On Friday November 22, 2002, the AFL announced that the Carlton Football Club had been found guilty of ‘deliberate, elaborate and sophisticated’ breaches of the Salary Cap, a key equalisation policy of the national code. A series of fines and draft restrictions were imposed on the Club, including but not limited to the loss of the first 2 picks in the 2002 National Draft which had been viewed by suffering Carlton fans as some form of silver lining to our first ever Wooden Spoon. Understandably, the day would come to be known by some Carlton fans as ‘Black Friday’.

Can we now change the name "Black Friday" to something a little more catchy like um...I don't know..."Click Frenzy" maybe....?

I think if you change it to:

On Saturday morning (2am) 23rd November 2002 it is more accurate.

Well remembered CK95.

Living through the experience online via TBV will remain etched in my mind forever.

When shall we start playing silly games to kill the time until 2am? :P

Maintain the rage a disgraceful performance from all involved from the paper bag elliott regime to the duplicitous AFL

We as supporters/members should never again let an administration at carlton do this - we must always ask questions

We should never trust Demetriou did a deal with Collo and then reneged - tried to kill us off - never forgive him and any opportunity we should shaft him

Both had no regard for the supporters and members who they penalised so harshly

The AFL will mark the occasion by looking the other way while other clubs opening flaunt their rules and the "spirit of the game"

Ridiculous night. Living in Adelaide, so was relying on updates from anyone with Vic radio. News came through, and it had to be confirmed by about 4 or 5 posters before I actually believed it. As AGRO often points out, penalty announcement was around 2am Saturday with the draft then held the next day.

Was it Gerard Healy that first stated in would put us back 10 years? Well here we are.

To be honest without going over old ground it really was the drafts previous (in particular 1999-2001) and following (2004) that did as much damage.

Even with the sanctions in 2002/2003 we managed to secure French, Simpson, Fisher, Scotland, Stevens, Walker and Teague from the combined penalised drafts which was better than a lot of our hauls around that time.

Tony shaw was the only non Carlton person in the beginning I come out and say the penalty was harsh.

Every man and his dog is coming out in support of Adelaide this time round. I'll be filthy if they get anything less then us.

A question about the blueseum link above. It states that Essendon* only broke the cap in 92, 94-96. Where is the source for that. I thought it was stated as 92-96 everywhere else I have read.

The problem was that the club was already shambolic at the time and the the penalities were just the final kick in the head that knocks out the bash victim that's crawling along on their hands and knees.

And the Pagan years perpetuatated the problem by drafting older hacks rather than just trying kids. It wasn't until the last few years that we started some form of internal development process (I know you argue how well it has been done).

I think the various administrations we had over the past decade had had the kahunas to bite the bullet earlier then the period of pain would have been much less.

There's no suggestion the Crows have gone anywhere near orchestrating the same sophisticated process of breaching the salary cap as the John Elliott administration at Carlton

Can someone explain how our breches were sophisticated?

They were super sturdy brown paper bags. Not the type you'd just buy off the shelf at Coles. Probably even had Visy make them especially for the purpose.

And so say all of us.

Well done Browny...and @#$%&! you Demetriou...you tried to kill off Carlton along with Evans pulling your strings, who along with Samuels is a corrupt white colar prick.

I will not forget.

Essendon* got off easily for their transgressions between 92-96 where they wlaso stole our cup in '93.

AFL = Double standards.
