He'd get us one in the late 20s if he passes a physical

There are plenty of players who are looking at getting the chop and we all know who they are.

I think if the Club wants to be ruthless with the player list they should look to offer up Gibbs or Yarran as trade bait. Realistically, they play the same role albeit with slightly different styles. Yarran can run, hit targets up the ground and also kick goals on the run. Gibbs reads the play well off the HB line, can spot up targets and can also take marks (including F50 and kick goals).

I think they will both bring in excellent players in a trade and that player may fill a hole somewhere for Carlton. At the moment, both of them are doing the same thing.

Having said that, if one of the two moves into the midfield for the majority of their game time next year (and either could do it) then I would retain them both.

Other than those two, the only real trade options I see are Walker (too many forwards if Mitchell and Casboult regularly play in the future) and one of the ruckman. These players are also worth something on the trade table and would correct what I think is an imbalanced list in the future.

Yarran is like neon Leon mm will not get rid of him in a pink fit

I might actually agree with you there. I'm thinking a Richmond or Hawthorn would be interested.
Might also ask what does David Ellard have to make it? I don't rate him all that highly.

Surely Warnock is trade bait.

Kreuzer is our #1 ruckman and Megan Gale is too valuable (& I suppose Hampson can play).

I'd foresee Warnock departing for a pick(s) to make way for $$$'s to pay for Cloke.

Ah yes. Think so too.
Still don't see why we went for him at that trade tbh. Can take some consolation we have at least drawn square with Freo in that one...atm anyway.

Get rid of Thornton, Russell, Bower, Curnow, Joseph, Rowe(rookie), Kerr, possibly Scotland.

Trade Hampson or Warnock for young gun or early draft pick.

Maybe get something for Russell?

Like to see an injection of 7-8 good young players onto list with priority on disposal, speed and decision making.

Hopefully a very good free agent as well.

Scotland stays. Stupid to let leadership go when you're void of it. Particularly when the bloke should finish top 3 in the B&F...without having a bonus clause in his contract.

Scotland will get another year.

How can you delist Rowe when he hasnt even been given a chance.

Scotland is 32-33, not a fan of MM and has other issues to deal with. That why I said possibly.

As for Rowe, he may need some time to get fully well and may ge able to go back to rookie list. Not suggesting cutting him at all.

As for giving him a chance has Mitchell or McCarthy had a fair chance either? They are a lot younger as well.

General agreeance that Robbo is a "trade high" investment. We should learn the mistakes of how we handled Fraser Brown's later years, and traded off before his style turns him into a vegetable.

I reckon he's at the peak of his abilities right now, and unlikely to improve. Possibility that in due course that Bell takes his spot in the side. He has currency, and could see it go very quickly.

Murphy I couldn't get rid of quick enough given that he not only has currency, but is probably the only one on our list that clubs would pay overs for.

Both moot points, not gonna happen. Surely you could come up with something realistic, surely?

Aware of that - I'm arguing on the basis of what I feel should happen though.

But hey, going by your logic - yay, let's have 20 pages of "Russell, Thornton, Bower, Kerr"...

It would read something like that wouldn't it. :P

FWIW (and after the FA period):

Delist (senior): Davies, White, Kerr*
Delist (rookie): Carter, Heyne, Bray
Offer for trade, if not delist: Joseph

Find a new home if possible: Ellard
Offer for trade, considering re-signing: Russell, Bower, Thornton, Duigan
Elevate: Casboult, Tuohy

* - Denotes rookie list opportunity

===========================================================

Just to clarify as to where I think the club are at in their assessments. I'm really wobbly on Levi and Ellard myself, I just think the positives don't outweigh the negatives enough myself. Levi probably has some upside though, whereas Ellard does not.

Would like to see us re-rookie Kerr for a year, just to see if he'll take that one final chance after what seems to have been a horror year for him following one of promise. Annoyed that Carter hasn't taken his chance, because if Joseph can get a game for us as a back pocket, Carter should have been a shoe-in.

We need fives names currently on the senior list to depart to meet the minimum requirements, but I suspect we'll go with six.

Warnock or Hampson are the obvious ones who would attract signficant interest. I dont think our list would suffer at all by losing either one of them (but not both). We'd definitely get a net gain if we managed a trade for say a Caddy or someone similar.

Rhino's lateral thinking about "trading high" for Robbo or Murphy is very interesting and clever but too radical for me.

But we cant trade the mad dog mongoloid (Essendon* parlance) if he's going to be our next cult hero captain  Now THAT would be a marketing campaign.

Get the strong impression that we are really in the market for a number of players. I think there will be a fair turnover of players and MM will want to bring in some ready made players and SR will want some talented kids. I can see 10-12 changes to the list.

We need to get rid of the average players that we have persisted with over the past few years.

Possible outs: Thornton, Russell, Bower, Curnow, Joseph, Kerr, Rowe (rookie), Davies (rookie), Ellard, Carter, Heyne, Scotland, Collins.

We could easily trade a ruckman & Garlett. Maybe get something for Russell.

If we can add guys like Cloke/White/McKernan, Cook, Gysberts, Salopek, Caddy, Toy onto our current list plus 5-6 kids I believe that would be a great outcome.

Got nothing to do with a poor season. Its about improving the list. He have a gun small forward and a heap of mids that can fill the role. MM is highly unlikely to play both. He will want more mids. The point is, and it was just one example, its about improving the list. Would we trade Garlett back to WA for Koby Stevens or a Crozier?

Ideally we would keep all three ruckman on the list but others want one and we could get something back we need ala Hampson for Caddy.

This is about list improvement and everyone is tradeable. Just a matter of what you get back.

At his best, he's worth 50 goals a year.

At his worst, he's still probably in our top 25.

I doubt we'd get a trade that reflects either.

Surely Scotland deserves a 1 year contract?

Also Psych, I reckon that Collins could be one of those players that MM can turn into a really good player. Kicks well both sides, always presents, always looking to get in the play and is courageous. His occasional decision making and execution errors are symptomatic of a guy who doesn't believe that he belongs at the level bc his coach didn't believe in him.

I will never forget his game against Geelong. It was his best game for the club until then. What does Ratts do the following week? Make him a sub. What happens after that? Gets 25 minutes of action, doesn't set the world on fire and it's back to the seconds. Dumb man management.
