He was just going on about the first time we spoke to Malthouse. It was a fair enough line of questioning, I guess, it's just that Jones has a manner about him that possibly endears him to gutter trash and not many others.

Welcome Mick.

Great press conferences, I like how MM does not take a backward step to the moronic questions like from Tony Jones tried to roll MM, FAIL!

Time to stick some rockets up some players backsides...

Like others, I'm not sure that Mick will make the difference or be the right guy, but a few things stood out from the Press Conference:

1. The man has presence (something that has been lacking, IMO).
2. He is comfortable in a press conference, and HE sets the agenda - not the journos.
3. He sounds half intelligent (also something that has been lacking, IMO).
4. In his first 10 minutes at the club he already started articulating his vision (and made some subtle references to the way things WON'T be from now on).

What I'm left with already is his vision. Whether or not he can coach, who knows? But given we finished, what 11th? 12th? I don't even know. And given how clearly the players spoke in Round 22, he has to be better than what we had.

I'll back him to the hilt (as others have said too), just the way I backed Pagan and then Ratten. Even when the writing was well and truly on the wall - can't help it, I'm the eternal optimist. I'll back him, and if it doesn't work, we'll deal with that then.

In our discussions with Mick over the last week it is obvious the 12 months he has been involved in the media has reinvigorated his desire to coach and has provided him with a further insight into football in 2012 through his role as a media commentator.

The optimist/dreamer in me is kinda hoping the outside looking in view MM has had of football this year will give him a fresh perspective on the game.

Fingers crossed!

I don't know if this is going to work, but I'm definitely looking forward to swapping Ratten's post-game stats for Mick's post-game aphorisms.

Geez the 'optimists' in this thread are damning Mick with faint praise.

Go Mick!
Put a rocket up the players' asses!
Push them further than they've been pushed before - don't let them coast !

Bring back the SWAGGER!

Go blues!!

That's it in a nutshell. First time in a decade I seriously believe we are a genuine, serious football club again.

The swagger is back! :smoking:

Micky doesn't want them standing behind him.

He wants them beside him.

So, side by side they'll stick together.....?

I'm sure there's a little song about that but can't put my finger on it.

It will come to me.

I am just relieved this saga and the negativity is finished and we can get some excitement out of off-season - who are we going to draft, trade, poach etc. Looking forward to hearing reports about structure changes etc. Can not wait until next season. So many years without real success - now I can at least hope. I might just be fooling myself..... but at least I can be optimistic for a while.

"Mick: Am indebted already to Stephen, Greg and the board for the opportunity."

Dont know about the Mick being indebted to us part - as I understand it for a $3million over 3 years it sounds like its the other way around to me.

But if it delivers Premiership 17 (and maybe 18 & 19) I am all for it.
