Pretty sure that was during the middle of the year in the lead up to a home and away Carlton -v- Collingwood game and it was Mario Bortolotto who gave Lou a spaghetti bath in a wheel barrow.

But Lou Richards and his muck racking ghost writer Tom Prior  printed a story in the week leading up to the 1982 Grand Final that Parkin had a signed a contract to coach Collingwood in 1983 - this was because Richards and Prior were filthy that Carlton would be winning their 14th Premiership in 1982 and would become the greatest winning premiership team in VFL history finally drawing clear of Collingwood who were sitting on 13 wins since 1958 and Essendon* who still had 12 wins.

They ran this story with no evidence to back it up purely in a vindictive effort to destabilise Carlton in the run up to the Grand Final.

There efforts proved unsuccessful.

Thanks, Ags. I only have vague memories of the event. I guess time plays tricks on your memories of things like that. I seem to remember some brief footage of it?

I still remember some of my feral mates (Pies supporters) kept saying that after teh '81 flag we would be stuck on 13 flags for years and years to come as it was cursed being No.13 (not because the 'Pies were sh*t and could win a flag since '58).

They were bloody shattered when we went straight from 12 - 14 flags in consecutive yaers (so did the Bombers as well in 84-85) - what do you expect from 'Pies numbnut supporters.

Not sure if this has been discussed elsewhere, but it's pretty cool

So that, and not the cup with dead bird on Doull's head?

Chalk and cheese to the current team.

Did anybody see the Rohan Connelly greatest Grand Final team. It was supposed to be a team of the greatest Grand Final performers. I started reading with great anticipation but stopped when the Dominator or Bruce Doull didn't even rate a mention. I think Sticks was the only Carlton player in the side.

It was the greatest Grand Final team of the AFL era, 1989-2012.

There's no need to destroy a good rant with facts now
