What did you guys expect?

I expect to win a game being 15 pts up half way through the last qtr
I expect professional footballers to be able to kick 'reasonably' well
I expect senior players to actually give a @#$%&! in the last game of the season, just like it's round 1

You think the thousands of people that attended today expected to just watch the lads run around?

Glad that flower of a season is over, now to watch other teams in the finals again :banghead:

Rubbish game & a crap feeling watching our first dead rubber for a few years. Liked Walker's game, & Robo did some nice things, but meh.

Took my 10 week old along to his first game...he was only slightly less interested than me.

Just another game like way too many others over recent years. More possessions, inside fifties and scoring shots than the opposition, yet we lose.

I got home and turned the telly on with a couple of minutes left of the first quarter. Enough time before the quarter finished to see Eddie miss a leading forward with a short pass by about five metres. Armfield kick to a team mate about thirty metres away and put the ball around 10 metres over his head and Brock miss a set shot from close range, dead in front. And so the game continued. Players aren't robots, their output varies, you can't expect every shot on goal to be accurate, or every pass to hit the intended target, but so many clangers every week. So many players who appear to get the yips when shooting for goal at close range.

Thanks for the effort you've put in over the past five years Brett, you were a great player and by all reports you're a great bloke but, I'm not sorry to see you go. Good luck Mick, I suspect you'll need it.

When I saw the weather this morning I decided that the game probably would be disappointing (my gut was right again) and took the motorcycle on a fast paced run of 500KM with my club through the small winding roads of Gippsland in glorious weather. Reading this thread - I chose wisely. Bring on 2013.

It's all good though. Because we now get a pick ahead of Richmond. So a win today would've been useless.

...what?

How in fruitcake did Richmond engineer that draw, if there should be an enquiry into tanking then that should be top of the list, they have just kept themselves from dropping 2 picks down the list in the draft.

Ratts instructions were good today but the one they got confused with was kick the ball through the big sticks. That is how you get 6 points.

3 men down + Garlett. The set ups were fine. Execusion not so good. Gotta kick goals.

Malthouse will find out about all this next year and beyond and then he will get the arse or get told to stop coaching by his wife.

Would you believe club.. that i brought it up with RATTEN.. that our kicking and undisciplined acts were not AFL standard.. and he said i repeat "What do you expect ... a game with no mistakes?""
He shrugged and said these things happen...
and i said the good clubs manage these things better.....
Ultimately... his attention to detail was crap... and he deserves everything he gets ... except the 500k.....

Classy to the end Synbad! He deserves every cent of the $500k and the club deserves to have to pay every cent of it it too (which I'm sure they will).

You know, Synbad, sometimes I almost hope that we don't do so well (or at least not as well as people think we should do) next year in order to see how people like you and certain talkback callers react when we lose but Ratten is not the coach. But then I suspect that you'll still blame Ratten for everything anyway.

What will happen though is that we will make the necessary list changes, regroup and get better luck with injuries and will have a very good year, which will prove that this year was the annus horribilis in which everything that could have gone wrong went wrong. You will hail Malthouse as a genius when in all likelihood, Ratten would have achieved the same results. So how can you really lose?

I'd like to think some of our 'leaders' will be advocating goalkicking practice during our holiday period before preseason.

Expecting too much, no doubt.

It was the club who made the call on Ratts not the supporters....supporters have their opinions but at the end of the day those in charge decided Ratts was not the man to take the club to a flag....simple as that....what's important now is what happens next....the decisions from now on are crucial....

1. Effort was there.
2. Skills diminish with fatigue - we were down on rotations early in the piece and it told later on in the game. Skills also drop off with lack of continuity - you have less familiarity with team mates, their running patterns etc
3. Several players that played today were less than fit and would not be playing had other players been available

The thousands of people expected effort - for the most part, they got that. I've also no doubt that there were also thousands of people HOPING for a loss for a better draft pick.

Was surprised that St Kilda went hard at the man from the start of this game. I know it was an effective tactic earlier in the season but why bother for this dead rubber?

I thought the Blues for the most part dealt with it well, and what got us in the end was the lack of puff due to the fewer rotations and once again awful kicking for goal. Even without Judd and Yarran and a few other passengers they did well to stay in the game.

Milne looked liked he had kicked the winning goal in the grand final the way he was carrying on after the game. :screwy: Um, I think he had his chance to do that and he blew it.

Won't be suprised if a few Saints players get cited- particularly that hit on O'Keefe off the ball which looked like Montagna but I could be wrong.

And their coach Watters claim that forwards don't initiate wrestling was one of the more hiliarious things I've heard all year, particularly when the forward in question is the Tip Rat.

Pretty sure I heard how the players where going to win this for Ratts during week and how they want to send him out as a winner...... .....those soft girls wouldn't know what it meant to stand and deliver! Blame Sticks & Ratts all you like Synbad and maybe they are a little of the problem but right now, these players are a disgrace and they should never put on another Carlton jumper again. EVER.
