We're getting a new big name jumper sponsor if we sign Malthouse.

Clarkson arrived at Hawthorn and turned the culture around...dropped Luke Hodge in his first year there after Hodge got out on the turps for his 21st. Don't have to be an experienced to coach to show some authority/crack down on poor leadership.

It's true, you don't. But not many first time coaches would be able to do that, and it would be impossible to know beforehand if they could. Whereas with an experienced coach who has done it before, well, they've done it before, so you know they can.

One thing about Malthouse if he is our next coach, he will change things significantly, and the Club will be better for it. Whether that translates to a Premiership, who knows.

Given where we're at? We're not exactly Starting from nowhere, we're poised for a shot at the title. Your not gonna sack the coach then try and find someone?

We have a 59 year old man who coached for 16 consecutive years without a premiership at the 2 best resourced clubs in the AFL.
He was a balls bounce away from defeat in the 2010 GF by a team that has half the talent of Collingwood IMO.

Well BV if you are going to use that as logic for what you don't see perhaps you forgot about the 2002 grandfinal when with a team with quarter of the talent not half of Brisbane he nearly got them over the line. Take away Voss's last 15 minutes in that game and the cup was the Pies. If you want me to open your eyes even further the poor old bastard had his team peaking and playing in Grand Finals against two teams that happen to win 3 flags each in their period of dominance.
I just hope I don't have to sit through another home and away game against Hawthorn when after the first 5 minutes I know the game is over, year after year after year, or we play a team who decides to limit our run and spread and choke the friggin life out of us.

Ah yes Woof, but then lets not forget the 2003 GF. Same teams. Collingwood had already beaten Brisbane early in the finals to get direct passage to the PF. There they monstered Port Adelaide to get to the GF. Brisbane got there too, but played an extra final and famously had to use 17 vials of pain killers to get their players on the park for GF. They thrashed Collingwood that day because the filth were scared and kept taking their eyes of the ball.

I'm not advocating Malthouse. I would prefer the club opened it up to everyone but that is not going to happen.
My point is that if Mick was lucky in 2010 then he was equally unlucky in 2002. I don't even need to bring up that Brisbane had an extra 600k in its salary cap compared to other clubs during that era.

Ratten decision changes nothing
Quote:
MICK Malthouse has maintained this morning he has made no decision about his coaching future despite Carlton's announcement of the sacking of Brett Ratten as senior coach.

Malthouse, speaking on 3AW, said he would not make any decision about potentially taking on the Carlton coaching job until he had completed his commitments with the radio station and Channel 7, and said pressure on his family would play a major part of his decision.

Malthouse said he had arrived home from a business trip to Perth yesterday to find his wife Nanette in tears over the latest batch of reporting on her husband.

"I'm up in the air about returning to the coaching field," Malthouse said. "There was no vacancy, now there is, there's two, one in Adelaide and one in Melbourne.

"Whether I throw my hat in there ... this is the honest thing I'm telling you ... do I really want to put my head in the noose? Because that's what you do. You don't coach nine-to-five. It's all absorbing, and these things I've got to look at and certainly discuss with my family."

About Mick not wanting to be the messiah...

The channels have been open for a long while now regardless of what anyone's been saying.

Unless Roos pops his head up tomorrow and says he's keen the job is Mick's.

Fair enough. He was a bit unlucky to lose the prelim in 2007 too. Like Geelong they would've smashed Port in the GF.
