for what its worth Wellingham is one of the nicest, most laid-back, easy to approach and happy to give you the time of day, sort of blokes, Ive ever met (who also happens to be an AFL player - not sure that it helps that Buddy, in stark contrast, is an arrogant wanker) i also love how he plays football.

Anyway, I saw the magic man E.Betts at Knifepoint Shopping Centre today, had a chat, told him he was robbed of an AA spot, and that its a farce his grab Vs Bris isnt up for MOTY

then I asked 'so what do you think about the Malthouse apppointment' ................................errrrr, awkward silence.......................

no decipherable comment at all..........................no excitement either that's for sure!!

i sensed it was a discontentment re: the ousting of Ratts, rather than the appointment of MM

i just hope theyre all mature enough to realise none of this is personal........

There were rumors floating around the certain players that wanted Ratten gone, Betts was included as one of the players in this rumor. I always thought the body language between Ratts and Betts was quite good, great infact.

Good to know that rumor is bullshit. Not so great about the silence.

Thanks for the info Jack!

And I heard that McKay had a meeting with several of the senior players mid-season and the relationship with Ratten. It went something along the lines of "nice guy but no mongrel to instill aggression in the playing group".

That might be made up or not. Certainly rings true.

The playing group requires a coach to instill mongrel in them?
What are we, the Ashburton Under 10's?

If an AFL player cannot play with some aggression and intensity off his own bat, he may as well give it away now.

Every team does at times. The game is played at such high intensity these days only the elite can maintain a high level of arousal through 26 weeks.
Everyone has peaks and troughs. Even in 95 we had a couple of shockers.

To be fair to Eddie, bit hard to be excited by a coach you've probably only spoken to once or twice.

I suspect it's like having a new boss come in at work, or a new teacher at school... It's not something that's ever excited me.

Hasn't Eddie been on International Rules series with MM as coach?

He has.
I wouldn't read too much into the response though. Probably not an easy question to answer, especially without experiencing Mick in a proper club environment.

Maybe he was thinking...

"Oh @#$%&! another one of these cauliflower that won't let me quietly go about my business during one of the few breaks I get. I wish these flowers would leave me alone and let me get a donut. @#$%&!, now I can't even buy a donut or this prick'll be plastering it all over the internet how I'm out of shape and laying into the donuts.

Ratten? Malthouse? I don't even know you from a bar of soap! As if I'm going to give up anything on what's going on with my current employer to some prick who bails me up in a shithole shopping centre and stops me from getting to the donuts. Those honourable dudes and dudette gift me 400 large to strut around in a pair of the finest spinnakers known to man and you want me to go all Today Tonight on them? You @#$%&! wastoid conehead!"
