good source suggests that he was signed up last week as an assistant coach.

not really a surprise i guess, given we are likely to get MM

(source = his in-law)

Nice work LB...interesting appointment if on the money. A replacement for Riley and/or Richardson no doubt.

If true then I think those still doubting Mick's going to sign can stop doubting now.

No way you'd appoint a new assistant before your new head coach.

No way the new assistant would sign on unless he knew who the coach was.

Remember him doing mock coaching presentations before games a couple of years ago. Thought he was fricken hopeless, which is a good sign he's a decent coach.

I mentioned Laidley this morning, but had no decent sources. Might need to include a  more often, and try and gain some credibility...

One of those guys that is always talked about in the industry about being brilliant at what he does. Teaching, breaking down opposition game plans, match day tactics etc, but lacked the man management skills required to succed in the main role.

From the outside seems like a great get.

Thanks for the info LB.

That's great news. Clyde Laidlaw was a four-time premiership player with Melbourne.
Mithen was ahead of him for centreman so he became a CHF.

Hypothetically, if we had an incompetent administration that had given up all its negotiating leverage, and they wanted to recover some of it, then adding a bloke with senior coaching experience to the books who is well regarded in the industry (in some respects at least) wouldn't be the worst play. At least then we have a plan B, and Mick would know it.

And Laidley might if he's happy to work under Malthouse as an assistant. He'd know who we're negotiating with. The small opportunity to Bradbury it to a senior coaching gig would just be a bonus.
