So when are these new board members coming in?
End of season?
1st of Jan?

Will they get a say in who coaches?
Will they get input into the review?
Will they get input into the fitness coaches and the offseason trip?

AGM...Mid December usually. They're being briefed behind the scenes, but will not get a say in the HR of employees.

Kudos to Sticks...he was good this morning - while Greg Swann was pretty bloody average to the honest. Here's hoping Sticks can celebrate something next year in what will be his last year as President.

Sticks was terrible this morning. The comment he made that said we have to strike at a premiership i the next few years as the reason as to why we are after a premiership coach, demonstrated his lack of insight. We are getting a premiership coach because our list has holes in it and needs to be reschooled in leadership and gameplan. It is a rebuild hopefully without bottoming out but let's face it, we are 5 plus years away from really contesting

Sticks's might be a reluctant President but having been a member of the board since 1997 he certainly doesn't strike me as a reluctant Board Member.

:?: :?:

Can anyone fill me in on what a typical day for Mr Swann would entail?

During the season proper as well as pre- and post-season.

Caro is reporting that MacLure (with the backing of Wes Lofts and Bruce M) suggested to sticks mid-season that he step aside as prez. Sticks, however, is keen to hang on until 2014.

This 'reluctance' is reaching mythical proportions.

(she also reports that Harold was asked, and that MacLure was keen on him, but big H said no.)

Sigh.

Harold Mitchell was interviewed on SEN this morning, his answer is no.

Quote:
... While the Blues face scrutiny from its former director and pokies benefactor Bruce Mathieson and with long-time powerbroker Lofts also agitating from the sidelines, Maclure is believed to have thrown up Harold Mitchell's name as a candidate. Mitchell, the former advertising giant who stepped down recently as chairman of the Melbourne Rebels, said last night he had been approached but would not take the job.

Both Kernahan and Swann have come under increased scrutiny over the Blues' lack of success this year and some off-field worries, including relatively disappointing membership numbers. Swann was told by directors to lift his performance and is understood to have done so in the eyes of the board.

Kernahan said yesterday that Swann had performed admirably in recent months and that it was crucial he stayed on board now to potentially steer Malthouse through his appointment and tenure at a fourth AFL club. The view of the Carlton hierarchy is that should the Malthouse deal run smoothly, it should be completed within a fortnight. The Malthouse appointment would secure both Blues bosses for at least two years, with Kernahan forced to step down at the end of 2014 under the club's revised constitution...

I wonder what KPI's they make their assessment on. There's obviously quite a few articles in the Hun as well. The one I found most interesting is this:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/afl/more-news/massive-profits-from-pokies-to-help-blues-cover-costs-from-sacking-brett-ratten/story-e6frf9jf-1226461977230

Quote:
CARLTON says the club's bulging pokies profits will pay for the $2 million-plus in turnover costs from sacking Brett Ratten.

It seems that Bruce's pokies are the only thing that is keeping us going.

His answer may be no if he has to run against the board.
I wonder what it'd be if he was invited with full blessing.

He's not going to publicly say yes for Kernahan et al to come out and say that he's free to run at next year's election

That board would be a difficult one to run even for HM.
Why would he have his life bogged down by idiots???

He was asked if Sticks vacated the position of President and no election was required would you take it?

NO

TO be honest, we were too late. With Harold, you need to strike while the iron is hot...others have already got him onto their Boards. Carlton is reactive...not proactive in all areas of operation. And if Harold sees too many red flags, there's no way he's going to say yes. And right now...there are a lot of red flags.

We The club failed to get our their shit together. Instead, they put something on paper that looked as though everyone and everyone was on the same page and there'd be two premierships before 2015. It's farcical what has happened to our club. They couldn't even convince Harold to take on the old Laurie Kerr role (Laurie was pulling all the strings while Ian Rice was President)...I think that'd be ideal...leave Sticks in...have him rev the boys up against the Bombers, speak at President's luncheons, meet and greet sponsors, coterie groups and members...but don't have him making decisions FFS! Alas...no dice.

Interesting that Caro reporting that some stuff happened mid-season...this thread began in June....but Caro's article sounds about right. Although Wes Lofts being an 'agitator'...not sure Wes gets too involved anymore. GWS?

How effective is our official board when we have a cabal of "agitators" like Mathieson, Lofts in the background pulling strings.

Next thing you will know there will be rumours of an influential group of supporters getting together at a well know Melbourne Pub owned by a former Carlton Premiership Player agitating for change.

Not sure about Wes. I know he still talks to people and he certainly has strong opinions on individuals but I'm not sure how much of a power base he'd have left.

At a guess his greatest influence is probably over Sticks.
