..hmmm, interesting with saints regarding Knockers.. ..they're after a ruck as back-up for McEvoy.. ..Knockers has signed this year, so we can't force him out, he has to agree.. ..so not only do they need to make us as a club happy, but they need to pay big bucks to make Knockers go there, especially to be a back-up ruck.. ..he came to us to get 1st ruck duties, can't see him leaving when he doesn't need to purely for 2nd string rucking..

Looks like Saints sabre-rattling had the desired effect and they have managed to get the deal done with GCS for Hickey. Perhaps Warnock was genuinely an option for them or maybe just the threat to get GCS over the line.

Still, they parted with their first rounder albeit with some swapsies later on, so basically GCS got what they were after.

THIS - is the biggest problem with the club right now.

That's only the case in less than, say, 40% of the complaints.

It's about getting rid of a few more players that don't make the club any better and investing in the draft and also making some use of free agency. People know that these arguments have been the main focus, particularly lately, but still choose to rave on about the 'trade for trading's sake' chestnut. Psych is just hypo and a few others have chirped in here and there, but that's it.

Not sure what you mean by that. According to the dictionary, hypo is a prefix meaning under, defective or inadequate. So are you saying that Psych is under, defective, or inadequate?

Or do you mean Psych is a hippo? If its that, then I'd say well, he's no Twiggy, but that's a little overstated. In fact I'd call that hyper-bole.

I actually meant Hyper as in hyperactive. Anyway, we should hush, he's even more sensitive than I am, even though I'm only playing.

If you read between the lines....we couldn't do much because of contracts and salary cap constraints.

Have a look at the list of trades/ FA deals done.

If there isn't a player or 2 or 3 Carlton would have desired/wished it could snare then those who wnated some trades do have tradeitis.

I believe that there was at least 1 of 3-4 players I would've loved to have on our list in 2013 for a tilt at the flag...fact is we couldn't even if we wanted.

That has nothing to do with tradeitis, it has a lot to do with the title of this thread....maybe 'mismanagement' should be added to the title of the thread.

Is there anybody from the above post who thinks that not one player traded/FA...who left would not have been desirable to add to our list in 2013?

And yet we chased Travis Cloke?

Contracts/salary cap restraints are an excuse Bondi, IMO.
If we wanted to get in a player, existing contracts can be altered.
If the 2011 premiers could bring in 2 players AND re-sign Travis Cloke, I'm sure we could have arranged for another player to join our list. Its a matter of making the effort to facilitate it.

Cloke?
And ...

:|

I just don't see players who have been traded of gone FA who would have genuinely helped us win the flag in 2013, or 2014 for that matter.
Especially taking into account salary or the cost of a trade.

Mick wouldn't have taken the job if he didn't think we could be successful. Let him work his magic.

Mick Malhouse has 3 years to get one: I expect that.
I'm into 2013 for a tilt....and now we need to make sure we are relatively injury free to win one.
There's no righ or wrong, as there is change and no change.
I just hope our (bad) luck with injury changes.

...and our plethora of tall timber come on (Kreuzer Hampson Warnock Mitchell Casboult McCarthy Rowe), let alone stands up (Jamison, Waite, Henderson, Laidler, White, McInnes and Walker) ...a bit longer than Quinton and Clokey along with other talls we could've enticed...let alone the most important medium sized tough nuts we need, who are maybe better than McLean Ellard Curnow Joseph.,,,maybe...who knows?...but I like a bit of change, a twist, a bit of spice: maybe injury free year will do that.

...you know its all guesswork from the outer sanctum....but we do know we need a bit of luck with injury

Collingwood made the preliminary final, and now have 3 first-round draft picks the following season. They also were able to re-sign all their young guns, sign Cloke on good money, and effectively replace Dawes with Lynch until a younger guy is ready to go.

That's list management.
