I'm doubly [REDACTED] up the arse as they want me to pay more for my "premium" seats but only my Etihad ones are premium. My MCG ones are average.

If they move me at the G then maybe I'll cough up.

This was sent to the club by a friend of mine today

As a 20 year member, holding the same reserved seats with a group of friends for some time now, I am disgusted at the latest price hike with respect to our Gold reserved seats.

It has been pathetically disguised as a "reclassification" to Captains Club but is clearly just a veiled attempt to fleece more money out of members.

$150 increase over prior year! That is an outrage. The same seats we have had for so many years go from $350 odd to now $500 odd!

They are the same seats as last year. Are they all of a sudden gold plated? Do they come with free food and drinks now? Is there a personal TV with each seat? Do we get a massage form the club physios? Of course not.

The only plausible explanation for this is that the club has over committed by sacking Ratten and his assistants and replacing with Malthouse and others.

If this is "the price of success" then i think you will find that many members will not be renewing this year.

Is this how you treat long term loyal members who have been with you through thick and thin?

We deserve more than this.

We deserve more than a letter telling is if we want to retain our long term seats that we have to upgrade to a higher class of membership.

Forget I AM CARLTON.

I AM DISGUSTED!

I AM OUTRAGED!

I AM SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING NOT JOINING IN 2013!

I AM EXPECTING MORE.

Sensitive response. You'd score a job with the membership dept easily.

I just don't understand.
Non premium members are sitting in the premium area where members who pay the premium price sit.
There is extra demand for those premium seats.
Club can't meet the extra demand area as non premium members are sitting in the premium area.
The Club asks non premium members to pay the same amount for their premium seats as those around them.
Anger.
I must be missing something.

So the idea I am missing is: That if I am a member of a Club I should be rewarded for joining up every year.
I have always thought of membership as cheaper entry to the ground, access to finals tickets and supporting the Club financially.
Apologies for my lack of understanding of this matter.

you had us all at "I just don't understand"

do you understand that if someone is paying 'x' for a certain service then gets told to pay 'y' for the same service (at a significant unjustifiable increase) then questions can be asked?

So because you have had your membership longer, you should get a better seat than someone who pays more?

The key here is communication.
The club is well within their rights to re-zone seats.
If they are premium, then unfortunately you have to pay premium.
But this should have been better communicated, weeks or months in advance and clear and reasonable alternatives given.
It sucks and I'd be pissed if it was me, but I don't think it's unreasonable behaviour.

I reckon they should have been offered a 50% reduction as incentive for the changeover.
A nicely worded letter, thanking them, and encouraging their continual commitment would have perhaps gone down a lot better.

You could say any area is a premium section, and up the fees.
Potentially you could insert another level above CC, and say we are all sitting in the new premium level now, and will need to pay an xtra $1,000 a year. I understand why they are upset. It's not that difficult. Be inclusive. As a club, we are far from that.

'Members' in today's footy climate are nothing more than extra streams of revenue. They recognise that passion plays a huge part in buying a membership, so why not raise the prices by more and exploit the hell out of their loyalty? It's sad, but true. We are nothing more than cash cows to the footy club.

While this is true, it desnt have to be that way.

Other clubs manage to make their members feel valued.

People will understand if the communication is good and he club has built up some goodwill.

Its not always about wanting to be rewarded for being a member, its more about not feeling that your money and membership and being taken for granted.

Not sure what the fuss is.

I have went from silver, gold and captains club.
You pay for what you get. You want good seats, you pay for it. Pretty much works same way at concerts etc.

I remember a 660ml coke bottle costing about $2.20-50 or something years ago, now they are $3.80 or $4.40 at MCG/Etihad. Costs go up and if people pay for the best membership, you should get the best seats in the house.

More demand for premium seating requires rezoning unfortunately, but has to happen. Nothing about club loyalty or treating members poorly. It is actually a positive that the club has to rezone due to demand.

My Long Distance membership looks like it'll cost $130 minimum, and I never got a single game out of it, had to pay for reserved tickets for every game I saw in Queensland as the membership doesn't cover games outside Melbourne and the games I did see in Melbourne were fully ticketed so my membership didn't cover them either. Probably paid upwards of a full season membership, for less than a quarter of the games. Interstate supporters not only get minimal interaction with the Club, we also see a fraction of the games and get raped for the privelege. Vic supporters forget how good they have it, bang for buck wise.
