It depends on Cloke. If we cant trade for a top quality KPP, I'd try to get one at 11.
If we can trade for a quality KPP, I'd happily use 11 on Caddy.

We dont have anything coming through that can do the job?

Good honest battlers IMO. They'll play a role but you need a bit of class as well.
If we want Caddy as well, we'll have to be a bit inventive with trades IMO.

Absolutely.

Sorry but that's ridiculous.

Why would you give up one of the best 15 midfielders in the league for the possibility that you might pick up two good players with picks 3 and 20?

I'd love to see an analysis of how often a club has nailed their first AND second round draft picks versus how many times it hasn't happened.

Murphy's a great footballer.

Picks 3 and 20 might be great footballers but based on the odds that have prevailed at every previous draft you might get one and a bit good footballers if you're lucky.

One of the ruckmen might be a chance of being traded. Not sure what else we have

I wouldnt mind seeing that. Theres a couple of good young ruckmen around we could get with a late pick to develop.

Exactly.

Murphy's a gun who got injured this year and struggled afterwards.

Last year he was one of the best handful of players in the comp.

You don't swap that for the chance at Richard Tambling and Chris Egan (or insert other not so great high draft picks) unless it's forced upon you (see C.Judd).

Wouldn't necessarily use both though. Package pick 20 in a deal for Caddy or if the deal was decent, Josh Toy.

Melbourne definitely won the Johnstone deal, and whilst Daniel Bell was a complete spud, the Woewodin deal allowed them the salary cap space to retain some other guns who were otherwise on the way out.

What we may lose over 2-3 seasons with Murphy vs. Caddy and pick 3, we may make up in gained salary cap space at the crucial time of free agency coming to the fore, whether it be by attracting a different marquee player or retaining one of our down the track.

..canna believe what i'm readin'.. ..Murphy last season was being talked as being Judd's equal, or having narrowed the gap immensely, won our B&F and cleaned up the coaches votes.. ..this season a drop in team systems saw his form drop, and then a big injury in which he was rushed back in.. ..could be our club's best player next year, and would be already if not for us getting Judd..

....anyway, to be honest i haven't seen enough of Caddy to comment on what his 'trade-in' worth might be.. ..don't think we ought to offload pick 11?, and if we trade out a ruck i'd prefer it to be Knockers..

We won't trade Murph, unsure what this mental fragility Rhino talks about with him either.

I think he can rise to an even higher level, possibly Pendelbury esque. You don't get rid of proven elite talent in the middle of their career unless they have massive issues either in or off the field or your getting something ridiculous for them.

Just a gut feel but I feel the most likely to be squeezed out of the side of the 3 ruckmen would be Warnock simply because he is the least versatile and hard working of the 3. Can't see MM being a massive fan unless he lifts his work rate.

I feel he benefited greatly last year from teams paying more attention to Judd than was necessary, and in some cases, teams not catching on that we'd modified our midfield set up to revolve around Murph until later in the year.

One of the biggest criticisms of the team this year has been its inability to cover for key players when injured, and for structures to hold up regardless. Arguably the biggest offender in this regard is Murphy - for a player of his stature and importance, he far too often relies on a chop out from Carrots, and to a lesser extent, Juddy to get his hands on it, for him to be effective as well.

Whilst I'm sure Malthouse rates him as a player, I reckon he'd have hesitation with aspects of his game that can see him play for himself, and not give the chop out to his teammates that he should. One of the bigger positives I find with MM's appointment is how unlikely it is he will base a team around a franchise player to win a flag. With Ratten, you could clearly see that this was the case with Judd, and then from midway last year, the transition to Murphy was in place also. As such, I'm less inclined to use the "We're not going to win a flag basing a team around Murphy" argument, but feel the crux of the argument being that we're no worse off toward winning a premiership by considering trading him remains.
