My key points for MM are:

Gibbs: Time to go to the midfield. Watch Pendlebury.
Lucas: If he can stand up will make a real difference. Needs to work closer to contest.
Watson: Reads play well and a great kick. Speed over 20m needs to be improved. Can easily hold down CHB and release Henderson forward.
Collins: Can fill a position we struggle. Back Pocket. Looked a natural last pre season then forgotten. Hope MM gives him a go in that role.
Bootsma: Has star written all over him. I think MM will play him straight away. Can play as a "wing" where his body strength wont be exposed. Has poise and ability to win the ball. Our Nat Fyfe.

Overall improvement and game time into the kids. McCarthy, Davies, Buckley, Dale, Mitchell, Carter, Bootsma plus picks. On our list we need to see them play.

Settled back 6. Absolutely VITAL! for me: collins jamison laidler mcinnes/duigan watson okeefe.

Lot of positives and will be interesting to see. I'm excited

Interesting assessment psych and well done.
May I just add or deduct form the lads above?

Gibbs: Mid almost a certainty, but I'd sooner see him working center and forward of centre than to confuse him by sending him back again.
Looking forward to seeing him being chased than having to do the tagging.

Lucas: Rather than getting involved closer to the contest, Lucas makes for the better receiver.
Someone mentioned that Malthouse may work him into the Thomas type role and that just sits very favourably with me.
Such a good one touch player at his best, it may serve for him not to get beaten up but apply his skills elsewhere.

Watson: Confidence is key with this fellow. Body isn't quite right yet and believe it or not he's faster than what has been on display at times.
Brain though must engage quicker and he'll benefit from having time spent on his pitfalls.

Collins: Was told he'd be played in the back-line last year but that didn't quite materialize.
Have no idea what Malthouse has in store for him but as for several others, the confidence needs bolstering.

Bootsma: Just had to endorse your findings here. This kid blew me away the first day I saw him. Didn't expect the speed and skill-set to have been so far away from the action and for him to have fallen into our lap at #22.
Again a stern voice and a vote of confidence may take this kid a long way. Really looking forward to his future and running the flanks looks like his ultimate position.

Settled back 6? Absolute key for any team and we mixed and matched so much this year, that any cohesion was nigh on impossible.
Will reserve a prayer for this to happen next year and the rest will take care of itself.

That's a slow back 6

Not really. Look at this year's two Grand Finalists. It's about the ability to work together and use the ball well and create. Guys like Laidler, Watson, McInness, OKeefe are good ball users and can kick over the zone. Midfielders will get back and assist with run and carry. Run will come from Yarran, Simpson, Judd etc dropping back to assist.

I wouldn't have thought he has the pace.
If he has, then wonderful.

Put simply if he can implement the defensive mindset which has been the hallmark of his coaching and we have a good run with injuries then sky's the limit

Not an easy position to fill and we have to look within. I have mentioned Collins because I saw him play the role and was very impressed. He is tough and reads the ball coming in very well. Also, created a lot of offence in that role. It's also hard to see him playing small fwd with Betts, Garlett, Robbo, Armfield ahead of him.

IMO it would be just good to see him have a go at it. Another option I believe is Ellard. Who knows, a lot of players have turned their careers around by finding their niche.

I've never really understood the knocks or at least questions on Ellard.

Every time I see him play he does the job he's asked to do.

If he was given 22 full games in a row I don't have too much doubt he'd be in our best 22 by the end of it.

For some reason he gets lumped in with Joseph/Russell/etc as having poor disposal but he's well in front of those guys and a pretty good kick for goal when he's been thrown forward.

Strikes me as the sort of player we don't put serious development into and then watch flourishing at another club when given a level of opportunity and trust.

I reckon he's held in higher regard than those two. He's certainly a fave of mine.

The coaching staff appear to rate him and he's a terrific example of perseverance.

Unfortunately he's a little undersized, a little slow, not a booming kick and can be a little wasteful. He has no trouble finding it but some players are destined to be fringe or role players and Davey may end up being one of those.

I agree. I think he is a fantastic player. He is tough, actually fairly quick, and finds the ball. Better than Curnow IMO. I hope he gets a fair run. No one on our list has worked harder. Gone from FP to midfielder since arriving and will get better.

Lachie Henderson

Groins stuffed his season. Is probably a better defender than a forward where he can run straight at the ball. Future key defender. Have a bit of time for this bloke. He speaks well. Could be a future leader.

Agree re` leadership. I think we should go with him or Laidler as Captain next year, injuries permitting. MM might see similarities with Maxwell and would give us a fresh start feel.
Accurate assessment of our list this year Keogh.

Keough,

Great analysis. Mick needs 3 years to rebuild and retrain the list. Why are we so concerned about kpforwards when we are short kpbacks. And midfielders? Your analysis says jack watts would be a good addition if he could play centre half back. Develop Watson, move Henderson forward. Jamison I would trade
