing.

And we had a representatives of the PRatt ask us what our grievances were in here.

Double handling?

I suspect the board/management know exactly what the mainstream supporter base want and how they want to be treated.

And if they don't, that's one hell of a bubble they're living in.

Enough lip service.

They actually are a bit in a bubble and are trying to get out of it. And I think they are serious this time. I've got an invite for a coffee from the GM Membership to elaborate on some points I raised. I think they are trying now.

Yep...I'd agree. I've mentioned elsewhere that it's one thing for the footy department to create a bubble, but I think it spread a little too big across the footy club; Ratts and Coutts in particular. So the new 'digital innovation' team (Ian Coutts will not be replaced) - are trying to get out of the bubble. And I think the board are probably taking a bit of a lead off of a proactive bunch of people.
