He isn't going anywhere inside of the next 2 years.

Brilliant stuff that he relinquishes all involvement.

He gets to enjoy and do the best at what he loves to do.....play football prosessionally and get the best out of himself.

His infleunce on the group remains the same, yet at the same time forces others to stand up and shine.

We'll find others surprise us. I like Carrots as an option, but the likes of a Laidler also makes sense.

Mick is already having an influence. And heck if he could win a flag with Maxwell as captain things are looking up for the BlueBoys!

Looks genuinely excited and rejuvenated!

Might stick around after his contract is up after all.

I would have thought it'd be easier for the next captain if Judd isn't in the leadership group. He casts a big shadow and the new captain needs to be able to do his stuff without the rest of the leadership group turning to Judd whenever something comes up.

Sad day, but I guess I'll get over it when Murph or Carrazzo holds the premiership cup aloft on GF day.

Will still reserve the biggest cheer for Juddy, from this day forth our new "spiritual" leader.

Just watched the vid. Got the same impression.

One last year of Juddy then. Hopefully he learns how to kick

I couldn't give a stuff how he interviews. Chris is a pretty laid back individual off the field anyway by all reports.

I'm much more interested in seeing how he plays now that the shackles of leadership have been removed. A position he has never sort in the past anyway, but basically inherited it by default. He will continue to lead by example on the field (apart from those silly brain fades) and would be the mentor that every other club, coach, and player would move heaven and earth to have for their team.

Judd had already handed in his captaincy at Arizona, which leaves Brock in the clear for his comments last week.

That's what I've always thought. I didn't thikn he was a footyhead and he'd just depart.

Then I went to the footy with someone who claimed to be a financial associate of Judd who represented that he thought Judd would keep playing as he loved the game (just not the profile). He thought Judd would keep going until the body gave in.

Waite isnt leadership material.
Duigan might be but will he hold his spot?

I remember one of our VFL stalwarts (Wiggins?) was in our leadership group. Not sure how successful that was though.

I just hope that whoever takes over the captaincy becomes the boss. The new boys in particular are going to gravitate towards Juddy, not to mention a lot of the guys already there who are reliant on Juddy to set the example. The new captain needs to be THE LEADER, not just the guy who tosses the coin. Moving Juddy out of the leadership group could be a great success or a massive failure, and it all depends on what happens above the shoulders of the guys there (given our recent track-record, this leaves me sceptical).

In short though, this can't just be about taking the heat off Juddy. How many decisions have we seen this club make because of Juddy? We recruit players "to help Juddy", we demand improvement from our next tier "to take the heat off Juddy", we don't need a proper marketing/membership campaign because "we've got Juddy", Ratts' in the coach's box "don't worry the champ's got it", and now we're fishing for a new captain not because we've got immediate replacements demanding it, but because once again "Juddy needs help".

This has to be about players rising to the challenge as though he weren't even there. Hopefully leaving him out of the leadership group and him becoming "just another player" will be enough to knock a bit of sense into those who have been cruising for too long and force them to step up.

I can understand Duigan. While on-field he may be hot and cold, off the field I don't think the club could have a better ambassador and communicator.

Waite on the other hand, I'm not so sure about. To me, he symbolises everything that's good and bad about this team in one package. Gifted athlete and highly skilled, but inconsistent and poor concentration. I think more than ever our leaders need to be consistent performers with level heads who always give 100%. At this point, I don't see Waite as that guy.

Apparently McKay shed some light on how the leadership group was chosen on SEN. Did anyone catch it?
