Maybe there was confusion from so many messages, often conflicting, to the players from the amount of assistant coaches so maybe Mick is 'bucking the trend' for good reason, maybe it's just a pissing contest trend and maybe it's more suited to inexperienced coaches such as Ratten, Buckley, Hird etc.
How many assstant coaches did the Premiers Sydney have?: six, and they were the best drilled and organised unit going around making sugar out of shit and all that.
Carlton under Ratten had eight. Now we have four..I think.., but probably end up with five.
Maybe he thinks this year we need to clear the headspace of the players.
He is an experienced coach and unless Mick is worried and desperate for more coaches then let him do without why worry.
Bodies for Bodies sake does nothing just add cost and noise in the players heads.

Currently have 5, but we might get a 6th.

Once they came over to the good guys they became OUR dogs!!! Same with MM. He's ours, so stop dissing him.

Collingwood !!! Richmond !! Malthouse! Its different to the others. Its more more like Mcguane and Mckenna. It just doesnt feel right to me.
I was around for Parkin, Rhys and Val and this is completely different for me.

I hope it comes to a swift end sooner rather than later. I have my fingers crossed that family pressure or his heart not being in it ends it quickly.

P.S. this is my thing i am not trying to get others to feel the same although i suspect many do.

Some may feel somewhat uncomfortable for having Malthouse right now, but what will any of that matter if our standards rise and results improve?

He's just a man in a job and all I care for is that he does his job well and if you're reading anything more than that into it, you're doing it wrong.

If the situation was as bad as some make it out to be, wouldn't you think that there would be at the very least one required player that would have wanted out during this trade period?.....

To some, how you go about achieving matters - that's neither right or wrong

As long as it's not another Pagan experience. This time next year will be interesting to see where people inside and outside of the club stand.

I'm not sure why, but I don't barrack for a coach.
You want a solid representative there no doubt, but the only measure for his role is on-field performance although I think we'll get a little more value than just that.

If we're all talking to one another at the CFC, than we're some way in front already.
Sick of hearing for any petulant in-fighting which does nothing but harm the progress of whole.

Sheedy on the other hand...

Zing!

Although, my feelings towards Mick have come pretty close to hate at times.

This is a results business and if Mick gets on a roll and hopefully bags us a flag, I expect most people will look beyond their personal feelings towards him.

I take some comfort from GWS. I reckon they've shown the right stuff under Sheedy* ... I would've put him in the self-interested, way-past-it-old-fool category.

He surprised me and I hope MM does too.

* I know Choco played a major role, but ultimately it was up to Sheedy to decide who played what roles.

Well we know Murphy, Gibbs, Betts, Simpson, Scotland, McCarthy and Buckley all have.

Previous years we've had O'hAilpin, Bower, Thornton, Russell when they were required as well as Jacobs, Grigg, Walker all wanting out.

You can't tell me that if we had guys looking for a trade this year that the anti-MM crew wouldn't be using that as an indication of the players dissatisfaction with the appointment?

The best assistant coaches are ambitious and driven.
They're reluctant to coach under someone who wants total control.

When you consider the number of Mick's assistants that have gone on to get senior jobs, that comment is just irrelevant.
By my count it's 5 current AFL senior coaches.
I think if I was ambitious I'd want to follow a pathway that has been successful in the past.

Ambition is about wanting to be successful as a coach, not simply wanting to land a job.
The Port job showed coaches are more discerning now than they were previously. 5 years ago every assistant coach would have jumped at any opportunity.
O"Bree will have more control over his line at Geelong and more opportunity to grow as a coach. I'd suggest that's why he ditched us for the Cats after agreeing to join us.
Just my opinion.
