Why don't you write to him jim? 'Cause chances are - he won't have seen your heartfelt message. I'm not sure why people think JR's career 'didn't work out for him'...it did work out for him! He represented Carlton for 8 years. He is/was one of the luckiest men in the land!

If he has left one indelible impression on me, it's his resolve to overcome his elbow injury. I know how serious that was, and it would have ended the careers of many tennis players (in fact it has), so to come back and play was admirable. Would have made a good captain of the Northern Blues - ala David Glascott in 1990.

No real surprises there. Tried his guts out at all times, of that there is little doubt, but it just seems his scope of improvement isn't as great as what we thought it was. He sounds like he was always a quality person, and no doubt he would be the first to recognise that he was given every opportunity to succeed at this club, and would hold no ill will (I'll seriously spew if anyone thinks he was hard done by opportunity-wise at CFC). As Brad said, if nothing else his name shares the same locker as Big Nick and Diesel forever more. Good luck to him. Maybe he'll go wherever Ratts ends up?

On a selfish note though, is there any way TC could be acknowledged by JR in some way for their sponsorship? Even if just a written statement ghost-written by Luca? This is more a comms' criticism than on Jordan himself, but I've not seen any real return on TCer's giving their hard-earned, even in a ceremonial sense.

correct again kenny...

Yeah I second that!

Apart from one season, never really looked like a footballer and too often let his emmotions get the better of him!

Hope it works out for him at another club, however it's the best thing for both parties.
Saves us about $300k a year too!!!

When at his best was very good, shame it went downhill afterwards, truly hope he gets picked up. One of the better media performers when given the chance also.

Not sure this is the time for some to be kicking him.

Having said that, when's the Paul Bower announcement?

Molly1 has already announced that Bower, Thornton and Kerr have been told they are no longer required.
No officials announced yet.

A bit harsh here -last couple of seasons wasnt so good but was our best player in the elmination final against Sydney and had a great period 2009-2010 - good effort to get to 100 games- a ripper game - provided we get compensation for him more than happy - may have got more chances than others because club wanted to protect itself from criticism that made a mistake with early draft pick - thought he was a very good leader when I saw him at training and in practice matches

In my view if we get over 100 games from him and get compensation on the way out for him leaving cant think club has done badly in the circumstances

Will be a difficult one for AFL to determine his value - no 9 pick -100 games - only 25 - hopefully a second rounder

Good luck Jordan thanks for the memories

Fourth rounder. That he was taken top 10 won't come into the equation.

Had the privaledge of sitting with him st this years sponsorship dinner. Genuinely loves the Blues. Was watching last years highlights a number of times, told me which games meant a lot, really enjoyed the early season win against St Kilda where Tex kicked the winning goal.

I think he knew the writing was on the wall going into this season. Was proud to have his name on he locker with some great names and I told him no one can ever take that away from him.

 :thanks:
I'll always remember that purple patch where JR was playing really good footy.

It's not unexpected, but it is very disappointing.
Showed how good he could be in '09 and '10, but injuries and perhaps confidence issues have stopped him getting back to that level.
I'm sure he'll be a good player at another club.
Wish him the best of luck.

Liked Russell but it doesn't always work out for everyone.

Sad in a way because I thought he was capable of being a solid defender but for whatever reason that just won't be the case.

I remember a ripper game he played against Collingwood. Dominated.

Not massively surprised. Always admired Russell for his ability to make a mistake, and put it immediately behind him determined to make up for it.

Indicates someone who takes resonsibility for their actions.

Unfortunately for him, the relationship became untenable, and it was time to move on. All the best Rusty. A bit of competition for spots is the main reason why he has had to go, which is dissapointing.

Sorry I should have clarified.

A bit of healthy competition got him pushed out of the side very quickly which is dissapointing, as he is arguably more talented but less consistent. The dissapointing aspect is that it killed off his career with Rusty only playing a handfull of good games after their arrival.

Yes, he did try to make up for his mistakes, which is great,

... But he made so many of them !

One good season IMO.

Best of luck

Best of luck Jordan.

Big highlight for me that late goal he kicked against Adelaide.. last year I think?? A boomer from 50 out on the run which pretty much sealed the game.

Seeing him play good footy those couple of years was fantastic considering his early struggles for confidence. Shame he couldn't continue on that trajectory.

I was in the minority of posters and fans who was more than happy for Russell to continue getting games earlier in his career when he was a real confidence player who needed his coach and peers to have confidence in him. So it was a really good to see him somewhat repay the faith with his purple patch.

Guess I should have expected this, don't think it's a great loss to us though. Goodluck to him I say.
