Hey - we ought to be giving something back to the Suns!

If not for them Ratts could still be coaching Carlton!!

Good analysis, I love anything that unwinds the dastardly attempts of the governing classes to manipulate the masses. GWS should offer a 'Club Support' package like the AFL Does so you could be a GWS member but follow Carlton!!

Why oh why don't they let members make a voluntary gift to a player of their choice (or random) when paying their membership. Would help lock in the players and also might be outside the salary cap.

I'm sure that happens unofficially of course, all the time. I'd be seriously surprised if the paper-bag-in-the-locker-after-the-game has entirely disappeared either.

Just be a suit like me Doc - enjoy the medallion club / access 1, corporate & live FTA access. That’s what the system is designed for these days. Use the system they say!

No...that's not going to happen. Either $1,000 or $2,500 joining fee! $4,000 if I want a little TV on my seat? WTF? It ain't that special!! This is about economical value. It proves that you can put an actual price on loyalty. It proves that membership departments are out of touch with the reality of the supporter.

Not to mention the absurdness of a Carlton supporter saving an extraordinary amount of money to watch his club play football yet not a cent would go to the football club he actually supports!

I've been on the 'Help Me Decide' part of the Carlton membership page recently...not because I intended to purchase a membership, but I wanted to see what option was the best for me should I decide to put it on the Christmas list. To be honest - I couldn't find value for money nor any membership option that suited me. Sure - I could fork out $80 bucks and buy a 3-gamer, but I think I'd wanna go more than three times. I also detest Etihad. It's an easy drive/train ride from my house but I love going to the 'G. I could also fork out the coin to continue my AFL membership, but in 2013, that's not value for money either.

The problem is alleviated with a Victorian Gold Coast Suns membership. Yes...you read right - a Victorian Gold Coast Suns membership. For $20 bucks a month I get entry into the AFL Reserve for all GC SUNS away matches played at Etihad Stadium or the MCG. That doesn't really help me - I have no interest in watching the Suns play footy - but the Suns only play 4 matches in Victoria next season. I could also get entry to additional matches at the MCG in the AFL Reserve (excluding ANZAC Day) to make up an 11 game membership. So that's 7 of Carlton's 8 games at the MCG covered. I would also get entry to two home games at Metricon Stadium with access to General Admission seating on Level 1 - so there's Carlton's away game against the Suns at Metricon covered as well! Plus...I get this cooler!

Image

So let's recap...

7 Carlton games at the MCG in the AFL Reserve
4 GC SUNS matches played @ Etihad / MCG
1 Carlton game vs GC @ Metricon Stadium
1 Cooler

Total = $215

Am I right in saying the best Carlton 11 game membership I could get (as a Melbourne residing adult with no concession and sitting in half decent seats) would set me back $460?

I haven't done it yet...but I have to say - at $17.91 a game - it is very tempting and certainly the best value for money I could find. 'Go Suns' :?:

Why don't you contact the club and alert them to this?
Their reply would be fascinating.

It's worth it just for the cooler!

I wonder if the cooler is 'ill fitting'

i bet if Carlton made one it wouldnt be the right size and would only be big enough to fit something stupid like 5 1/2 beers instead of 6

just like a normal person cant fit their whole head into our caps

I'm pretty sure I have seen Mathew Watson wear them at training throughout the year......Just trying to visualize your head!

Just for clarity, was Watson wearing the cooler or hat?

Those Lanyards were great invaders. Cortez in particular.

Not sure what their reply would be to be honest, but don't see much point. It's not as though they are offering a 'get a better deal somewhere else? We'll not only match it - we'll beat it by 10%!' deal...although wouldn't it be lovely if that were the case. Wouldn't you love to get a call as a lapsed member and instead of the voice on the other end of the phone asking you to buy a $200 raffle ticket, they were asking how they could get you back to the club as a member? I would...but I'd have to negotiate the terms of my membership. It'd probably have to match the Gold Coast offer though.

...and a cooler.
