We have a 59 year old man who coached for 16 consecutive years without a premiership at the 2 best resourced clubs in the AFL.
He was a balls bounce away from defeat in the 2010 GF by a team that has half the talent of Collingwood IMO.

Well BV if you are going to use that as logic for what you don't see perhaps you forgot about the 2002 grandfinal when with a team with quarter of the talent not half of Brisbane he nearly got them over the line. Take away Voss's last 15 minutes in that game and the cup was the Pies. If you want me to open your eyes even further the poor old bastard had his team peaking and playing in Grand Finals against two teams that happen to win 3 flags each in their period of dominance.
I just hope I don't have to sit through another home and away game against Hawthorn when after the first 5 minutes I know the game is over, year after year after year, or we play a team who decides to limit our run and spread and choke the friggin life out of us.

Its about premierships. Being runners up means jack shit.
Celebrating coming second or third is for St Kilda.
The history books tell us Malthouse has won 1 premiership in his last 17 years of trying. He's past it.

I not advocating MM to be coach, I have already stated that I would like the position open to all.
You say he was lucky in 2010 against a team that was half as talented, I say his was unlucky in 2002 with a team that had a quarter of the talent as his opponents. I don't have a problem with you thinking he is past it but I have a problem when it is shit logic.

Yep. Had nothing to do with ability or being the best.

One every 9?

Considering this is an 18 team comp now... where do I sign?

I have no idea if this is going to work out but if I look at the odds between this administration choosing a proven performer versus an unknown then based on my knowledge of the administration I'll take the proven performer.

Our board has shown very little in the way of innovative, visionary thinking so I don't expect them to be able to pull a rabbit out now.

Is what we have less than perfect?

Yes.

But I'll take that over a coach who couldn't beat a top 8 team bar the "traditional rivals" for five years.

Malthouse is turning me off with his constant dribble he's coming up with lately. Wife's crying, kids crying, putting his head in the noise again blah blah blah.

FFS, HTFU.

Doesn't sound like someone 100% committed, or wanting to be.....

I'm feeling it could be the biggest mistake ever.....

It's actually one in every 6. Finally got over the line in 92 and his last in 2011.

That's three in 19 years plus another three GF's.

That's 6 GF appearances in 19 years. One in every 3.

Sounds good to me.

91, 92, 94, 02, 03, 10, 11 - that's 7 in 21 years. And two of those were very ordinary teams, not long after a wooden spoon. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

Fair point. 7 GFs in 28 years...I'll still take that.

BV. Malthouse took a very average team and took them to four Grand finals and consistant finals appearences. The fact that he ran into a Brisbane Lions outfit that many consider the best of the modern era and built off the back of a merger and first round draft picks is something that many are choosing to ignore. Then he had to rebuild that team and took it to ultimate success despite its obvious deficencies. Malthouse has a point to prove and if he wins a Premiership with us then more power to him.

Note this should be no way construed as a bagging of Ratts in any form. I respect what he did and I hope he gets antoher senior coaching gig.

No worries. I've heard from 3 of Malthouses ex assistants that the game has passed him by. Plus McGuire thinks his time is up as well.

Yet you know it was because Eddie loves Bucks.

His two Collingwood sides of a decade ago were ordinary and I think he did very very well to get there.

I don't reckon anyone would consider the Pies list since '09 till today to be ordinary.

Doc Doc Doc. Time to admit to your obsession regarding Tammy Roos.

Or is that just American women in general?

Tammi is a great lady, but she's not my obsession...nor is Paul Roos - but he is Bruce Mathiesons...and Bruce can up the ante on anything he wants. I've seen it first hand. I doubt he'll be successful because of the aforementioned lady...but he'll try.

I heard it too in 1981 when Parkin was appointed over club favourite Percy Jones who finished on top after the H&A.

Worked out okay?
