Synbad, one would assume Geelong have much more to offer than we do for Caddy.

Any other players in the mix, other than ones seeking retirement homes.

Caddy... depends what Geelong think they wanna give up... Wells would see the world different to most recruiters and if he believes they will get something great... im sure they will back him in.
At this point i hear only Lynch and Caddy being in the mix.. (we lost the Irishman)....im sure Mick will find someone else from left field... someone he thinks he can place into a role..

You have to respect the Swannies. I thought they were bloody fantastic today with not a lot of help from the umps. I would love to see a Carlton team play with that never say die attitude. Hope MM can do it.

Mots theyre a champion team.

And they do so much right..... we can learn alot from the Swannies as an organisation.
Recruiting
drafting
developing

And where was this team 3 or 4 years ago?

Its the good teams that do things right that win the flags.. the rest of the teams.. make up the numbers.

Any team that can develop Mitch Morton into a premiership player is doing a lot of things right.

Sinners, we could learn a lot from the way they run their club both on and off field. To do so we would have to change our old fashioned thinking. I thought Mitch Morton's comments after the game gave an indication of what is expected from you as a player. We need a real leadership group, not a make believe one.

Club culture... we have it... but its not a healthy one for winning flags....in fact it guarantees the opposite...

Carlton are front runners we have a team full of them . But when it gets tough they curl up and die
They were really improving in 2011 they lost that final to the WC and everyone thought that all we had to do was get our players on the park and everything would just fall into place

Swans showed it takes hard wirk from everyone to win something . We have to many not prepared to work hard enough

Mick needs to change that and it isnt going to be easy

What an admirable club Sydney is. They knocked off the Hawks, and I will be forever grateful.

Just on culture, I was told today by a friend of Tom Scully's family that he left Melbourne because he was bullied at Melbourne by many of his senior teammates. Scully is a teetotaller and didn't have a girlfriend, so he was known as "Poof" by those teammates. The environment was toxic at Melbourne.

So yeah, culture matters.

My son went to school with Tom and your right he didn't drink and didn't have a girlfriend at the time because all he wanted from a very young age was to play footy. He made those sacrifices to be the best that he could be. If thats what happened at Melbourne and I am not disbelieving what your saying aramari in any way its no wonder he left. I know he didn't want to get drafted by Melbourne. You can see why. He supported the Tigers, poor buggar. Sorry I got off the thread there. As Sinners and Aramari both said, culture is important, the right culture that is.

We played Sydney in a final 2 years ago.... they win a flag this year, we fall to 10th....

On this basis alone, Sydney as a Club runs better than ours. For example, Kinnear Beatson is one of the best recruiters in the AFL.....

In a bad work culture, an ambitious, hard-working cleanskin makes the jaded slack-arses look bad.

They might say "stop working so quickly, you're making us look bad". Eventually they'll ostracise him in an attempt to shore up their position and justify their own poor performance. Some good guys leave, others stay but don't flourish or end up doing "just enough"

Reminds me of the story of Fev giving a young player shit for doing extra work in the gym a few years ago.

Malthouse mentioned on 3AW today that he has spoken to Lynch and expects him to go to either Coll or Melb as we can't offer as much.

I'm staggered that we can't even match Collingwood's offer. Unless we've already allocated a decent chunk for someone else, that's pretty amazing.

Yep.

We apparently could offer Cloke a very significant deal yet can't do anything for Lynch? Doesn't add up for mine.

Wonder what is going on?

"can't" might be code for "won't"
or "have better things to spend our money on"

I'm sure he's not going to completely throw away our entire trading strategy in one radio interview for all of Melbourne to hear.
