Have known the bloke for many years now and I think you are mistaken. In front of and behind the scenes the bloke is quality in a difficult position. Has always acted professionally and basically followed instructions. To fault him is to fault those who instruct him. Define "out of his depth" in this context

The Juddy... pressure point situation... bt there are a zillion of them .. hes hopeless...

dont worry.. i know him too....

terrible terrible media manager for this era of footy when things happen so fast....

a review if we had one.. would mean he would be out of a job

I don't know too many GM's, Communications who 'follow instruction'. What do any current board members or CEO know about Communications?? IC makes recommendations and drives the Comms Strategy. He is responsible for it. The buck stops with him. It's now one of the most important jobs in a professional sporting environment, and unfortunately (for the clubs sake) he isn't up to it. Synbad is right... If a proper review was done he'd be demoted. I considered IC to be a very good media manager, and I think that's what he should have remained. You don't promote someone in an organisation just because they've been there a long time.

In 2012, having board members and/or a CEO who are au fait with Branding & Communications is as important as having some finance and legal expertise on the board.

Have a few friends who have graduated from RMIT's Applied Comms and PR courses in the past few years. Apparently Ian Coutts turns up quite often to give a lecture.

They reckon he has no idea what he's on about and just very good at memorizing slabs of text.

That's the day he lost me.
Fancy letting Judd speak to the media after no sleep and still being intoxicated.
Judd was pissed and trying to be a smart rrrrs.
Couts' job was to protect Judd from himself.
Wouldn't have happened anywhere else.

He's a man for 2000

In the scheme of things, it matters not. We know the club will be devastated a young man has died and that's all that matters. I'm sure they have sent their condolences to the club and family.

I honestly doubt we have. You only have to look at how our communications team have dealt with things this year.

Do I think they care in the scheme of things? Of course not. Who probably do are the parents of players on our list who'd like to know that their kids are in good hands should, god forbid, a situation like that ever occur to them.

Or that we don't just do the bare minimum. That's not the Carlton way. It's nice reading the memoirs of old champions who fondly recall when they retired, Carlton would be the first club to send them a telegram of congratulations, accompanied by a pair of cufflinks or a set of wine glasses.

Trying to take my personal thoughts of someone I knew passing away out of it - it just irks me that the club I support didn't so much as pay lip service.

Perhaps he did. What Rhino is specifically referring to is the use of social media to convey your condolences on behalf of everyone at the club...players, staff, supporters. On holiday perhaps?

Since when has social media become the standard or appropraite channel to convey your condolences?
I think some posters here are clutching at straws having a go at the club for not using facebook, twitter or any other form of instant media to convey their condolences

Since no-one really uses the classifieds/obituaries section of the paper any more? The 14 other clubs that had something up on their social media page straight away.

In fairness - the message that was put up on the FB page today was well written, and our social media section has been a shining light this season amongst ordinary off field perforamnces left, right and centre. Was just late, and stuck out when other clubs took the necessary steps to appear compassionate and diligent.

It is, unfortunately, endemic of how we fare against other clubs. Collingwood have made him out to be a legend of the club, and are all over today's papers - you'd think he was still there rather than Port Adelaide. He played a dozen games for them, and they hung him out to dry for Dayne Beams a couple of years ago. They'll probably end up turning an otherwise meaningless game against Port Adelaide into a blockbuster as well.

Have we handled the Rowe illness well? So far so good. Not outstandingly, compared to Essendon* with Ramanausakas, and gut feeling tells me we'll delist him. Rerookie or not. The passing of Richard Pratt? Minimal, don't think it showed the respect it deserved of what he did for the club - not sure whether that was at the request of the family or not.

We could improve. It's hard to disagree with that.

In all seriousness - for Sporting organisations - probably 2010. Standard and appropriate.

Terrific to see the advances we've made in communicating to our own supporters through social media. Excellent job.

BUT, it seems we still haven't got the will to embrace the mainstream media or the ability/smarts to use the msm to our advantage. We are missing an opportunity in this area bigtime.
