If you listen to him I dont think he knows himself
He appears to be living in a different world to me and how anyone can say Mick is going to do this or that is beyond me because he gives the impression he is making it up as he goes along

I agree........ He appears to be living in a different world to you.

So, are you saying that Jobe Watson is a drug addict and will suffer a total meltdown, because, like Ben Cousins, he won a Brownlow?

When my generation went to High School, we studied clear thinking. It was all about avoiding logical fallacies similar to the one you made here.

I was just illustrating the floored evidence that was put before us in relation to why MM is so great, high school was along time ago for both of us, I doubt clear thinking formed a significant part of your studies.

What we can cling to is the belief that he gets the best out of ordinary players, hard to dispute that.

I have the utmost faith in Mick and all that, but I have to admit that it terrifies me a little if he thinks our list is fine as it is :(

Hard to see us being top 8 in 2013. A hell of a lot of things (read injuries) will have to go right for us to jump over a bunch of teams that are currently ahead of us. Just a couple of key players going down will be enough to see us miss finals action again I reckon.

..i doubt that is really what he thinks, in fact i think every coach would feel their list could be improved.. ..more likely he feels that our list can be used well enough, without 'selling the farm' for just average players..

This (among other factors) is a big reason why we're a fair way off being a contender.

Completely agree. Quite depressing I reckon.
Have we addressed the issue of depth when players have accidents and injuries?
Have we somehow fast tracked our young players, so they'll have the stamina and endurance for a full season?
Is Simon White now a superstar?

If we can't afford to trade in some decent back ups, how can we hope to be a chance for Top 4?
Where exactly is this club at?
All I've heard is spin. Spin from MM devotees and Andy M. Do we believe that the list is fine as is?
It is, if no one gets injured. The coach can't fix lack of depth.
This comes with the usual 'hope I'm wrong' caveat.

There's just too big a gap at the moment from the top bunch to the inexperienced bunch.

Perhaps we need to ride out 2013 and get as much experience into players like Watson, Bootsma, McCarthy, Lucas etc?

Part of the problem is the amount of fringe and depth players who still have contracts leaving us so little room to move. :hitcomputer:
That and the big dollars paid to our better players taking such a toll on our salary cap. May take a year or two to sort out our list and cap.
But if something comes along in the next few weeks then I'm sure we will find a way.
May depend if a club is left short of a ruckman. 206 for a pick would provide some salary cap relief - and give us something else to look fwd to in the draft.

So the improvement will have to come from whatever wonders magical Mick can work on the list and the natural progression of young players such as Bell and Co. Can Lucas get the confidence and mongrel to be the midfielder he should be? Will Casboult come on? Can Walker and Jeffy recapture their 2011 form? Having Waite, Hammer, Laidler, Hendo, 206 and Jamison play most of the season would be like having a few recruits.

Pick 11 might come in and make an impact.

Possibly, maybe, hopefully ...

Still, there are plenty of players I'm glad we have/are missing out on. None of them had me genuinely excited given the price we would have to pay.
With all the talk from Mick, Swan and McKay, imagine the carnage to the list if Cloke had come :yikes:

Pick 4 for Dawes and Wellingham :screwy:

Pick 17 (or 18) for Wellinghan :screwy:

Sometimes it's better to watch from the sidelines.

Still a few weeks to go though ...

Call me Ye of Little Faith, but I think our recruiting, player development and list management has been very much off the pace for a decade or more, and a change of coach isn't going to make up for that.

But if MM's appointment is an indication of things to come, or actually a catalyst for more changes, then we'll improve markedly.

We're a club that got 33 and 67 for Sam Jacobs. Collingwood is a club that gets 17 for Sharrod Wellingham. An isolated example, but one that I think is illustrative of where we've been.

We had more than a few injured in 2011, and we were 1 kick off a prelim.
Meanwhile clubs like Norf, Adelaide, Sydney and Hawthorn had very few injuries in 2012 (not to mention soft draws).
If we get a decent run (which is what it takes for any team) we will challenge.

A slight improvement in coaching should win us 5 more games (Scum, Saints x 2, Port, Suns) regardless.

Is that a best case scenario? The two losses to Port and GC were cancelled out by the two unexpected victories over Collingwood. Reckon we'll beat Collingwood twice again next year? We'll have to to get the five extra wins (not that we're all that crash hot against the Saints either).
