its to get the most out of our list so we are getting the best results we can.

its to make the players go out and be competitive every game.... and set themselves up to get a positive result every game.

youll be able to tell if he can coach when you see how the bulk of our list is coming along... and how we treat the clubs in the competitition come game day.

and he and ratts couldnt do it....

so we move on.....

some here have commented on his good working relationship with his assistants, perhaps they need to check their sources, just ask his assistants what happened to the bonus given to Mick after 2010 to 'distribute to his assistants as he sees fit'

Actually the weirdest thing about Ratts is his exit presser will be remembered more than his coaching nouse...
Im still trying to see that Carlton swagger he promised us....

Im pretty sure from now on sacked coaches will be trying to top each others pressers in the 'class stakes'.... abit like host Olympics cities try and outdo each other.

Ultimately theyre not employed for us to see how well they exit stage......

Were after results!!!....

Tough gig coaching... especially for the Blues....i think we lost sight of that when we employed him....

Hope the next guy proves abit more... or we shall take him out the back and bash him too....

17 flags.... 18.... 18.... 20..... do not stop!!! be relentless!!!

Thats what they get paid the big bucks for.....

WE'RE CARLTON...WE'VE GOT THE BEST EXIT PRESS CONFERENCES BY A COACH......@#$% THE REST

He won't top that.....no one will, least of all Malthouse. He's already making excuses (my women crying!!!) before he even takes the job.

youre right surrey... malthouse cant top ratts sacked presser...

but he will always have a better coaching record than ratts....

i think some of our people are losing the plot....

its not about personalities... its about results.

club is treading water.... thats no good....

why would i be happy cos ratts tops malthouse or not tops malthouse in what he says for getting sacked ???... which means.. he didnt do the job we want....

if malthouse wins us a premiership... and then he gets sacked i wouldnt care if he said... "Youse can all get !@#$%&... the whole lot of yuse .. you dirty stinking Carlton supporters......."

Or we never win a flag and our coach leaves in a classy manner...

You see the difference???....

were getting our shit mixed up

were barracking for brownlows... and eliminational final wins become our flags...

Ratts had a good go

not many coaches survive 5 plus seasons...
His record wasnt magnificent and these must win games we always lose... means were not taking that step.

And don't forget Synbad, we've now reached new dizzying heights......we're barracking for the most dignified exit pressers.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE people, get some flowering perspective here. Ratten is not Bambi!!

Luckiest coach in the last 50 years.
1. Virtually no apprenticeship
2. Stacks of good draft picks to work with over HALF A DECADE
3. Coach of the club he's loved for most of his life
4. $500000+ in 2013 for doing nothing.....and people like Sydney Blue think that teachers, nurses and ambos are overpaid whingers.
5. Has FAILED CONSISTENTLY to get the boys up for games that we were expected wins
6. After 5 years, nobody could articulate his game style. All we heard were stats at his pressers
7. Gets a 2 year extension only because others weren't available
8. Obsessed with Warnock over draft picks. Obsessed with McLean over draft picks. Gets rid of OHailpin over Bower
9. Has Walls and Parkin protecting him at all costs

But hey, lets see the next coach fail so that Ratts doesnt look so bad!

I have been listening to 3AW and BT is on. He interviewed MM which will be shown tonight during the game. He was asked if he thinks he will coach Carlton next year and he said that he truely believes that Matlhouse hasnt made up his mind yet. He may be wrong but if that is the case then the board has a lot of explaining to do.

Indeed. There would be 3 available experienced coaches I'd prefer over Ratten (Malthouse, Eade and Williams). Roos, obviously, but he's not available. Media spin from some quarters would have us believe that Ratten was only dumped because Malthouse was available.

But the fact is, a little over half a season into a new contract, Kernahan was ummming and ahhhhing over Ratten even seeing out his first year! This tells any sensible observer that, as far as the board was concerned, they lost faith in Ratten having the ability to take us there.

So he had to go, malthouse or no malthouse.

It's done now. Ratten has a $500k+ golden parachute... he's highly likely to step straight into a decent assistant's job (which he'll be good at, and most likely enjoy) and Carlton is free to find a better option as senior coach.

Ratts is a lucky man. Not too many people are given the opportunity he had, and get the kind of money he's been getting, and will continue to get. Can't quite fathom all the woe is ratts sentiment myself. People get the arse all the time, the only difference is they get the arse out of the public eye.

I reckon he woke up the next day after a bit of a sleep-in, went online to check out his bank statement, had a play with his new baby... maybe a cuddle with the missus... probably fielded a call from Parko about Port Adelaide... weighed up taking a low pressure 200k assistant's job... and thought "you know what, life's pretty bloody good".

Club's done the right thing. Shits me to tears that certain journo's are painting the club as villains and poor old ratts as some kind of victim. They gave a favoured son, with a pretty sketchy apprenticeship, 5+ years. And when it became clear that they had to act, they paid out his contract in full... no St Kilda 7 cents in the dollar stuff...

Interesting to read that Choco is likely headed to Richmond in a development role. I suspect this tells us that we haven't picked up the phone to him. Malthouse seems more of a lock every day.

Yes, you are probably right. Its just the negative nellie in me wondering if the club has made a major stuff up, dont have a lot of confidence in our board, not that i even know most of them are and how they got there.
Ratts will make a great assistant coach and i am sure he will have offers soon. I just feel like we have lost a quality person and cant help but feel really sad about the whole thing.

What happened? :yikes:

I think the value of an experienced coach is overrated a bit.

I'd be just as happy to give a good coach in the making, with a solid apprenticeship a go as to fall back to guy.

The only decent argument I've seen against an inexperienced coach is from The Psychologist when he says inexperienced coach with a young list is a bad combination.

We're no longer a young list. An inexperienced coach who is well respected or prepared to be tough and earn the respect of the players would be fine provided he had the right mix of assistants and support network.

A lot depends on our leadership group.

our list is young mentally and from a development perspective young

our 'leaders' are too introverted and we lack real resolve and toughness both mentally and physically

we need an experienced coach to come in and accelerate the development and corrections from the past 5 years because, yes, agewise we arent that young anymore

we dont have time to stuff around with another young, inexperienced coach - because by the time they get up to speed - it will be too late

We need someone who will stop mothering our players and get some sh*t into them - not spiteful, but playing with a bit of passion and for the jumper - sick of seeing us pushed around by the Hawks for the past 6 years and to a lesser extent the Saints (and when we lose to the bombers its generally because they did get into our heads like Rd 4 this year)

Will be interesting if we get Mathouse. We haven't had a mentally unstable coach for a long time. His volatility and temper could work or could backfire.
